Predict the story for the DLC campaign
>>
the spy that contacts you from the lighthouse mission needs you and the rest of joker team to stop a giant flying bipedal mecha that is on the way to destroy farbanti to prevent osea, erusea and yuktobania from chimping out again

rex has to blast a massive hole in it's ass to destroy the nuclear core and escape through it's mouth but not before defeating the ace mercs who are totally not hired by not belka/grunder industries/general resource

also sprinkle in tons of ace combat 3 references.

Probably involves the princess and La Chantuse from Mission 16 when she asks you to help her and the rest of the space elevator refugees out. I felt they were out of place in 8's campaign and maybe they were a potential lead into a future DLC storyline.

>>749180541
I mean they weren't really, the space elevator is the big easy gateway to space. The sotoans needed it to put their satellites in orbit after you nab Comona back.

debra wilson gets kidnapped by belkans and you must rescue her
the penultimate mission will have you piloting a space capable experimental fighter to de-orbit a space station that you'll have to shoot up next mission while it's falling out of the sky
it ends with debra jumping out from said space station with a parachute above the oured
then oured gets fucking annihilated by the rest of the wreck
>>
>>749180693
I guess they couldn't really commit to it for the whole game thanks to the plane restrictions, like there's only one attacker you can use from it and it's a complete piece of shit.

Rex loses his mind and gets into a plane, and the entire combined forces of the world have to try and stop him. You play from Rex's perspective, and think you're fighting Sotoans the whole time but you're really shooting down all your FCU allies including Tasha Kate and Baxter.

I figured out what is missing from the game, for me, to really make an all time great:
A moment where Cope sings a traditional Sotoan song, to accentuate his point of view that shadow22 and moon11 have perverted/forgotten what the nomads way of life meant.
All and all I'm really surprized by how much of a character Cope turned out to be, and by how attached to him I got in the end.

Time for a hot take, outside of Zero being Iconic it's not actually that much of a listen-on-repeat bop. I found just about any AC8 mission track to be more of an actual earworm than Zero was.
>>
>>749183746
I think in general they just quickly kind of move on after death. Cope stated they had like what 4-5 other full squads on Endurance just a few weeks prior and then they were down to just 2. I think the same can be said for the entirety of Strangereal.

I saw Shadow 22 at an air base armory in Sotoa yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face while shouting TERMINUS FINGERS very loudly. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off.
When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen QAAM in his hands without paying.
The quartermaster was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept saying it's a matter of interpretation, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the missiles and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each missile and put them in a cart and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

The last mission should've been Torres in his small escape submarine surfacing to check what the hell is going on, seeing that someone got to blow up a capital city that wasn't him and some dude taking on a hyper advanced super plane in the sky, and concluding it must be the fuck who split the Alicorn. Then he starts pursuing and emptying all his weaponry to destroy you and your aircraft carrier.

22 isn't a Pixy, he's more like a Crimson 1. If anything Moon 11 is closer to a "Pixy" but only insofar that Cope knew her and knows she's lost her marbles.
>>749185241
Yeah the wingman betrayal thing should not be overused. If we do play Mercs again next time I'd happily take something along the lines of "alright, contracy stipulates we kill you at the end of the mission, sorry pal" merc vs merc betrayal but then it'd be more on the business end.
If we have some AI or sublimated person in a plane I could accept them being forced to turn on us via override or something.

7 was rather blatantly unfinished story-wise and it's damn shame because there actually WAS a good story to be told

make the comms-blackout happen way earlier, while you're still in prison squad, everything turns to chaos and infighting and you do the "raid to survive" thing right after
basically go from prison squad to mercenaries with some route options

then go more in on the drone thing, spread out the war in time a bit more, every side running out of pilots, switching to using more drones to replace them and go with the drone AI taking over a bit earlier and have the threat of an AI system capable of prolonging the war endlessly be present for more than just the literal last god damn mission

would even be neat if Trigger squad remained one of the 2 (together with Sol) entirely human squads

It's like a game of rock paper scissors, but I think Trigger would be at the top
Mostly because at the end of the game he was fighting 2 AI drones with the flight data of Mihaly (who was on par with Yellow13) and later his own flight data. He defeated himself twice basically
The real duel would be between Mobius and Trigger. The mere presence of Mobius can stop the enemy and I think that's pretty cool :^)

MP is heavily balanced around plane stats, Fighters even with ground SpWs do fuck all to ground targets because of their low Air-To-Ground stat, you're better off bringing a low level attacker than a high level fighter to Alicorn/Chandelier where the bulk of the raid is ground targets.

4 and Zero both focus on disconnected vignettes which by their nature are much less demanding to write than a linear plot with interleaving characters.

>no ground gained in the writing department.
As a writing fag and appreciator myself, it is with regret that I must admit that most people simply don't care about stories, at all. To an extent you can get away with this in a video game. Ace Combat is a prime example of that. So long as the flying is good, the story doesn't really matter. A good story would certainly make the game better, but most people aren't even capable of appreciating well written stories.
Ironically, as much as I do like good writing, I don't really care for this game, as I bought it for the flying. Don't get me wrong, I would have preferred a better story for the game, but for the most part, I'm able to ignore it here. Personally though, I would have cut back on the stupid first-person high end graphics wank and actually clued the player into what's happening in the world and let the characters get more of a personality.
Oh well, such is life.

Yeah... you know what, I have too. It just feels like it's been a while. So I guess I've started to associate lower quality with them. We're at a weird spot in the AC timeline now. Either we do prequels like the Yuke-Satoan war or commit to an AC3 ending and go even further into sci-fi territory. I think it would be interesting if AC9 was about another Ace in UPEO or something. Some unknown factor in the Nemo Simulation. You're in the middle of the inter-corporate war duking it out and try to prevent Nemo from doing its thing. But really that would just end up being a AC3 remake in a roundabout way but it's a decent way to get out of writing yourself into a corner with AC3.
>>
>>749197948
It was just an example to easily point to. I've no desire to go into a full on essay on the common problems in the modern writings of Japanese media.

Anyway, looking forward to the mission in which we meet up with the FCU Cowardice, which will coincidentally flee from the enemy at the first sign of danger.

The supernatural element is what makes AC8's story work. The contrast between the human soul, the afterlife, and the future of sublimated AI pilots is the cornerstone of this type of sci-fi. Retards like you probably don't understand why newtypes exist in Gundam.
>>
>>749198204
next game could be about sotoa vs yukes
then maybe one more about the war that breaks the camel's back with regards to the general populace being sick of national governments having a war every 5-10 years
then maybe a prelude to 3 covering the intercorporate war (assuming it happens outside the simulation)
>>
AC8 is hopecore, but ultimately the bad guys win when you think about AC3. But also the bad guys lose because they wanted globalism so that they'd have more power without government being in the way. In the end, it just ends up being a world with borders in a different skin. Countries fighting each other and defending their territory or corporations fighting each other defending their territory. Just ended up the same. Intentional writing or coincidence kino?
>>

Indirectly. Enso order is Grunder rebranded which is Belka. Enso bankrolled Sotoa and gave them some fun toys and pointed them to a place to fuck up. But Sotoa clearly didn't have any qualms about it.
>>
>>749199106
He was a skilled pilot
>>
>>749199106
Honestly yeah wasn't a fan. He didn't kill Sotoans directly but was more than happy to create the circumstances of their death. Making them slam into a wall at mach 2 is still killing them. Distracting them so another squad or SAM shoots them down is still being involved in their killing. He just wanted to feel good. But hey I mean his name is Cope for crying out loud. And he definitely is good and what he does if he survived that long not firing his gun.

>>
>>749198981
>>749199259
Honestly the comparison fits a lot than you'd think at first glance.
>constantly at war with all its neighbors
>extremely good at infiltration, falseflags and orchestrating wars between 3rd parties
>very aggressive scorched earth policy rather than let enemy occupy you (Hannibal directive)
As with other Strangereal countries, they're inspired by a mix of several countries. Their geography, language, history, culture etc. could all be based on different irl places rather than just one country that fits the whole description
>>
>>749199106
If I knew his name would be cope I would have named my character seethe
>>
>>749199351
yea, Cope is a weird add-on.
If the narrative implied it's all because of Cope-ex-machina, the "feel-like-a-hero" angle kinda gets muted like Venom Snake in MGSV.

PA just doing PA stuff and compromising across different story directors. I'm pretty sure one of the original ideas was having an unmute protagonist hence why Cope has such a big VA budget in Japan
>>
>>749199418
Seriously. People see that he looks like legally distinct Maverick and assume he must have been great, but we're never shown that.
>>
>>749199485

He was absolutely a good pilot. We have too many sources that point to it being true
He's just not a protagonist tier pilot.

It's fine keeping the twist, I'm more annoyed that we're "exposed" as a fraud despite turning the war around and making sorties and fleets go radio silent whenever Wings is around. But sure, ignore the weeping of widows and mothers. Their cries won't bring their sons and husbands back.

Debra Wilson was alright, she's fine as the no-nonsense XO who occasionally shows her softer side. It's just some parts of her dialogue that sounds redubbed and have a different acoustic that kinda feels jarring. Like she has to do additional redubbing and did it from home or something.

to be fair its implied multiple times they're actually crazy. as in its not as though they're all there and still think this its that they've been down there for two months and lost their shit. if they were 100% sane and were still like "yes well actually wings you are a liar" then fine, but they've been getting raped for months, then find out the kill counts are faked and they have good reason to doubt the dude in front of them is legit

thats one of the most strange things in the story. he is in the military. Tasha also didnt shoot anyone and that makes sense because she's an acrobatic pilot/civilian. what does he expect to do in the military if he wont fight? he'll fight only if the enemy is who he wants? that's quite something, and he ought to have been another kind of pilot besides a fighter pilot.
>>
>>749200419
it was funny how she kept bringing up cake
>>
Cope should of let me see my nigga Baxter one last time if he was going to come back for Mission 30
>>
>>749200731
Presumably he does a lot of what Tasha did early on - he baits pilots into AA/SAM range or sets up kills for other pilots
But it's worth noting that this strategy has resulted in 3 other fighter squadrons being wiped out. Logically in the military he'd end up as like, a transport pilot or something non weapon oriented. But this is ace combat, not reality

this was also what annoyed me about Tasha early on.

while being the protagonist and flung into leading a flight, we still don't really know for sure how well we will do, so if someone just flat out doesnt fight, people can die. and thats already happened with Cope. its just a very glaringly unacceptable thing that is just glossed over by everyone and you mostly cant or dont do anything about it.
>>
>>749200731
Well, it does happen:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Doss
Most of the time they're just sent into the frontlines so they'd either: need to shoot to live, just hide and drag bodies, or die
>>

>>
>>749200731
I imagine that the majority of pilots never actually get a confirmed kill so as long as he was dumping some ammo as to not come back with exactly the amount he probably wouldn't even get noticed until they were so low on pilots they just had to work around it.
