On one hand Nintendo's family friendly games lean a bit too young going as far as to make the game too easy, on the other hand most of the industry tries too hard to insist that they are explicit as if the 14+ market wont buy it unless it has the highest age rating. Games like the Souls games are obnoxiously gory at all times, dialogue heavy western games have to be cussing constantly. Then you have game like FF7 Remake where grown men have tantrums because a character doesn't smoke a cigarette like it's killed the entire experience and has to be boycott.There's no middle ground like the 64 Zeldas (example) that appeal to all demographics, are decently challenging and can explore darker or more mature themes without being ridiculous. It just can't exist
