Download the audio and copy the lyrics for any song we don't have Timed Lyrics for on the Finished tab.

First, go to the website listed above. Paste the lyrics into the text area then click 'Synchronize to music'. You will be taken to a new page. Click the Audio button and select the matching music file. Then start the playback with the START button.

Now all you need to do is look at the lyrics on screen, and click "Next Line" (or your spacebar) as the line starts being sung. The lyric in the text area will be highlighted white letting you know the line was tagged. If you mess up, you can pause with the Continue button (now a timer) and click the button next to any lyric to rewind the song timing to that point. It's not super strict on timing, you're basically just listening to the song and clicking when each line starts.

When you reach the end of the lyrics you posted, the 'Next Line' button should now be replaced with a 'Get File' button which will download the .lrc file to your PC.

Now, just open the .lrc file with a text editor (even plain Notepad works) and take only the timed lyric lines alongside timestamps and paste them into Rentry. Here's an example: https://rentry.co/ypef847z

To pretty up the file optionally but recommended:
1. Read along as you time, and if the singfag changed lyrics, fix it to match what was sang in the text afterwards. Delete stuff like directions on pronunciation too.
2. Add an extra [00:00.00] timing to the start of the text, it makes the start of the song clean.
3. Delete the website's advertising bit at the end.

I was digging in the archives and came across this post I wrote for Let SH2 Die two years ago. Figured it might be useful for our new editors this year:

Secret #1 is to not use Audacity. I use Studio One, but it's a bit pricey so if you don't wanna bother pirating, get Reaper. I made a mixing template for it, which you can find in this helpful anon's post >>749032439

Secret #2 is knowing how to use your plugins.
Most plugins I use are included with those torrents. I also use FabFilter and a few stock SO plugins.
Picrel shows all the plugins I used for this mix. The highest inserts come before the ones below it in the chain. Ignore the numbers after the names, they're automatically added by SO.
>Trackspacer
This automatically carves out space from the instrumental to make room for the vocals.
>Pro-Q
Very nice EQ plugin. For this mix I cut the lows slightly and boosted the highs for clarity.
>Pro-MB
Multiband compressor. I usually just use this to tame the upper frequencies a bit, but here I also used it to tame the mids.
>Pro-C
Compressor. I used it to tame the transients (shortest attack possible) and boost the signal.
Pro-L
Basically a compressor with infinite ratio. I use it to prevent the mix from peaking.
>Saturation Knob
Adds a bit of saturation. I use this a lot but not on every mix.
>ReaFir
Fantastic noise removal plugin. Comes stock with Reaper but you can also get it here https://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/
>Redlight District
Nice and simple distortion plugin. Used it for the super distorted tracks, but also to make the radio effect.
>Fat Channel
Usually just use it for the vintage EQ, this time to cut the highs slightly on the shouts.

Used to tame the harsh S sounds.

Used to add harmonies. The best way is to write MIDI for those notes, as it gives you total control. Takes a bit of time to find, made easier by running Melodyne on the original vocals.

For this mix I wanted a rhythmic delay, so I set it to a half note. This requires finding the tempo of the song, which was easy because it was recorded to a click so it was steady. If the song is old, the tempo usually varies a lot. I can map the tempo myself but it's a bit tedious, so I first check if someone else has done it on chorus.fightthe.pw (a website for Guitar Hero/Rock Band custom songs, if the song is .mid it's drag and drop, if it's .chart you need to convert it to .mid with Editor on Fire).

You only recorded everything once, which usually means it can't be panned. However on this I also had the other anon's takes, so I used them as the guide for VocAlign, and created a "second take" for your backings. That's why they sound so wide. First time I tried this and it turned out really well.

Secret #3 is automation. You rarely want a track to have the same volume throughout the song, so you can write automation that automatically changes it for you. Everything in a mix that can be adjusted, can be automated. Picrel shows all the automation I used for this mix.

Good luck. I'm a writefag, and I hide my name in my lyrics all the time. The first letters of each stanza, sometimes the last letter. So when the lyrics are posted on the youtube channel, it reads the name out if you look at the last letter and read down.

I see it's labelled Take 1, so if you're still doing takes, the only feedback as far as performance goes is something I also tripped up on when singing it for myself when writing it. That early "animal" is easy to stumble on and might work better for you if you just sing it while cutting that middle syllable, like "an-mal crossing" instead of "an-i-mal crossing". You did great keeping up with the line without cutting that out, but it could be smoother.

So far, the thing that has absolutely stuck out to me the most is the retsnom route. It was probably the most emotional any of the games have made me feel. I won't go too much into it but if you have not played that route, then do not check this spoiler. It wont' be super spoilery but I wouldn't want to hinder that route for anybody:
I wish there was a song that captured how it feels to go from how Darumi is portrayed in the rest of the game, her in those routes, and then going back and the baggage that attaches. I have so much to say about it but it's hard to put into text.
On a lighter/comical note, how insane it is that (light spoiler I guess if you haven't reached the credits) The fact that they give you basically a 20 hour prologue is probably too much for most gamers and it's so fucking funny that the mad lads did it. This is really why I respect the game so much, they went all in. I may not like every route (FUCK you coming of age, you are a piece of fucking GARBAGE jesus christ, guest writers were a mistake) but it's so cool how they did it.

Oh yeah I can't blame you at all, it's a very hard hitting plotline and Darumi feels realistic despite how absurd she often is. If Darumi/Resnom happens to be a strong topic that connects with you as well, it feels like it's worth pursuing because like I was saying just before you did, the 1 song I held back on writing was a Darumi song. If the other anon also likes the idea, it could be a group writing thing even.

If you have specific artists or songs that you know well and think you can work well with, especially anything anywhere near the tone you'd want for a Darumi/Retsnom song, I can look and see if I can make something work with any of them. I feel like I can do OK with darker tones, I liked how my Saya song last year turned out, and I could see a Retsnom song being pretty close to that tonally if we don't want to go sillier on it.

yeah that's always the catch with this late in the musical, most people have stuff lined up that'll last them this last week. I do need to get to doing some singing now that it's my window, but I'm gonna think on this and see if I can squeeze in enough time for something longer. I'm not gonna lie the idea of going all out on a full song sounds appealing because the topic means a lot to me too, but in the same way thinking about that makes me think perhaps saving it for next year to give it the time it deserves is for the best.

I think it's odd you're conflating the two. I don't consider the chance of a song getting sung at all, because they are not variables on the same graph. If getting a song that technically has your name on it sung is all you care about, then it's easy, we know sources of songs that certain singers will rush to sing. Write low effort songs on them and they'll get sung.
Personally? I'd rather write something I could be proud of and have it not sung then write something lazy and boring that gets sung because a lazy writefag enables a lazy singfag to also not learn a new song. I'm not going to shame you in the stream chat for it, but I'm going to turn my nose up at a glorified cover and it's certainly never going to be something I choose to listen to over the original.
Ask yourself what you care about: your name on the sheet for a finished written song, or something you truly made yourself. This is a passion project, so I will always be a cheerleader for actually bringing passion instead of complacency. I get some people think the lowest effort possible is the best path, and that's their own choice and I'm still glad to share the musical with them, but I could never imagine myself starting work on a song and saying "today I will use my time on this passion project to phone it in".

I just wanted to say I really appreciate all the singers who did my songs this years. I had wanted to write more, but when I saw how many songs of mine had already been sung, I thought it better to take a break. I think this is the best year I've had so far in the musical.
