This is my favorite mod for this game
https://www.nexusmods.com/controlresonant/mods/107
allows weapon switching for light and heavy
and allows you to manually execute combat finishers, you can legit just do constant combat finishers if you wanted
ability skills also work by just holding two buttons to use them

nexus is being gay so the latest update of it cant be downloaded for the version before it still works

I'm now deep in Act 2. At first I found the game tedious with all the open world stuff, but the story really picks up in the Underpass and it's been kino ever since.
>>
>>749367415
spamming combo finishers would be too overpowered no?
>>
So what's up with the Underpass? Is it like the roots of the Oldest House? Is it actually physically below Manhattan or is it a threshold with the sinkhole just being an entrance that opened due to the patterning?
>>
>>749372280
I think it's a resonant reflection of the world above, the way the sky just goes up, and the hole just goes down. The sinkhole was a means for the resonant entity to try and get into the oldest house from below, where it keeps all of its old discarded rooms and the foundations and the nail are. It was probably trying to resonate the nail, now that I think about it.

>I think it's a resonant reflection of the world above
The sapling seems like it's part of the Oldest House and has been there as long as the House has. The lightbulb quest also makes it seem like the entire area is connected to the Oldest House and has also been around for as long.
>>
>>749372280
It contains the roots and the heart of the Oldest House.

The best part is you can eat her
>>
>>749376293
Yeah I was thinking it's something like that.
I'm kind of curious about where it actually exists. Has it physically been under Manhattan all this time or is it a threshold connected to/a part of the Oldest House that just had an entrance open due to the patterning?

I would lean towards threshold, or part of the oldest house where space is malleable. Remember that the Foundation expansion is supposed to be under there.

sinkhole more like kinohole
>>
>>749376723
It’s probably always just been underground. Remember how they mentioned it’s possible that the space in the Sinkhole always existed, and the Patterning merely opened it up? I think the Tree itself, being Humanity’s oldest home, became an Object of Power, and resulted in the creation of the Oldest House above ground. It’s also heavily implied to be Yggdrasil.
>>
>>749365330
I am still playing. I just saved Airish from the evacuation zone.
>>
Just how many health points are there in this game again? I'd swear I've collected every single large resource crate at this point and I'm still missing 2 out of 3 for one final health upgrade. Jesus christ this game's bugged to hell
>>
>>749376961
I feel like it would need to either always be connected to the Oldest House or just straight up be a part of it below the Foundation. It seems the Sapling is almost the heart or something, so what would the House do if it lost connection to the heart?
The House itself seems like a threshold so it's probably just part of the same one with a different entrance.
>>749377290
I'm not sure how that works though. Surely it would have been discovered via ground scans or something. Unless it has the same effect as the House where you don't notice it unless you know about it. Even then, the FBC should have discovered it earlier.
I feel like a massive cave directly under one of the largest cities in the world is a bit too much of a stretch.
>>
>>749378350
Much like the Oldest House, unless you’re explicitly looking for it, you won’t find it. The patterning is likely messing with this though.
>>
>>749378350
NYC is right by the water, so I feel like any open underground space would have filled in by now.
>>
>setting up beacons
>accidentally skip the first link because I thought I was supposed to jump to the evac building first
>>
>>749378206
Some are locked in zones that open only if you do specific sidequests. The only way to get them all is to do all quests and tasks.
>>
>>749372280
Oldest House was discovered in the NY sewers

Also its DMC5 where the building is actually the root
>>
>>749380481
I've scoured the game at this point. Finished the story, high scored all arcade machines and did every single side quest and minor task. Yet I'm still missing 2 health points and 1 energy point so I just don't know if I'm just plain stupid and missed some stuff hiding in plain sight
>>

I'm right at the end, and was playing the end sequence but had to go out and couldn't finish it.
Overall the game is OK, OK combat, OK story, OK characters. The bosses are pretty lame though. And worse nothing really cool with the paranormal entities like in the first game.
I was hoping for something cooler and mind bending, this is not it. 7/10 and don't think the end will blow my mind enough to rethink the score.

There's a billion different pieces of fiction about massive caves under Manhattan. Marvel Comics is especially notorious on this.

Now that I've done that though I've noticed that I still have one empty ability slot and the command charge gets its own so I'm wondering if I missed a resonant or if the hedron boss is the one that has it

I've been playing the original Control so I'll be able to follow what's going on in this sequel which looks very fun but man, it's hard to sit through jesse's narration sometimes. It seems exactly like the type of game that is parodied now.
When you first encounter a levitating hiss she literally says "so they fly now"

I honestly dont get why any of you are fanboys of this series
>>
>>749414147
>it's hard to sit through jesse's narration sometimes
My memory blocks almost all the flavour dialogue and leaves 'director spinning and powering up turbine, heh' stuff, so not much of a problem desu.
Sequel not having enough cool objects of power is a crime though.
>>
Should I jump into this or do I need to play the first? Its like 6 bucks on steam right now. This one looks aesthetically more my style
>>
>>749414147
>I honestly dont get why any of you are fanboys of this series
Top notch atmosphere, memorable set-pieces, great level-design, an actual intriguing AND coherent realization of the SCP concept, you can also feel that artists with actual taste had a hand in making it. What's not to like?
The quirky dialogue is also very overstated and never happens during any important sequences, so it's not like Marvel where it robs the seriousness of the actual dramatic/impactful scenes.
>>
>>749414514
They are different enough to make playing them both worthwhile and they kind of work as different sides of the same coin. The first is a lot more intriguing and mysterious, Resonant just throws it all in your face without caring whether you 'get' the concepts or not. It's a decent starting point either way but I'm not sure if you'll care about anyone other than the protag and his handler if you haven't played the first game.
>>
>>749364063
Just fucking stop, you don't know how to do the Board speak, you fuck it up every single fucking time. You look like a fucking retard constantly trying to do it, stop it.
>>
>>749414514
If you want some action + cool locations, then go straight for Resonant. There's a previously on video right in the menu that will introduce you.

But I think the first one was an overall more interesting game, so 6$ seems like a good price for it.
>>
>>749414456
>>749414589
I have been trying to ignore it and it's admittedly not that egregious most of the time but between the narration and every character looking like a lesbian or hipster doofus it's starting to get on my nerves. The only cool (human?) character so far has been the janitor. He embodies the actual aesthetic I think they're going for. I don't know how I feel about Darling yet. The Board is iconic

I'm really not a poltard, I see what's cool about this game and I'm exploring and reading everything I come across, there's that side of the game and then it feels fused with a different game made by californians

Darling is only a quirk chungus for the camera. A lot of other notes confirm he’s a dick head.
>>
>>749419328

>>
just finished the game, very disappointed that all I did was mash X and dodge occasionally and didn't die to any of the bosses

also they didn't address a single of the mysteries from the first game, like what happened to darling, and what ahti/the board is

the only thing they really covered was the "dylan and jessie are the same person" thing, but they didn't even fully explain that, and they didn't do anything meaningful with it either
>>
>>749419669
post-game video shows him being an alchoholic to cope with how poorly he treated dylan and how he only acted terrible to him because he felt that was what was necessary for the bureau's survival
>>
>>749420186
he’s also using Dylan as an emotional punching bag because his dad was terrible to him too
>>
>>749420126
Alan Wake 2 already confirmed that Darling was turned into a Resonant Entity after prolonged contact with the Hedron. He’s currently in the Dark Place with Zane, and working with him to get out.

I don't really think that Ahti or Board explanation is that required.
But lack of overall objects of power and stories connected to them made the game feel incomplete

Guilt alone does not make him a good person. Everyone has a conscience. To be a good person he has to actually listen to that conscience and try to help the person he victimized, not sit around feeling sorry for himself.
Tons of abusers play at guilt, promise to change, etc., and then hit people the instant they get angry again.

Ahti is literally Ahti, the Finnish Water God.

It also offsets the common fan complaint that Dylan is too obedient to the FBC. With the drawings, he goes off a lot to do what he wants. It's just that what he wants isn't the typical isekai fantasy of getting bloody revenge on everyone.

Does Jesse know that her brother uses the stake she stabbed him with a weapon?
>>
>>749423024
She knows and counts on it, she just didn't expect that Dylan would stay with the FBC.
>>
>>749423716
Not like he had much of a choice.
>>
>>749423716
>she just didn't expect that Dylan would stay with the FBC
>why would a young man with stunted developement want to stay and act as the hero
She clearly does not understand young men.
>>
>>749424661
If you're older than someone you meet when they're really young, they're always going to seem that age to you no matter how many years pass.
>>
>>749424661
Where was he supposed to go? It’s not like he could just get up and leave.
>>
>>749423024
Honestly Jesse's plan is really piss poor and it's not even clear why she's so secretive about it.
Like I get why she hid the Aberrant from the FBC, because I wouldn’t want these incompetent fucks messing around with creating anomalies, but why hide where she was going and how? It’s just making their job more difficult. And her whole plan concerning Dylan amounted to "I hope once I stab him with this he'll just go and leave his life (by the way if I fail the universe ends)
>>
>>749425921
She jobbed incredibly hard too. If Dylan didn’t show up to help her she would’ve been fucked.
>>
>>749425691
He could've chose to try and run but he that never happened. The moment he heard a woman calling for help over the radio he went in. He wants to be the hero. He wants to save people. Dylan despite everything the FBC did to him is a good person at heart.
>>
>>749426297
But he couldn’t have. Even if he tried, there was no escaping Manhattan by the time he woke up.
>>
>>749425921
>>749426296
You missed the part where she was being affected by what was happening. You also seem to forget that every time she went in a fault that warped her or were you not listening to her dialogue? That's why she did not want Dylan to follow her, because she thought that what happened to her would happened to him as well. She was clearly wrong but that's beside the point.
>>
>>749426398
But he did not even try. The moment he heard the damsel in distress he rushed to save her. His desire to help is clearly stronger than his desire to escape the FBC.
>>
>>749426474
Still a jobber.
>>
>>749416702
1 guy at remedy cared about hdr implementation
Its not doing super advanced graphics stuff is it, they have 1 time of day, faces look blobby and are distinctly subpar on lipsync
They dont use unreal 5 so lumen or nanite or megalights. They managed to improve the streaming system so the game has a lot of objects in memory as you move through the city thats dynamically loaded in.
They didnt smear visuals with random anti-soul gas most of the time.
The visual presentation being impressive relies on heavy use of saturated one tone colors and scifi yet grounded equipment littered around.
>>
>>749426398
I don't think Jesse knew about the rift around Manhattan.
Besides, the FBC's control over Manhattan isn't that good. They don't have the numbers to kill Dylan or even find him if he just hides out in an abandoned apartment somewhere.
>>
>>749426576
I’m saying hypothetically if he tried. Please try to follow along. Jesse’s plan was bad because by the time Dylan woke up, it was already impossible for him to escape.
>>
>>749426982
Arish would’ve burned through 10 teams just to hunt down Dylan.
>>
>>749410173
I used both the hammer and the whip and only just recently unlocked the drill. The whip is nice with how many flying enemies there can be at times. If a fight has a bunch of heavies though and I die then I usually switch to hammer

The hannah quest was another cut content thing?
They made her autistic, and her sister wanted to move out because she didnt want to deal with it anymore.
But it just ends with her weird behavior being mold eating, it could've been played for shes acting weird because autism.
And it ends in a shart where you kill her like any other corrupted npc. what

Why did this game has no much unfinished stuff. You cant even switch weapons on the fly.

It's not jobbing if you're facing a universe-destroying entity. And note that she DID almost close all the Faults and nearly cut the Patterning off at the pass - it just managed to close the distance before she and Dykan could seal the last one and by that point it was too close to stop.

Its kinda weird that they give you command charge so late into the game when you have almost no use for it except newgame+ maybe? (I'm assuming you keep all your upgrades and abilities when you start that) and unfinished side misison. The first game gave that ability mid game where it made a lot more sense and was actually useful until you got flight
>>
>>749428363
It being a NG+ ability wouldn't have been a problem if half the skill tree wasn't about it
>>
>>749428363
You use them on the spheres, and become effectively invincible. Otherwise you use them on the big enemies like the Ruiners or Busses, or the final boss.
>>
>>749427930
You can keep the mystery without having things entirely unexplained. The mark of a good writer is how well they can walk that line, but they basically don't explain anything in the game, which makes it feel like the writers themselves don't actually know anything and are hacks.

Irc from the notes in the first game the government is aware of them and they're constantly complaining about budget constraints but they also have a bunch of ways of alleviating budget crunch so that their spending doesn't really standout whenever any federal auditing occurs so they're just there existing enough for the government to be aware of their existence but not standing out enough for anybody to really look into them and what they're currently doing constantly. I think the nsc got created because of those same budget problems and alleviating said spending. Darling also mentions in oen of his p6 videos or notes that the director still has to meet with government representatives and the president and that he's concerned about how much the government cares that their not involved in the director selection process anymore since the board who the government don't even know about

Jesse and Dylan are the WORST characters in the entire remedyverse, the aboslute worst part of Control is acting like the player should give a single fuck about either of them.

Darling, Trench, the Board, fucking Alan, are all far more integral characters than either one of these faggots. Alan Wake 2 was such fucking kino that im genuinely afraid they wont be able to keep that level of quality into AW3

Control has amazing worldbuilding with terrible characterization. Alan Wake has 10/10 characterization with very little worldbuilding in contrast to the grand mystery. Its the biggest issue with the series going forward.
>>
>>749441757
Jesse was kinda whatever but Dylan is a fucking kino character and you're genuinely illiterate if you can't see it.
Like yeah, you can get mad at the player character being pushed around or whatever, but as a character Dylan is one of the best we've had.
>>
>>749441757
Just for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jHIYqlivLQ

This is the level of acting Jesse was expected to perform in Resonant. All the best characters in Control are dead or quirky alien concepts. Jesse fucking sucks. Dylan fucking sucked in 1, and only stopped sucking slightly less in Resonant.

Dylans entire character in Control was >Dylans not here right now...:))))) im so creepy and elusive.....I...I mean.....WE....

compared to what? Max Payne and Wake? The only two good protagonists in the entire series? You act like Remedy hasnt only had a handful of IPs that they barely own.

Dylan is a faggot that let every FBC member walk over him for half the fucking game. You dont even get an option to tell them to go fuck themselves until the story deems it fit. Dylan shouldve been telling these faggots to fuck off within the first 10 minutes. Instead he's going "what can I do to help :( its all my fault im so sorry :("

Holy shit youre literally a Remedy marketer.

Hey retard. When literally everyone in plot is pretending like the groomed superman is actually a piece of shit, it doesnt take that much mental fortitude to realize the writers are trying to make you think the most normal person in the plot is a fucking piece of shit. Its not quirky. You're not a good writer.

>OMG I CANT BELIEVE WE CAPTURED YOU AND PUT YOU INTO A CONTAINTMENT CELL YOU PIECE OF SHIT YOURE LITERALLY HITLER
