>western fantasy games stopped being good the instant they stopped trying to look, feel, sound etc like heavy metal album covers

Correlation or causation?

Western fantasy became good the moment they took inspiration from Ocarina of Time, the greatest game ever made, 27 days to go, bros.

Should've moved on to edgy death metal concepts instead of more Conan dragonz n shiet.

really tertiary thing to think about but I’ve always wondered how people go about choosing or making fonts for their logos

Same.
I'm still listening to them right now...

Hire an artist who iterates over it a shit ton of times. The art of lettering is pretty interesting.

Not trusting any fantasy devs that don't have at least one heavy metal song behind them

>Yo Spoogy can you draw me a cool logo for my band?
>Yeah whatever
>autistically layers colors over an edgy logo

>COOL
Today
>Singer rips some generic font and photoshops it so nobody notices

Listened to that whole album today while working.
Nice.
Maybe I'll play some Neverwinter Nights 2 tonight.

Queen of the dark horizons!

>played tons of fantasy games in the 2000s but only got into heavy metal a couple years ago
I feel like I missed out like crazy
>>
>>749374397
I think it was when the subversions and deconstructions became the default.
>>
>>749378373
You have an amazingly long backlog.

Aesthetic is far from the only thing that determines quality but a lot of fantasy feels like it's trying to either heavily subvert the overdone aspects or stick so staunchly to convention that it's dull with that wiggleroom sweetspot in-between being ignored.

>>749374768
For me it was Blind Guardian & Dragon's Dogma (Japanese game I know but it was a perfect match).
>>
It's the other way. Metal albums copied fantasy covers.

Metal really is for losers.
>>
It shouldn't surprise you that in 1990 SFF was dominated by male readers and it was mostly Anglo-European.

Now it's female reader dominated, morally grey dominated, and systematized over mythologized.
