I read this one Leisure Suit Larry one where the guy bought it at a yard sale, but when he booted it up, it was called Let's Skin Larry and it showed graphic, hyper-realistic scenes of Larry getting tortured

Why did analog horror fail?
>>
>>749384038
The more I think about it it really is kino how the dude made up a whole other game's worth of content, including completely original worlds and monsters for bosses with their own sprite work. I guess he was an artfag who had thought them up ages ago and just worked backwards to slap on a story to have an excuse to post his designs. Would explain the afterthought-style ending.

I liked a lot one about a weird NES prototype that the mc got to test anonymously and the twist at the end its that it was an early build of FF1.
There's also Fallout 2 Auger quest where the beginning its really interesting but when you get to the ending it just feels like "Huh? That's it?"
>>
>>749384038
The world building was so fucking good, even if the whole bit with Melissa was way too overt/forced and took a lot of the tension out. If he kept it vague and utilized his effective use of non-sequitur moments to subtly hint at the idea that maybe Melissa was haunting him through the cartridge or that the beast had a way to read Zach's innermost fears and manifest them as a game, but never outright telling you, then it would have been far easier pill to swallow. Even if he wanted to keep the final fight and the deus ex machina golden kaiju, he could have approached it with a bit more tact to keep an open discussion by the end.
Regardless, still my favorite 'pasta and I don't even care about Godzilla
>>
>>749390048
zoomers unironically, specifically because they overproduced and overdid the fuck out of the found footage/VHS aesthetic and it always came across as corny or clearly just a kid who never saw a VHS in his life trying to turn it into this le cool nostalgia vibe showcase.
>>
>>749390048
It didn't fail, people just used it wrong. The creeps are supposed to be kinda meta and come from the idea these are old tapes of mysterious origin, like found footage. Zoomers think the vhs filter itself is the horror because they can't comprehend a world before smartphones, and unfortunately it hit the zeitgeist just as they were growing up and ready to pump out endless slop to pollute the scene.

Decided to watch someone play through FRLG ips… my lord what a snoozefest. It was pretty interesting for the first 30 minutes, but it just devolves into incoherent and self indulgent exposition dumping for legit the rest of the game. The design is also unnecessarily railroaded and absurd to the point where it doesn’t even feel like a creepypasta game, but instead feels like a romhack for the sake of itself. Basically, it just feels like some bullshit the dev wanted to make and show everyone their fanfic-y romhacking instead of dropping this otherwise unknown product and letting people discover non sequiturs and oddities on their own. It feels like myhouse.wad made by someone who didn’t understand what made myhouse compelling.

The 4th generation of pokemon games if you do that glitch to bug out the render distance and noclip out of bounds and sequence break straight into the Hall of Origin. Whoever made the music for the (unreleased) arceus event really decided to put some horror ambiance in the presence of pokemon's god.

Probably a retarded take, but i feel like the average Analog Horror slopper only got good after the Urbanspook controveray.

Sure, all the actually big names were already doing big productions, but the genre got better after people turned against cheap scares, and after Episode Hell it had another massive step up comapred to before.

On an unrelated note, i don't understand wjat people saw in The Man In The Suit, it was just genuinely boring but every horror youtuber claims it's the peak of Godzilla inspired horror.
>>
>>749390048
even local 58 failed by overexplaining everything. shame, really.
>>
Not necessarily a creepypasta, but when RE3 was originally about be release, there was a rumor floating around that there the scene in where Jill gets infected by Nemesis would have her actually being impregnated by his tentacle, raped as it is.
>>
>>749383869
of ones' not mentioned yet training.bsp is very good

>>749385780
there's a lot to it I've yet to get through especially with the more recent update, but it is very well done
I like FRLG.ips a lot too, kinda like the pokemon equivalent
I guess Green Mountain is the only real sonic equivalent and it's kinda barebones esp in comparison to 'the and FRLG.ips
>>749388521
>>749389667
The first several eps are quite good, but you can really tell they started spinning their wheels around like 12 or so. They even admitted the newmaker stuff was a huge mistake.
Sheriff Domestic is funny
>>749384038
>>749390612
This, the actual effort put into describing weird and melancholy landscapes and incorporating other godzilla characters takes it to a level a lot of other creepypastas, especially vidya ones, don't get too detailed like that
>>749384285
the dosbox thing is really laughable but otherwise quite good
>>
>>749390048
mandela catalogue in particular was what started the elongated face thing and made it take over the genre, worsening it significantly
most AH stuff that followed took from it way too heavily, stuff before hand wasn't great mind you but at least local58 ripoffs were generally more solid than MC ripoffs
in general local58 and Gemini Home Entertainment are still the tippytop in AH quality to my knowledge, though I haven't ever bothered much with backroom derivative stuff. There are a few others I like but they all aren't as good.
Oh, tho they aren't really AH, I want to mention that there's been like 0 good EAS horror shit outside of Local58's stuff. Almost all of them are made by legit children for some reason. Same with channel hijackings.
t. has watched way way too many of these things some years ago

>>749398001
i didn't really notice that kind of change, mostly cause the big ones i followed I believe took hiatuses then.
TMITS had a few good eps in my opinion but I think with either the ghidorah or anguirius one it was hitting wheel spinning territory
it was better than suitmation trials at least

>>749392905
I'd argue it is comprehensible and it has a cool story but absolutely is it railroaded to hell (even if there are side things to find, like you can't take charizard or venusaur). The sans sailor is also just kinda way too fucking on the nose, like c'mon
I think it's cool enough overall at least.

That whole controversy just solidified to me this whole analog trend is mostly, if not all disingenuous horror. As retarded and poorly written Urbanspoom and its author were, the moment the analog zoomies were confronted with something genuinely uncomfortable to them, they threw a fit. Ultimately with most saying that analog horror needs to be done some “proper” way, that some subject matter was just out of bounds now because it made them too creeped out o algo. The moment the faces of analog horror and their followings went “yea we can’t show that, too offensive/disturbing/disgusting” etc. is the moment I knew it’s all just a bunch of actual either children or hyper emotional teenagers or YA’s with a film grain/VHS fetish trying to making Nexpobait content so they can get that comfy series breakdown to a psx graphics narration with silent hill 2 music in the background. All for people to enjoy a sufficiently safe horror with an elongated face and VHS stylicism from the comfort of their own beds…

MiTS was okay. I think the last episode was actually going to lead into something proper and major with Ghidorah but then the guy behind it suicide baited on twitter, cancelled the series and went on to make a murder drones analog horror (which seems to be gone now, maybe he got rid of it after his second suicide bait) and then just turned MiTS into a roblox game. Kinda doesn’t help he was an underage sperg when the show was being made.

>>749400364
I agree to an extent, it's weird to me how sanitized modern indie horror is, people literally flip their shits if you touch over sensitive topics. Meanwhile Hollywood just shits out torture porn movies and people just accept it, but that's beside the point.
>>
>>749393090
>>749392905
>>749391335
Yeah FRLG ips is basically FRLG weird route. Like the creator blatantly said they were trying to do something like Deltarunes weird route, which is why the game exists. I think its best enjoyed if you don’t take it seriously at all, and treat it in the same vain you would a cheesy horror film.
>>
>>749400562
>don't get what the point is of going onto a videogames board and then making fun of anons talking about videogames.
Because these people aren't here to talk about Video games, they literally don't like video games. They are here to engage in culture wars while projecting their own insecurities onto others because they are angry at the world, usually its just a failed normalfag.
Anyway, Misfortune.gb is great. I loved it back then simply because of the premise of "misfortune will befall your loved ones" and that creeped me out more than the premise of the game haunting me instead.
>>
>>749400364

>>749400582
Sorry for the formatting and spelling, hate phone posting. But yea, obviously we don’t need to fill everything with the worst kind of overt imagery you can think of. I just hate how clearly sanitized analog horror content is. It’s weird, because you look at something like the Lacey flash series, it covers genuinely disturbing and gross subject matters. Then you look at analog horror, and you wonder where the fuck is any of that kind of edge? Like good/disturbing/no filter internet horror still exists, but analog zoomers either don’t or want to go there.

right, i steer very clear from those threads so i end up forgetting them sometimes.
i really like that misfortune's also a mishmash of game boy games, like whatever supernatural shit is going on is just pulling these sprites to make something coherant to do what it does.
>>749400820
i remember seeing the creator's video on snakewood with part of it saying it was kind of an inspiration too, which, even as someone that likes snakewood, is retarded cause snakewood has NO IDEA what it wants to be cause the creator obviously winged it as he went along.
also just so sick of UT/DR infecting everything which is why i've avoided it like a plague but not everyone will be immediately thrown off by that.

Make scp-1733 a game you can play instead of a recording where the players are aware something is taking control of them and the player tries to communicate with them through the game.

this one time i booted up palworld but the colors were slightly muted and the characters on the title screen were all frowning and had realistic wounds from the battle taking place on that particular screen; they were looking right at me and when i went to click "play" my mouse hovered over it and "play" was replaced with "why?" with a question mark beside it. i thought it peculiar, but i couldn't wait to enter the whimsical world of the palpalgos islands with all my funny friends - which is what i call my pals.
curiously, after creating my character and selecting what color i wanted their hyper realistic eyes to be, i did not find myself watching the opening cutscene to the game where the player character awakes on the sun-kissed beaches of isle of beginnings, but instead merely saw them sitting in the corner of a dark room illuminated solely by a bright screen and sobbing uncontrollably. when i entered the game (for real this time), the usual friendly NPC was not there - only a bloodstain and an extinguished fire.
i crafted by first palsphere and approached my first pal - cattiva, the cowardly feline; despite its moniker and always having a 100% chance to have the "coward" perk which gives it 10% less attack damage than other pals, i always found it to be a reliable starting pal. i threw the palsphere, and watched with baited breath as the capture bar reached 100% capture rate, successfully capturing my beloved cattiva... but when i looked at my party screen, i noticed that it was not named the default "cattiva", but was instead named "catDIEva" and it only knew a single move - "implode" - one of the 2 moves in the game that lets a pal kill itself...

Analog horror had real potential as a possible art experiment/wave like vaporwave did. Unfortunately, horror tards cannot restrain themselves from slopifying their projects by jamming in stupid, cliche metanarratives to bring it down from its experimental nature. You get SCP lore organizations, police detectives, ect ruining every. single. one.

The reason they ruin it is because they feel the need to make an "immersive" world which only serves to extend the project to the point where they could possibly merchandize it. It reached its apex of stupidity once the Urban Spook drama happened and you have these faggot loser analog horror projects with twitter accounts posting about how he is "doing horror wrong." It reads exactly as when redditors and women complain about celebrities "not having media training" when they go off script and don't do the HR/corporate approved song and dance.

This shit did not happen in vaporwave, which is why it was way more influential, artistically.

ROAM0120 is a short itch io point and click adventure game but the real photos give it an old-school creepypasta vibe ala Ted the Caver or whatever. The narrative being a personal account from the author furthers that feel.

It's got jumpscares though, but it is a fully completable game.

That's just every streamer nowadays. The video games are just a medium, all that streamers really do is entertain an audience for money.
It's why all of them are just doing dog tricks for their audience whenever someone throws money at the screen, the video game is secondary and they don't need to care about it, they just need to make sure the kids are using their parents credit cards.

Forbidden Solitaire is literally just a playable lost media creepypasta
Also crazy that nobody is mentioning Basilisk and Basilisk 2000 which are games made by KIRA (Spooky's House of Jumpscares dev) trying to larp as lost media games with some spooky shit in them. 2000 is a cooler concept because you basically explore the remains of a game that was never finished through its development tool although the dev for some reason decided that in the first hour of the game there should be an immersion-breaking location with a bunch of references to modern memes

Picrel is a vidya creepypasta I enjoy shilling in these threads. It's a long read but unlike all the "OMG THE NES IS HAUNTED BY HYPER REALISTIC DEMON MARIO BING BING WAHOO??? MORE LIKE HAIL SATAN" garbage it's a pretty "grounded" (until the ending) story with a gripping mystery and unlike JVK you actually DO reach a conclusion that reveals everything, although it ends up being a little bit silly

Old minecraft map a guy downloads while doing some "le old minecraft retrospective" video turns out to match a series of murders from early 2010s.
Not only that but thanks to the map (evidently made by the serial killer himself) he is able to find bodies of victims that police never located irl.

You know how a lot of phone games just don't work anymore? Like, even if they are on your account, they simply will not work on newer phones. It's happened to some of the most popular games on app stores, and countless more obscure ones.
I was going through my android library the other day and reminiscing on all the shitty early games there were. Games like 'Press this button for a random cartoon burp sfx' and that kind of garbage. The kind of thing you love when you're a stupid kid with a phone.
One of them was a real blast from the past. It was called Sir Chugsworth. It was one of those shallow pick what happens games. In it, you'd give a medieval knight, The Sir Chugsworth, various different drinks. Some would make him barf different colors, some would give him funny expressions, and so on. Me and my middle school friends loved giving him the 'Gay Cocktail' as we called it because he'd have prismatic barf, have rainbows come out of his nose, and have big glossy eyes, and make some gutteral belching noise. It wasn't particularly popular, having maybe a few thousand downloads.
It used to have an icon of the knight with a stereotypically drunk expression. I say used to because it was missing now. Not replaced with anything new or anything. Gone. It had a missing element box as its logo now.
>>
File: missing element.jpg (66 KB, 1920x1440)

>>749410446
I wanted to redownload it for old times, but the playstore outright told me that it was incompatible with my device. I don't know what possessed me, but for whatever reason, I wouldn't take no for an answer. I dug through my belongings to find an older phone and got it charging. After getting it all set up and signing into the playstore on it, I went back through library and found it again. When I tried to download it, I got another error, but it wasn't the same one. It said how I some features may not work as they normally would. Still not old enough for the genuine experience. I tapped accept, and finally, it worked.
Damn, I forgot how slow this thing was. Anyway, when it finished, I opened it up.
Just as the icon, there were missing element boxes all over. I pushed what I think was the start button and picked the spot I remembered being the Gay Cocktail.
More elements were missing. The animation was gone as was Sir Chugsworth, but not everything. I learned that day that the developer hadn't hand drawn anything at all. Instead, it had all been traced over a series of stills. I'm not going to describe what I saw, but I know deep down that it was disgustingly... real. I reported it to google and had it taken down. I'd have taken screenshots for proof, but I didn't think of it at the time. All that was going through my head was how an eleven year old me could have seen that and I shudder, wondering if someone's kid ever did.

None of them. Creepypastas used to be fun, creepy and spooky but all the porn addicts and zoomers with their shitty memes have completely ruined them.
They are the reason why it's so hard to actually make or find anything actual scary or creepy these days since it's going to be a big fucking joke in the end anyway with people just joking around about how much they wan't to get fucked by the monster or they wan't to fuck it but are actually totally serious about it or "what if DOOM guy meets this creature and fucks it over? Now that would be such funny heckin meme".

Mal0/SCP-1471-A also used to fucking scare the shit out of me years ago, especially the image attached but when you constantly see people sexualizing it and saying how much they wan't to fuck it, it just doesn't feel scary at all anymore. Now it just a huge sex sex sex joke all the time about this creature sneaking to a farm to get cumflated by a horse or coming to pleasure a lonely man at night.

If there's anything I hate about FRLG.ips, it's definitely that. It tries so hard to copy Toby's writing style at times, but doesn't quite get there. It's still a neat idea, but it basically boils down to "what if DR weird route in Pokémon but written by a complete amateur".

I do agree with you but i also think that some theories and the lore around Mal0 is pretty cute and also interesting.
It had one of the most creepiest images ever but was turned into some kind of creature that's just lonely.
What if it’s not stalking you maliciously? What if it’s just lonely, curious, protective, or oddly comforting instead of purely evil despite looking like it? It almost instantly makes you feel a lot more sympathetic towards it and images like that one no longer feel scary after it.

>I hate using this word, but its cringe as fuck
Having a teen girl in FRLG.ips tell you "CEASE :)" or having the sailor turn into a Sans clone, to the extent of going "I HATE YOU SO MUCH GRRRR hey wait a minute you can't move in conversations HAHAHA I TRAPPED YOU IN A CONVERSATION HAHAHAHAHA WAIT NOOOO NOOO DON'T STRIKE ME" is pretty fucking cringy yeah. It tries too hard to mimic these famous Toby moments without understanding why they work. Zero fucking build-up or subtlety.

I wanna share my own personal little story about Ben I posted a while ago.
I was actually, admittedly, a bit of a scaredy cat when I was younger. Couldn't much stand for horror stuff; didn't care for horror movies, but some of the stuff I saw on the internet unnerved me a little. Stuff like jumpscares/screamers and such always got me. Never went out of my way to look for them, which is why they hit harder when I came across them by accident.
But I had a particular avoidance to those things. You see, my mind is... pretty "active", as it were. Young kid. Hormones and youthful energy, am I right? Of course I'd have an active imagination.
But sometimes it'd work against me.
See, sometimes, every now and then in my childhood home, I'd have some trouble sleeping. There was this strange intense anxiety that hounded me sometimes, in the black of night, in my bedroom. I closed my eyes, turned my back from the door, and I felt like something was "watching" me. That was a constant enough feeling. Like they were just waiting for the right moment to do...something. Whatever that would be. But it wouldn't be then.
Wouldn't be now.
Just eventually.
As if whatever I made up was taunting me that it was there.
>>
>>749383869
jvk, training.bsp, NES Godzilla and The Princess are all good.
>>
>>749413229
>>749384053
And, well, sometimes when I came across stuff like creepy pasta, it made my imagination even more "active". I remember one time, I was looking along the Ben Drowned stuff. Might've been the first time, or at least a few times after I knew about it. Can't remember which.
It was night time. Using the computer in another room. Lights in the kitchen's off but the room's I was in was lit. There's a door to my left at the end of the room that's open to another room that's also lit. And I closed the BD stuff because it was getting to me, of course. But every now & then, just out of the corner of my eye, I swear I could see it.
The model of Ben.
In front of that doorway.
Of course, looking that way, there was nothing. But looking back at the PC, there he was.
In the corner.
Just looking.
Staring.
Standing.
As if it were fixated solely on me.
As if it knew that I knew I could see it.
And it was as if every time I looked back,
he was behind me instead.

Other anons said it already but it was the glut of mediocre to bad projects made by people who mistook cliches as genre foundations, VHS static (even when there's no good in-universe reason for it to be there), long face jumpscares heralded by a whole 5 seconds of all sound cutting out, the works.
When AH left the zeitgeist and people moved on to making horror series about the 2000s computers and internet I noticed there was a noticable drop in particularly bad uninspired series. I assume there is no solidified list of cliches for that type of series so people actually had to get creative again.

A lot of people bitched about Urbanspook when it came out but I honestly think it's stands out as one of the most interesting analog horror projects.
At least Urbanspook had some real moments of terror in it. the big issue with most analog horror is that they don't even try to be scary just cryptic bullshit most of the time that just feels like a rip off of The Mandela Catalogue.
>>
>>749414160
Nothing interesting about Urbanspook, beyond the last episode where it loops back on being retarded. The fact that is so cut and dry and intent on disturbing you, instead of spinning 20 fucking lore threads and meaningless characters and themes, is its greatest strength. It's a slasher film using superficial analog horror aesthetics.

I beat IMSCARED a while back as part of my spooky month marathon.
Genuinely terrifying, I had goosebumps the entire time. I feel kinda upset tbqh. She(it?) just didn't want to be alone, after all.

I liked it but felt like you skimped out on the juicy reveal.

It's really dumb to read about the creepypasta nowadays of kids wanting to kill themselves after listening to Lavender Town, but the song itself (the original gen 1 version) is still pretty creepy to me. I think people are exaggerating by calling it not scary at all just because of the creepypasta associated with it.

There's more to the game btw. Check the folder again, someone wants to meet you.

Original run is still the gold standard for videogame creepypasta even if it's a little quaint and dated now.
Using actual game footage with some basic gameshark codes for spoops adds a certain believability to the whole story most other stories of its era didn't really have. Up to a point it's actually fairly ambiguous if the game is actually haunted or if the author is just tweaking over a deep-fried broken cart.
Most pasta (and also games inspired by pasta) just try way too fucking hard.

I find mentally ill ramblings genuinely harrowing (picrel, search up Emma Hauck if you want to be depressed tonight) so I thought about making others feel the same by making a pasta about it. Someone who likes digging through freeware stumbles upon a game clearly made by someone disturbed, with the catch being that underneath all the schizophrenic nonsense there's indications something very bad is happening involving the game maker, but because it's so hard to understand you don't know what or how bad is it.

Here's the kicker anon. Mal0 is literally some girls fursuit and is fully happy with the reputation she has, her sona is actually named brainz and she approved of being used in the original story, so it is honestly completely in line for her to be turned into an SCP fuckdoll.

You might be interested in this game anon. Prolly one of the most unpleasant and disturbing games I've ever played. both due to the subject matter and the game being buggy as shit.

Why are deltafags obsessed with shoving themselves everywhere they can? The whole internet already knows your game exists.
