Steam Nextfest preview period is up:
https://store.steampowered.com/sale/nextfest_oct26_press/

Post stuff off your wishlist and whatever you find that seems decent, or make a million slop posts about there being too much slop.

Maybe later in the week or when the event starts proper there will be more good ones, but I don't have high hopes.

Posted it in the previous thread, but I ended up wishlisting Hemlon the grey even if what you play in the demo is nothing groundbreaking, it's a soulslike parryslop but less satisfying than in nine sols. Reminds me of Lost Ruins in that regard, if you've played that.

Just like Rain Of Lead, the game is unapologetically horny, and I always appreciate ecchi/cute pixel art.

Dungeon Automata/Algolemeth
>Will buy
https://store.steampowered.com/app/5095050/Dungeon_Automata_Demo/
Dungeon Automata/Algolemeth - Blueprint based programming dungeon drawler. Really fun if you like these kinds of games. It was awesome setting up my party at the end of the demo to steamroll through both floors in one go.

>Wishlisted
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4475210/Inkblood_Demo/
Inkblood - Detective game ala Case of the Golden Idol. Has physical puzzle solving in addition to deduction with a very cool artstyle. You ride around in a carraige and everything is very tactile and immersive which was one of my big complaints with CotGI. Definitely recommend trying.

>Interested
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3002010/Split_Decision/
Split Decision - Boxing judging sim/VN where many sides are leaning on you to have their fighter win. Unfortunately the demo is bugged for me.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4917610/Nightmere/
Nightmere - Phoenix Wright style detective game, psychological thriller. The hand drawn art is nice but the pixel art of the world leaves a lot to be desired. Started off kind of predictable but the end of the demo has enough interesting hooks that I want to see more.

NanoApostle (dark sci-fi/digitized(?) boss rush with cute little girl protagonist, good sprite art, a bit too short)

Thanks for shilling this, I'm having fun. MC looks like Sara Chidouin from YTTD. I like the pixel art for the sprites in the overworld, reminds me of the Danganronpa Another fangame sort of.

Let's show basic courtesy and respect toward each other, we anons love games. No need to make it harder to find gems amidst the demos when the AI flood and social media algorithms work against us.

Thank you for making the steam next fest fun to browse.

From now on only PS-aesthetic games can be posted cause I like those and I refuse to buy into the dichotomy that I have to choose between X or 1. I merely call it PlayStation. And I am right. Because I am right about everything.

Games can drop out right up until the actual public next fest date. So they can be in the dev/press preview multiple times.
And if you look back at a previous next fest (e.g. june) you will see games there even if they dropped out. I know because mine shows in the june press preview page even though I dropped out of that and will be part of this one instead.

Heres some games i played
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4735110/Your_Painting_Sir_Demo/
10/10 - Puzzle game about recreating paintings with newspaper cutouts

10/10
Good

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4652090/Stay_on_the_white_lines/
7/10 - japanese game about walking home from school
The demo is 2 minutes long, you can almost see a full playthrough in the trailer on the store page

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5039980/Chat_Should_We_Head_Over_There/
6/10 - Streamer girl reacts to your backseating and does what you tell her to. Works with or without LLM
Interesting, But English Voice acting is REALLY bad and UI is overly busy

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4920000/Beastfolk_Barber_Demo/
3/10 - Game about talking to furries while pretending to be a hairdresser
Really western writing and very little gameplay

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5034520/Captive_3000_Demo/
1/10 - Ai-infested dungeon crawler
Graphics are shit, gameplay is shit and its a browser game that somehow lost its way onto steam

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4424750/Moeka_Exposures_Temptation/
2/10 - Flash titties simulator
Too wonky right now to be enjoyable. Controls don't work half the time.

5/10 - Flash titties simulator Mk2

Yeah, my biggest complaint with Golden Idol is that it feels like you're an outside observer looking at these little dioramas. You're invested in learning the mystery but you're not a part of the world. In Inkblood imo, you actually feel like an investigator going to places, collecting and putting together clues to piece together what happened.
It's really cool, I like it a lot already and it's just three small cases

Shame the TL is still kinda jank, I enjoyed trials of innocence more than the 3D ace attorney games. Compared to yamazaki stuff the criminal organization actually kind of felt threatening. Final confrontation with the "annie device" against the mastermind was fun. A lot of aura farming moments, some plot contrivances that irked me at the time of the playthrough but fun experience nonetheless. I unironically think Luna did Edgeworth's character arc better

Not just gay but also pointless. Usually when game do durability it serves one of two purposes
>to keep the player on his toes with resource management - common for survival games
>to force the player use different weapons and that way keep the combat fresh - common for action games
This game has neither resource management nor action combat. And judging by the demo you have only one weapon so why even introduce such system?
>>
>>749431939
its fun
>>
>>749440512
Presumably for resource management. The sickle allows you to insta-stealth-kill the enemies. Otherwise, you have to push them into spikes or off cliffs, which is probably intended to be much riskier and can get you killed. But as it is now, it's just a more tedious way of getting rid of the non-threatening obstacles in a boring game.

I saw that Boom Buster's comin out on the 28th this month. At first I was happy cause I wishlisted that game almost two fuckin years ago. Then I learned about why it was releasing when it was. Turns out that even though they made a successful Kickstarter campaign where they got in excess of $70,000, they came up with another game and started developing it, it's called Buster Jam. So then they announced they were going to scale down Boom Buster to work on Buster Jam. As a silver lining, they plan to refund all their backers.

Can we just talk about upcoming and newly released indie games in general? I played so many and I'm gonna combust if I can't spread the word about the ones I played.

Turnip Mountain - twin stick climbing action.

Night Hazard (Demo) - 3D low-poly hack 'n' slash. Combat feels pretty basic, but hopefully the game will evolve as it goes on.

Acrolyte (Demo) - a visually impressive 2D adventure game in the vein of Metroid with twin stick keyboard controls. Takes some getting used to, the demo's over an hour long.

Airframe Ultra (Demo) - I think from the map shown in the tutorial that this game's gonna function as both a racing game and a battle arena game. From the Rain World devs. Controls took about twenty minutes to get used to.

Antivirus Survivors 2003 Professional - another bullet heaven game inspired by Vampire Survivors, but with enough going on and a great presentation to be its own thing.

Bad Pixels - a VERY low-poly FPS mission-based campaign, with visuals and sounds based on the Commodore 64. Early access.

I thought about getting Well Dweller cause it's a Metroidvania, but after seeing gameplay it looks boring. Don't know why it's scored so high.

The whole game's out now. It's frustrating at points because it's tough to flick the twinsticks at the same time for a jump, the timing is very tight. Otherwise you fling yourself way out to either side. Thank god the controls can be un-inverted. It's probably only ten levels but I'm okay with that.

Also gotta honk the horn for Zexion, this amazing Metroid like game that came out in March last year and only has 500 reviews even though it's now easily in my top 5. It's so fuckin good. It's hard, but good.

Some games end up being not worth trying out even if they look good (to you), and some games are definitely 100% worth trying out even if they don't look appealing (to you) at first glance. This is why feedback and reviews are helpful, people with similar tastes to yours might (and often will) relate to your experience if you go into a little detail.
Which will either save them time (not playing the demo) or give them a new gem they would've otherwise missed. (playing the demo)

An example I find relevant to illustrate what I mean is the demo of the game HINO:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3946090/HINO/

I knew watching the trailer it was going to be a slower paced platformer, but figured why not since I liked the "japanese horror/cutesy" aesthetic. What I didn't expect was the sheer amount of handholding during the exploration or puzzle solving, cutscene interruptions, and ultimately the janky combat during the boss fight. It's closer to a walking sim designed for children. Still a very cute game, my sister enjoyed watching me playing it, but I wouldn't recommend it to people like me who (erroneously) thought it would be more challenging, don't take control from the player as often and focused on creepy atmosphere.

There is a whole world of survival horror out there. Dead of Darkness 2 was just announced. It is not even 3D, just isometric but it leaps and bounds ahead of his first game which was nothing more than basic RPG maker stuff. The developer is getting better. That is nice to see.

I got a real kick out of the first Dead of Darkness because they straight up shot the villain in the head during his evil monologue. Lots of games and movies mock the monologue but they still let the villain do the monologue even if they make fun of the trope. Hardly anyone had the balls to say "nah fuck you asshole rot in your grave I don't care why you did it."

That is what indie games are supposed to be about. Do the stuff big corporate studios won't. Alas a lot of the time they take the copying too far. Copy the gameplay, it is fine, Resident Evil gameplay was pretty perfect, but make your own story.

>The idea is that you try the games out yourself.
True. The problem? There are more demos than you have time to actually try, even if you dedicate every day to playing demos fulltime, you won't actually have time to play them all.

So in these threads we curate demos for each other. And to help people make more informed decisions, we actually try to, at least briefly review the demos we share in the threads.
And you can maybe claim that's unnecessary. But there are still retards, or literal shills, sharing genuine bottom of the barrel garbage. And with nothing more elaborate to describe the experience of the demo, you can't really tell. Without trying the demo. Which means you lost the time you needed to try a likely much more preferable demo.

>>
>>749457373
Seems like your whole premise is based on the notion that "shills" cannot post a favourable game review and are only capable of posting links for some reason.

In reality, a shill is more likely to attempt to sell you on the game since their job is that of a salesmen. People with no stake in the matter either way just leave a link and call it a day.

But anyway, this is a tradeshow, man. People try to sell you things at a tradeshow. It is the whole point. Seething about shills makes no goddamned sense.

>Seems like your whole premise is based on the notion that "shills" cannot post a favourable game review and are only capable of posting links for some reason.
No. But provided the reviews aren't just full of fucking lies, they still help you tremendously with self-selecting and filtering what demos you try.
Even if you're communicating with a straight up shill.

Links with no context though? Shill or not, you're blind to whether the demo is garbage or nothing to your interests.
>But anyway, this is a tradeshow, man. People try to sell you things at a tradeshow. It is the whole point.
Yeah. Which is why in literal tradeshows, shills actually try to sell you their products. They don't just leave their booths unattended for people to window shop without context.

I did filter the games.
Many games these days have numerous features, and Valve's tag system only uses like 3 to 5 tags, so it doesn't filter out all the games I'm not interested in.
There's just that many damn games.
Even if there's a game that looks neat, the level designs are usually empty blocky test maps, and that sucks.

I was excited for it because of the original teaser the creative lead put out https://youtu.be/T2K2Dksi40s , but I was kind of worried since on the kickstarter it said it was the guy's first time making a game... but I just played the demo a few mins ago and it was fun. There was some good variety in how the level design played with the magnet ball ability, and the teaser showed at least one minigame/puzzle type that wasn't even in the demo (the selection-box thing), so I'm more confident now that they have enough material to make a full game without running out of ideas and padding it out.

Also full economy.
>>
Apparently, Steam does not have a maximum time limit for release date. You can set your release date to 2050 and Valve will allow it. HOWEVER, Steam does not like games that change their release date often, which is probably why many devs which have games that look almost done set their release date to 2028, even if they actually have an earlier release in mind, because that way they'll only have to change their release date once.
Reason why a dev should care about this is because of the algorithm. Steam just forgets about "Coming Soon" games after a while.

TL;DR: 2028 games are not an automatic scam.

If Claude can copy your game in 3 days, just from an image, then it was never worth anything to begin with. Claude could never properly copy Factorio just from a screenshot and have it actually work, the only thing it can repolicate easily is slop made by humans e.g. deckbuilders, vampire survivors, walking simulators.

Claude has access to the actual files of those. Not just an image.

Did one easy run and died, lol.
Pretty fun for a prototype. Reminds me of Exanima but action focused. Needs more variety in everything. Different enemies, mini and not mini bosses, different attacks such as piercing dash, sword spin, jump with an AOE crush landing, etc.
Obviously needs sounds and music.
>>
>>749497303
Also, a hammer weapon that will make a satisfying *dunk* on landing a hit.
>>
>>749497303
Thanks for playing, I appreciate it!
Yes, variety is on it's way, I actually cut a lot of features for the demo, a boss and a medium enemy. More combos is not a bad idea though, I'll take note of that, thanks.

>>749497353
A hammer is my next weapon in the pipeline! Ever since I played Warhammer Online, two hand hammers has been my favorite. That weapon will crush/smash the enemies instead of slicing them.
>>
Oh, and a negative feedback. The dash is very unpredicatable and has a will of its own. Half of the time it throws me in a direction I wasn't pressing/moving to.
>>
>>749497642
It's actually meant to be a dodge but I fucked the anims up just before releasing the demo...
>>
File: 1652060564008.jpg (100 KB, 1024x768)

>>749497591
On a second thought. Since it's not a diablo type of game combos may take away from it's main feature - physics based weapon swinging. So instead of spamming various combos undermining the swinging a better idea would be to give each weapon a special attack:
sword - piercing dash
mace - spin
hammer - jump with an AOE crush landing
That way the focus will stay intact and each weapon will have its own identity and a little bit of its own playstyle.
>>
>>749497983
Weapons will define the playstyle, instead of character classes. So it'll be more, how do you like to kill your enemies? Slice, splash, or...? I might be working on a flame throwing wizard.. and an archer with piercing arrows instead of wide slashes. I do like your idea of more defining finishes at the end of combos, that could help define it even more since visibility is a bit hard at the moment.
>>
>>749497983
cont:
And to keep players from spamming it either add a cd or make it rechargable with blood/kills.
>>
>>749498265
I've thought about that and I'd rather go the route of throwing more enemies at the player than having cooldowns. I can spawn up to 300 enemies at the same time as of now.
>>
>>749494985
This isn't ready for Next Fest. Keep the demo up, get feedback, keep working on your game, but pull out of this Next Fest and don't enter until you're almost ready to launch.
You get ONE chance to get as many eyeballs on it as possible and this is lacking way too much polish.
For actual feedback:
Bones of the game feel good, it's fun mowing through hordes of goblins
There needs to be way more variety, more enemies, more weapons, more attacks, more things to pick up in the dungeons, etc.
Need a main menu and brief tutorial explaining controls. Prompts in front of interactable like the bounty board. An arrow indicating that you're supposed to lift up the bounty, etc. I like how immersive it is but you have to account for people not experimenting their first time playing. You don't want them to quit before even getting to the combat.
The damage flash effect looks very amateurish, I'd look at how other games do it and try to copy that.
Hard to tell what's a death pit and what's progression. I assumed since we go into a dungeon through a pit that the next similar looking pit would go to the next level, but no it was just death.
Need death screen instead of just kicking you back to the tavern, maybe put some stats up too.

All in all, a lot of potential but you got a long way to go to get there.
>>
>>749498636
Thanks for the honest feedback, I agree with most things, variety in general, absolutely.
Death pits are meant to take you to a sub level if you fall in, but not in the demo.
I really wanted to try without overexplaining things, like arrows, or UI and such. I know it's lacking, but might not give up entirely on the idea yet though.
A lot of valid points, I hear what you're saying and you're not wrong. I'll see what I'll do.
>>
>>749499421
>I really wanted to try without overexplaining things, like arrows, or UI and such. I know it's lacking, but might not give up entirely on the idea yet though.
I get it, but you're going to have to balance your vision with accessibility (aka retards buying your game). You can do something like prompts showing up the first time then fading away afterwards, kind of like how Rain World shows you the basic controls in the first couple of screens and then never tells you them again (and doesn't teach you the advanced controls either, you just have to figure it out)
