They used to do it 20 years ago). Sqex didn't have to put in effort to create a new world, art assets, compositions, engine, or any of the other things that made these games stand out. Put Live-A-Live, DQ3HD, Elliot, and FF and ask any individual if they are part of the same IP and many would think so. Square shouldn't be awarded for something they put together in a few months with college hires and an asset library. Square used to be cutting edge once upon a time, you know? It wasn't because hurr turn-based. 90% of the rpgs from their prime were fucking turn-based, but Final Fantasy always outshined every other IP. Why? It wasn't because of the fucking ATB that's for sure.
