First i zoom out a lot (like at 10-20% size) both the ref and the workspace to place just some basic color/lights values with rough brushes.Then i zoom in, adding progressively more and more details and texture at the same time. I try to work on only one layer except for some exceptions (like the blue artefact and light on pic 3 that i put on a different layer cuz gradient are a bitch to keep clean otherwise). But as soon as i’m satisified with something I flatten it.I try to paint the textures and effect at the same time at the rest, even if it means erasing it here and there in the next steps. I realised that doing a textureless pic and just adding it as multiply/overlay/anything else is actually less clean and I like the end result a lot less.Software i use is clip studio for the custom brush options but anything could do the trick. Even sai if you’re a bit more patientMy goal with these is to focus on lighting and ambiance , not details, so I force myself to stop after 2hours top. Last pic took me 1h30.Don’t hesitate to experiment, especially with textured brushes. I had ’’happy accidents’’ that I ended up loving that were completely unplanned.Hope that helps
