I don't get why he couldn't have just made a Theme style game without the retarded snide political commentary in it. Two Point Hospital does, but you can also actually make a functional hospital that helps people in spite of it. Here there is one win condition: make people reliant on cars, have loads of pollution, and use the government to silence dissent. There is no "happy middle ground" which is what we actually have. If you want to move to a city where there's no car usage, you can pick up and move.

Look into New Urbanism, it's basically white people going "why can't we have cities but just white people are allowed?" And even then it just turns into a corny parody of a city, because the only walkable environments encounter are college campuses and amusement parks. That's what it ends up feeling like.

A car means the state can't decide how you move, when, and where. As long as you have one you'll never be a slave.

IDK where u live OP but taking public transit is always better in black-adjacent areas because if you drive and park it outside they'll just break into your car and steal your shit. And homeless bums will run onto the street without any notice too either panhandling or trying to do some insurance fraud bullshit and they WILL block your car. Another great thing about driving is all of the fucking retards swerving through traffic in plateless cars who WILL just drive off if they hit you, half of whom do not speak English and the other half of whom are gangster wannabes looking for any reason to start a confrontation. You people can't handle the truth!

Ask the leftists who group together multiple different attitudes to different areas of policy that harm each other.
>>
My question is: How deep is the game in these areas:

1. Business
Do you need to plan anything? Do you need to think strategically to win? Do you have to consider things like not growing too fast, not building too much, not acquiring too much land because of taxes, etc.?

2. Customization
How customizable is the game? Can I create unique things like in Rollercoaster Tycoon? Can I put up signs with the phrases I want and rename things? Do the maps take on my "personality" after I create them?

3. Mechanics
Are the game’s mechanics complex? Will different elements interact and generate interesting outcomes? Can unique things emerge if I decide to do things in an unconventional way?

Cars unironically did this. You can bus the drug addicts out of the cities and into outlying neighborhoods now. You basically become cattle without a way to independently move yourself. At any moment they could hike the price of public transportation, bar you from it, dismantle it, etc. Roads will always be present in a society and cars can go off it if they really needed to. The simple ability to drive yourself whenever you want means you can quickly get anywhere connected to the same network. Walkable cities, other than going counter to aforementioned values, also make a city smaller. They encourage people to live in unowned blocks and walk around everywhere. They also let things like pavement apes that can't drive reach into every place you could ever go. It is like a form of radical equitarian city policy and is as destructive long term. It is like asking what being hobbled has to do with living with an abusive person. Public transportation only works in an extremely high trust society like Japan where the government is too afraid of disrupting social cohesion to screw people over.
>>
>>749435291
>everyone before Henry Ford was cattle

>>
>>749432307
Chicken and egg type problem. The car dependent society was in full swing by the early 1970s, long before there were problems with drug addicts and homeless in public transport. That car dependence left public transport underfunded and most wealthier people no longer using it which THEN attracted homeless and drug addicts, especially since public transport now only remained in the poorest neighborhoods.

Best seen in countries were there is still a lot of reliance of public transport: if a lot of regular people use it, then druggies and homeless won't really be much of a problem in it. Essentially if a lot of regular people use it, then undesirables don't feel attracted to it, only after it has been abandoned by politics do the homeless and drug addicts appear.

It's a supply/demand problem. The demand is a demand for mobility, which was construed to a demand for cars, which is NOT the same. A demand for cheap transport can also be met with public transport and bikes, it depends on the individual. Because only cars are now an option to meet the demand for transport, the supply doesn't REALLY meet the demand, which is why the price for the demand of transport just keeps climbing and climbing. (Look at how the average price for new cars has exploded, or the prices of ticket fares. Or the prices for toll roads). It also affects housing prices because roads being clogged by space inefficient cars makes housing close to where you work FAR more valuable. The smoother the traffic the less of a requirement to live close to work. Public transport and bike friendliness makes traffic smoother and thus reduces housing costs.

The only reason public transport is associated with the homeless is that our public transport systems have been gutted in favor of cars. So only the desperate will still use them.
In countries with good public transport they don't have this problem. Everyone uses it, so the trains are full of normies, creating safety in numbers.
>>
>>749435916

What I find interesting about anti-public transport guys is that they think they’ll be forced to ride a train. You can still use a car bro. There’s just going to be less traffic on the road.
>>
>>749436048
Americans will also regularly travel and hour or more at irregular hours to visit family, go shopping, work, etc. Public transport would eat up so much time and would have to be very multifaceted in order to service all the wide varieties of trips. Maybe a network of bullet trains could solve some of this, but it'd require a lot of funding and also getting around shit like unions and embezzlers who get in the way of most American infrastructure advancement.

>>
We already settled this issue
Europeans are angry that Americans don't have to ride the bus with black/brown people and they do. They want Americans to adopt public transportation so that we too are forced to sit with brown and black people on a bus for hours a day every day
>>
>>749436258
The point isn't to eliminate cars entirely, but to reduce their usage. If we could cut car trips in half we could reclaim half of all parking lots for new construction and families could sell their 3rd car.
>>
>>749432307
>the danger of the homeless/drug addicts on public transport
I like driving too, but your chances of dying in a car crash are significantly higher than your chances of getting assaulted by a bum for doing the same exact trip. Not once did I get assaulted on an NYC subway every time I'm in the city.
.t bus to LIRR to college/uni for 4 years and now 16 years of 5 days a week work
>>
>>749436689
Its kind of a false premise thougheverbeitfully. People do not want to live in the city. People do not want to ride the bus. Even in making the city walkable, people don't want to live there. When I worked in a metro I was willing to drive 45 minutes one way every single day because I did not want to live there. There was no element of "Aww shucks if only the traffic was better I'd totally live in this shithole"
>>
>>749436868
There's plenty of "town centers" in the US where people live and walk. The problem is racial minorities. It's the ugly truth.

Game is alright but it definitely feels a little bit lacking in things to "do" compared to something like RollerCoaster Tycoon. I know it's in early access but what it currently offers feels like too little for its start.
The graphics and sounds are definitely on point though. Everything feels satisfying to use in that regard.

It reminds me of how a lot of countries are too poor to have suburbs, leaving their middle class disenfranchised and insecure. I can't imagine not living in a society where a family can move into a nice sized house with a plot of land.

>>749434828
1. There is upkeep on buildings, but generally money rolls in so fast it is a non-issue. I'm sure this is going to get reduced in the future. As it stands, the best thing to do is immediately buy up all the high-value property at the start of a scenario and just become a land baron collecting rent.

As far as strategy, you can't immediately bulldoze everything without creating a shitload of protestors and vandals, so you do want to be at least a little strategic with how you demolish and build.

2. There's a decent amount of customization right now. You can place billboards, trees, adjust colors, rename things specifically. I'm sure more stuff will get added eventually.

3. Ultimate goal is to build parking garages. I guess the most novel challenge would be trying to keep the city clean and relatively un-polluted while fulfilling mission objectives. Again, becoming a rent baron is probably the most novel way to deal with mechanics.
