1. The elevator isn't at the top of Earthen Peak. It's about halfway up.2. DS2's areas are abstracted in distance. They're not contiguous like DS1. You are traversing an entire continent and beyond it.

I replayed ds2 with my friend with seamless coop and the only truly horrible part was the shrine of amana, they really thought we need 3 sections of this bullshit.

>>749465952Realistically, what probably happened was a miscommunication between different parts of the development team. The team that designs the areas are different from the guys that actually creates them. There's files showing Iron Keep in the background of Earthen Peak, so it's apparent that the issue is that the miscommunication came from one team interpreting the other team's direction, which is along the lines of "You take a lift up to the IK," as "The player takes a lift vertically into to the IK" instead of the player taking a conveyer horizontally from EP > IK. It's possible that testers even noticed this discrepancy and reported, but it was found too late into the development cycle to change it from an elevator to a conveyer, with its own skybox and everything so the player can see the transition from stage A to stage B in a way that doesn't look weird.
