I liked both games but the first one at the end of the game gets filled with SO many enemies that they will not leave you alove for one damn second. In that aspect the second one made that better: you had different areas, each one with one level of enemy attrition. So if you wanted to kill a lot of soldiers you were to that location, and if you wanted a chill massacre of humans you went to the area with no enemies.
