As long as I have been in the gaming industry I constantly saw people making tons and tons and tons of games focused entirely on dwarves, there must be thousands out there. I think first of all this a big problem, for me the gaming industry was supposed to be about inovation, trying new things, taking risks,... All those games on dwarves are essentialy the exact same thing, the same themes, there is nothing new, interesting or even remotely fun for someone not obsessed with dwarves, most to be frank are very very bad.My explanation is that it's very easy and cheap to make games on dwarves, so lots of people will make them. But those games aside from very very few of them sell very poorly and fail which does make sense because not only do you appeal to dwarf fans only and no one else, and this is a very loud and annoying but not so big fandom, but dwarf fans themselves won't buy dozens of games a month, they may pick a few and ignore the rest. And again those games never offer anything else aside from dwarves so most people would have no reason to pick them up.I just wonder who those games are supposed to be for anyway? I see many people being sick and tired of this sea of dwarven slop and making their voices heard on top of not buying or even looking at those games, yet game devs seems to live on another world and keep making them. I'm glad ease and repetitive games are not paying off, this is how it should be, now how to make game devs realize this so they can start doing games that are a bit inovative and interesting. On a sidenote while we get thousands of games on dwarves I cannot find any games on elves, while they are far more interesting and I feel a lot could be done with them, while it would indeed be more complicated than making simple dwarven games. Still there is a demand and they would sell well for sure, so why does no one jump in on this occasion?"
I fully agree, that's the main reason i started to give up on indie games too. Turns out many big games nowadays are trying new and daring things and indie games are the ones constantly pushing more dwarf themed games. For me it ruins the whole industry. And yeah the fact nobody looks or buy these games add another weird layer to it, most people are clearly not interested, I very rarely meet people who like dwarves online too. Yet that doesn't seem to stop these people from making the same kind of games year after year. And as a huge fan of elves it also makes me sad they get zero content in the gaming industry, again big studios give them a lot of love, stories and more but I never found a single indie game that had elves at the center and man do I see a LOT of people asking for this on youtube for example.
I never understood that, but this isn't going to end I fear, more people complain about this issue online sure but nobody is buying these games anyway, most people just shrug them off. It seems like a failed strategy at this point and makes no sense, I saw a guy who was making another game on dwarves, nothing original or interesting just the most basic and lazy game and he was so excited about it thinking everyone had a dwarf fetish like him. As expected maybe five people bought his game and that was it and he lost a lot of money and can't make games anymore. But if one of these many people stumble here I'd like to see them explain their choices
>beer, building shit, getting richIt lets you make a game centered around white culture without activists losing their shit
>>749488543> All those games on dwarves are essentialy the exact same thing> it's very easy and cheap to make games on dwarves> I see many people being sick and tired of this sea of dwarven slop and making their voices heardWhat the fuck are you talking about> I cannot find any games on elves, while they are far more interestingOh I see, you're just a faggot
>>749488543I'd say the reasons elves are intersting makes it difficult to represent them in a game.In a book you can just "say" that elves are great, show of a couple of examples and the reader will just keep that feeling with him for the rest of the book.In a game, you would just see the elven city and people and while you can try to make them more impressive looking, there is no way you can actually create thousands of years worth of culture to trully show off why a society of long lived intelligent beings would be amazing.>>749492020please consult the chart.>inb4 luddite moans

>>749493705I dont care if its ai its just impossible to read
>>749494208for a human perhaps
Its funny because most of the comparisons of Dwarves to jews comes from Tolkien, he used Hebrew as the basis of the rune alphabet and how they are culturally. Before that in german or scandinavian tales Dwarves would be short, crafty, and horribly greedy. I understand why you confuse the two.
>>749488543>As long as I have been in the gaming industry I constantly saw people making tons and tons and tons of games focused entirely on dwarves, there must be thousands out there.Name 5 that aren't Dwarf Fortress.
>>749488543They seem like a really easy fit for a game that consists of building shit, mining for resources, etc. Everything from the standard RTS to survival slop can easily become something fantasy by making your main character dwarves. They mind shit, build shit, and then build castles.. It's their thing. On the other hand Elves to not easily fit right into a standard game model. What is an elf game? A typical adventure but with more nature and magical stuff? A Farming sim but in a deep forest? what standard game model can you switch out the cast for elves and have it work without needing to much explanation?
>>749494682I'm pretty sure the runes in Tolkien's runic alphabet are just actual scandiavian runes very slightly changed.
>>749495305why not use humans instead of dwarfs? Not to mention all games on dwarves are the same, with always the same boring themes and nothing new or interesting. Not to mention that those games only appeal to big dwarf fans, the average gamer wouldn't care about those games. As for elves they actually have potential for interesting and good quality games, look at anime like Frieren or "The Journey of a Dark Elf with Fading Powers" who can tell great and deep stories using elves. Also elves can build cities and fight too, not to mention they have some amazing cities design and can use all sorts of magic and stuff. You could play as savage wood elves a bit like early night elves defending your forest from intruders and having the forest itself as your allie. Play as a thousand years old elf warrior with immense powers and defeat hordes of enemies on your own,... The potential is there but making a game on elves is indeed more difficult than making some mining slop on dwarves.

>>749498152to be honest I don't remember what tolkien runes look like. where are they even shown in the books?
>>749498227
>>749498297in the back of the books they appear in, doubly so if you have the collector's edition or an omnibus set. in hobbit the map uses dwarven runes but using English phonetic reading instead of Dwarven language.
>>749498297You have to get the verison of the books with pictures in them. I was pulling up a pic of Durins Gate but thats elvish so idk.
>>749498459>>749499823Yeah I dunno, looks like nordic runes to me. I get that hebrew has the 3 dots but so does arabic and a few other languages. And even then the dots are a minor addition.
