Have you ever beaten a game (or gotten very far in it) without knowing a key mechanic?
I got halfway through my High Elf campaign in TW2 before i found out you can give commands while the game is paused.

I beat Riviera without knowing you could switch positions in battle.
Elden Ring was my first Fromsoft game and I made it to the evil red area without ascending my weapon or whatever.
First time I played Earthbound I hadn't played a JRPG before so I got to Summers with just basic attacking, no items or PSI powers.

Speaking of Witcher I played about half of Witcher 3 before realizing the potions replenish on mediation.
In the tutorial it took a lot of resources to make the basic healing potion so I simply refused to use it until something really difficult came along. Turns out it was expensive because that was the upfront cost and Geralt is very proficient in homeopathy.

I recently got pretty far into Blade of darkness: Severance on controller until I got btfo'd by a boss.
Not knowing you can apparently not execute many combos that way as you need to input several opposite directions for stronger moves.

I beat Metal Gear Rising on Hard mode my first time through without knowing how to parry. It's very silly in retrospect, but I remember the game says to push the control stick "in the direction of the attack." I took that to mean if the enemy was swinging their right hand (Raiden's left), then I needed to push left to parry. It didn't work so I just stopped bothering and used Defensive Offense through the whole game.
>>
>>749493428
I beat him without parry too but I meant the zandatsu for finishing him.

>>
>>749493643
Like I said, Defensive Offense. It took a lot of close timing and I spent a few more hours than I should have beating the game overall. Subsequent playthroughs on harder difficulties were actually a lot easier because I realized how to parry but could already beat the game just by dodging.
>>
>>749491175
I never learned how the combat in Batman Asylum worked. I just brute forced my way through the game until the final boss where that didn't work and you had to do the combat properly.
Witcher 3 mutagens, didn't know how they worked until I beat the game. When I replayed the game again later is was way easier once I used mutagens.

In Ratchet and Clank Future tools of destruction I didn't know that you could lock-onto enemies and strafe. I thought you had to manually aim every weapon and move the camera to look at enemies manually. It made dodging a pain too. I only found out early in newgame+ in the area where I was probably supposed to find out the first time. I remember thinking "ahh that's why the game seemed pretty difficult".

First time I played Doom 2016 on nightmare difficulty I didnt realise that one of those grenades can heal you.
In Doom Eternal, I for some reason assumed that grenades share cooldowns so you can either pick a frag or a frost one. Half way into the game I realised I can drop them one after another.
I dont watch gameplay or playthroughs and I almost never look at guides so shit like this happens to me fairly often. Its almost like an accidental extra challenge.

I played nioh 2 up to some bullshit difficulty level where you were just upgrading green gear into +whatever. I guess it doesn't really count, but I almost beat the game entirely by using summons instead of doing anything else, but you cannot beat the final boss this way so I stopped there. I was too lazy to play in any other way, if it works it works.

The hacking in those games are so fucking dumb. It's typical Bethesda low effort.
When I first played F3 I thought that you only got one shot at hacking so I really thought about my choices and options. I didn't even consider the possibility that you could just exit the hacking when you had one guess left, immediately start hacking again and have all your guesses back. If there's no drawback to trying again and again then what's the point? It's not even as if you're spending time doing it, the game freezes while you hack.
The fact that they didn't change anything about it in F4 just shows how little they care. "Good enough" seems to be their goal.
