It has better gameplay and story than the original, which is all that matters for a video game. The original does have better atmosphere though.

I'm playing the original now. The remake is a lot better.

The game is responsive, smooth, and there are bunch of different playstyles you can go with. Having to stop completely in order to aim and shoot is absolute aids, if you want to talk about unresponsive slop that is it.
