I drank the Kool-Aid for a decade before realizing
I didn't like chuck greene
>>749516439You can't unsee how cobbled together it is if you've played original 2 beforehand. How Frank's dialogue doesn't quite match with his movement in the more energetic cutscenes because he's reusing Chuck's animations, how little content Uranus Zone has and that's after some of the OG sidequests were moved to it, how much less sense it makes for the Phenotrans agent to be "Stacey" over Sullivan, and how certain things seemed to be made either easier or harder seemingly randomly. It's cool that it exists, and it's definitely worth a playthrough, but yeah it should always be a 2 + OtR combo, never just playing the latter or believing it to be the overall superior way to experience 2's setting, mechanics and plot.
>>749516439Yes but you do not have to found the hidden zombrex dose, no one have time to explore the world in a open world game
>>749516439It keeps best girl Rebecca alive so it automatically wins in my book.
>>749516439what's the best one then
>>749517358Will forever be DR1
>>749516439Storywise, yeah, but gameplay wise it improves on DR2's sandbox. DR2 already shit the bed with the writing part, so might as well go all in with the shlock.
>>749517005>match with his movementname an example because I cannot think of what you could be even referring to.>over SullivanA glowie/corpo infiltrates an organization to become its leader of sorts, handpick the most gullible/extremist dumbfuck so he is present in Fortune City when they organizes their little protest there so Tyrone can coax him to do the deed as planned. Biggest organization collapses from bad press. Subterfuge 101.>harderonly thing harder is that survivors get grabbed more often, and DR2 is fucking piss easy to the point where it may as well have been DR3/4 in terms of how much of a non factor survivors are.
>>749517358dead rising 2
>>749516439It is. Chucky Greene is 10x better than overrated Frank.
>>749516439The Chuck fight is worth playing but you kind of have to play 2 to appreciate it

>>749518004>name an examplehttps://youtu.be/XxTt_s5RmV0?t=1197https://youtu.be/pKRzOto21VU?t=2263>Subterfuge 101Original: Chuck finds himself framed for an outbreak he had no part in causing, so he investigates for evidence to clear his name, stumbling upon a conspiracy involving the pharmaceutical company who distributes the zombie virus suppressant causing outbreaks to simultaneously harvest the main ingredient for said suppressant and drive up demand for their product. Once he finds evidence backing up his claim, the pharmaceutical agent they had planted to be the head of security in the area of the major outbreak they had been planning, who had been antagonistic and denying of their evidence the whole time and kept trying to get them to back off, kills the reporter currently contacting their news station about the conspiracy and attempts to kill the others before being forced to retreat. TK was directly involved in the conspiracy plot because of the use of his zombie supply and his own plans to make away with Fortune City's money so he could be set for life.OtR: Frank investigates a conspiracy involving the framing of the leader of CURE so he could "get back in the game" because he became a fat drunkard after Willamette. Upon uncovering pretty much the exact same conspiracy as the original game, aside from knowing who directly caused the outbreak, it's revealed that the leader of CURE, the one that was framed for the outbreak by the pharmaceutical company, turns out to be an agent for said pharmaceutical company that caused the outbreak, making it so the person giving Frank leads to uncover the conspiracy turns out to be directly part of said conspiracy. It's almost like she wanted to be found out.
>>749518004>only thing harder is that survivors get grabbed more oftenThey made mercs and looters more annyoing, added the Harvester section near the end to pad the runtime with the guns that make you vomit + gas zombies all around you, and moved certain items to bizarre locations that makes you wonder why they even bothered, like the safehouse's fire axes. Same place, just moved to a slightly different hallway. Why. Same with survivors, some were moved around without much reason for it. Like the CEO dude robbing from ATMs being moved from the Slot Ranch Casino interior to the Shamrock Casino exterior in the Strip. Or the very last survivors you can rescue in the entire game, the two soldiers, going from having their own handcrafted barricade smack right in the middle of Fortune Park and ordering you to drop all firearms before approaching, to being put right outside the Yucatan so you encounter then as you leave Boykin's arena which is when they trigger, straight up being dropped on your path and not caring for whatever firearms you carry. Again: why?
>>749518858>making it so the person giving Frank leads to uncover the conspiracy turns out to be directly part of said conspiracy. It's almost like she wanted to be found out.NPCs do not know that they are in a video game and that they are dealing with the protagonist. The type of situations Stacy send Frank/Chuck are>surf through hundreds of zombies to save that one guy I totally saw in security feed>stop bank robberies against fuckers with guns>chase after a train full of soldiers with guns on a motorcycle in a zombie infested railway>psychopaths that have everything from guns to a pink chainsawYou may as well say she is purposefully sending the protagonist out to die."why can't Stacy-Sullivan just pop them in the head when convenient instead"Frank's desperate for that big scoop, Chuck's desperate to clear his name and both rarely fuck around in the safehouse unless required in the case of Chuck. Furthermore, they do just shoot them and the rest of the survivors in one of the bad endings.>>749518912All of it so minor it is barely worth bringing up as an observation let alone as any qualifier for whether it makes a game better/worse.I couldn't care less that the Defiler takes one extra step. Combo weapons are still too easy to manufacture on the spot anyways instead of requiring any prep work like drink mixes in the first game. Go build anything else.
>>749520430>NPCs do not know that they are in a video game and that they are dealing with the protagonistNo, instead she knows she's dealing with Frank West, the journalist that told the world wide about zombies for the first time, the major survivor of the first outbreak, a dude that runs around with a camera taking pictures of everything and has singlehandedly rescued dozens of people in less than three days. Sure "Stacey", keep telling him where to go and what you see in those cameras.>surf through hundreds of zombies to save that one guy I totally saw in security feedMaybe you should change your plan by the 7th time he comes back alive and with more info on what's going on.>stop bank robberies against fuckers with gunsMaybe you should change your plan by the 4th time he comes back alive and with more info on what's going on.>chase after a train full of soldiers with guns on a motorcycle in a zombie infested railwaySure didn't stop him.>psychopaths that have everything from guns to a pink chainsawMaybe you should change your plan by the 18th time he comes back alive no worse for wear.>Stacy-SullivanI don't give a shit about Sullivan, because he works. Stacey is the one giving you info in both games, only in 2 she does so because she's genuinely trying to help and wants the same thing Chuck wants, while in OtR she's actively shooting herself in the foot constantly.>All of it so minorA plethora of minor changes are precisely what ultimately make OtR the inferior version of the two.
>>749516439I'll never play this shit because of the stupid timer.
>>749516439wait a new thread in a week and ill tell you, i haven't replayed OtR since 2012 and right now im about to finish my first run of DR 2, gonna do a second one to max level chuck and attempt to save all survivors fuck doing zombie genocide master, the reward isn't even that great
>>749521329Good news anon, OP version of the game got a free roam mode its boring
>>749521093>Maybe you should changeMaybe they should've made a new game but they obviously didn't because a) the game is a cash grab b) if you're a tinfoil hat wearer a test bed to see if they should just discard everything involved with vanilla 2 for a new Frank West canon>he worksIt doesn't work for Sullivan since he is letting both Stacy and Chuck fuck around instead of capping both in the head upon seeing the news, or kicking them out of the safehouse while they are trying to uncover shit especially if you're going to argue >shooting herself in the footIt's a shitty (Japanese) video game twist reveal in both cases.>OtR the inferior versionIt's a sidegrade to the original that was 1 step forward( survivors can actually path, directly ordering them in DR1 barely function especially when they have no clue what to do over a tiny fucking incline in their way, no matter what defenders say), 3 steps back( survivors are rarely if ever in danger and have so much health they are a non factor most of the time, gas zombie gimmick in the later half, combo weapons existing at all, kill xp with combo weapons existing at all).
>>749522547>Maybe they should've made a new gameI mean... they did, couple years later.>but they obviously didn't because a) the game is a cash grabAnd that was my initial point, anon, thus my very first line in the first post being "You can't unsee how cobbled together it is if you've played original 2 beforehand". I don't believe we're disagreeing.>It doesn't work for Sullivan since he is letting both Stacy and Chuck fuck around instead of capping both in the head upon seeing the newsUnbeknownst to them, they're helping him. It doesn't pan out for our boy beyond Rebecca, precisely because Stacey and Chuck get too close to the truth with the Phenotrans laptop, but Sullivan's plan is to turn the safehouse into a honeypot: let Chuck bring everyone that survived the outbreak (read: every possible witness) into a box underground, then fill the place with zombies and shoot whoever survives.>It's a sidegradeAnd once again, calling back to my first post, "cool that it exists, and it's definitely worth a playthrough, but yeah it should always be a 2 + OtR combo, never just playing the latter or believing it to be the overall superior way to experience 2"
>>749522879>you can't unseeOnly thing I noticed was remixed item placements and having to actually escort Survivors. Former of which is negligible because I don't give a shit about combo weapons to begin with, the latter of which doesn't even bother me.Even the slight oddness in dialogue that's present even if you never played the original can be chalked with "haha japan (published) game">it should always be a 2 + OtR comboI think it's more than fine to play just OTR and never even think about 2 when its prologue (Case Zero) and actual epilogue( Case West) are DLC, there is new content, and some micro adjustments like Stacy's calls being completely hands free, and certain skills just being unlocked like the useless dodge roll being unlocked by default. The vice versa also applies if you think the plot is less Capcom quality in the original (it's not), and couldn't care less about the new content( new minigame mode is made for people that liked DR4, Uranus Zone is a joke that begins and ends at the name, Stacy boss sucks, mini chainsaw clown had a brother, there's actual voice acting when Stacy calls and Tyrone bothers to explain why you're doing his fetchquest in Overtime) because the experience is 90% the exact same.
>>749524165>when its prologue (Case Zero) and actual epilogue( Case West) are DLChttps://github.com/wivi514/Dead_Rising_2_Case_Zero_Xenon_Recomphttps://github.com/wivi514/Dead_Rising_2_Case_West_Xenon_Recomp
I replay this more than 2 simply because I like Frank better than Chuck. The twist ending and the Uranus Zone are pretty stupid/unnecessary, but it's all worth it for some extra Frank content, baby.
>>749516439I wasn't the biggest fan of DR2, but seeing trueblue DR2 haters say that they completely fixed it with OTR completely blindsided me. It's literally the exact same fucking game with like 1-2 tacked on mechanics and a couple new bosses......
>>749516439OTR is way better to the point 2 seems unnecessary. I still wanted a "Case: Greene" DLC where Psycho Chuck redeems himself helping Isabela escape.
>>749526387I'm still upset case 0 and case west was never released on steam
>>749526531They will be decompiled eventually just like P.T.We are in the AI era now. The sky is the limit.
>>749517358Dead Rising on the Wii
>>749521329Im glad that the original games gatekeep retards like you.
