Can someone explain to me how is Nintendo thriving and in their golden age while everyone else is going through mass layoffs, games that cost hundreds of millions of dollars and failed live service games?
>>749583876By keeping their mouth shut and making actual games. Playstation got too uppity and now they're getting raped by emulation and AI hacks while Xbox laughs in the background.
>>749583876No games tho
>make product>sell productHOW DO THEY DO IT BROS I DON'T FUCKING UNDERSTAND
>>749584268>laughs in the -ackgroundXbox is more like the dumb smug rich kid that nobody likes anymore. They have access to the most capital and yet somehow remain in the worst position

>make decent first party games>maintain brand strength by never issuing sales on first party titles>sell physical media
For me it's ownership
Iwata warned people this would happen but no one listened.
>>749583876>>749584241Good morning sirs.
In Japan, video games took off in the 1980s. Contrary to what some people think, PC games have always been important there, and in the 1980s, virtually all Japanese talent got their start in computers, as programmers. Some of the major software companies began as stores selling computer parts (hardware), and only later shifted to software.I believe it is because of these origins that virtually all major Japanese companies saw themselves as technology companies, rather than entertainment companies.Nintendo had a different origin than most, and it was already deeply immersed in the toy industry when video games began to take off. Nintendo quickly realized that the industry was not about technology but about entertainment, which is why it built an empire filled with valuable IPs, charismatic characters, and appealing brand, using a strategy much more akin to Disney (entertainment) than to Microsoft (technology).
>>749583876They didn't fall for the woke movie game memeThat's itThey're still doing games for customers instead of propaganda for investors
a games company that makes games has success making games
>>749583876Watch Harman Smith on YouTube. He has spent the past decade explaining it.
Never bending the knee. Or at least only VERY rarely. They’re still selling that Mario vs. Donkey Kong game for 60 bucks despite it being a 20 dollar game they’re crazy really but it works
They make fun games
>>749585945what are you talking about? chuds were shitting their pants over peach.
>>749583876I feel like they might be entering a new dark age though, a lot of their big ips are failing to make a splash in the same way that the switch 1 titles did. Once Sony reenters the handheld market Nintendo will start suffering again.
>>749586023No that doesn't make sense. You are lying. I will make this exact same thread 80 more times and wait for a response I want to hear
>>749586215At least peach didn’t treat Mario like shit, that goes a long way in making girl bosses tolerable.
>>749586376like that even mattered to the complainers saying "woke" nintendo sold out.

>>749587604>>GKCs have license ownershipThat is correct. You own the license as opposed to traditional physical where you own the game and the license. >can't peek inside the files or modify themVery true. Man you're good at this. >No ownershipAww you broke your own streak.
>>749587620I only debate other adults. No offense, but you're like 16.
>>749587727you're a child, considering your inability to understand that you can own things you can't touchin fact, such a thing is essential to most people's existence
>>749587708>That is correct. It's not. If you can't modify the product, it's not ownership.

>>749587798You can't own digital licensed media. That's not legally possible. Stop making this personal. Concede to the facts, not me.

>>749587930according to who? give me a link or stop shitting yourself you mindbroken tendienigger
>>749587929>you don't have a definition of ownershipCorrect. Ownership has already been defined by common law. I didn't need to do any defining myself, nor do you. It's already settled. We can not debate this.
>>749587930>>749587875Strange, because I have digital games that are on my hard drive right now, and they can never be rescinded. Hell, about 10 of them are PSN classics that I ripped from sony's store after the lying cunts refused to let me transfer them to future consoles.
>>749588035sorry, your spergout is invalidated by your lack of evidence
>>749583876Japanese company, Sony would be doing better if it didn't move its HQ to america and become an american company

>>749588217I guess I own them, then. Whatever "law" you're referring to means nothing. Practicality trumps it.
>>749588247they're claimsfact can be proven and you wouldn't dodge trying to prove themyou're lashing out because steamchuds raped you
>>749584651Xbox are the full blown retards that had a legion of suck ups that thought Minecraft 2 billion investment was a smart future for their ENTIRE gaming division in general. >made moneybro even Sony is pissing on xbox
>>749587982You can't own digital media due to the nature of digital media. Legally, giving people "ownership" of digital media also gives them ownership of the game's code and IP. If you allowed someone to "own" a digital copy of Super Mario 64, that also means you literally "own" Super Mario 64 and all its assets. This issue affects things other than digital media too. It also affects print media, music, film, etc., etc. The difference with those is that the law does at least give you the legal ownership of the paper the book's words are printed are. If you own a copy of The Grapes of Wrath, you still don't own the words printed on the pages, but you at least own the paper. You will never, EVER have the legal right to copy and distribute the words on that paper, but at least you own the physical sheets they're printed on. But with digital media, there is no paper. The paper is the physical hardware the media is downloaded into. When you download a game into your PS5 or Switch or whatever, you own the machine the game is in, in the same manner as owning the Blu-Ray disc the movie is burnt into, the paper the book is printed on. But you will never own the IP itself, and the problem with all-digital media is that there IS no distinction between that digital copy and the IP.
>>749588292It's perfectly fine to think that. Just be careful because you are still in fact not an actual game owner so don't try to exercise any of the exclusive rights that real owners like me have, you could end up in legal trouble if you do.
>>749584241flippy bippy
>>749588314>you're lashing out because steamchuds raped youThat's one way to interpret it.
>>749588373except that you own the drive it's on and you can clearly see the filesit's better than a book
>>749588412nah, a raped little warrior like you keeps talking about ownership but when push comes to shove he has no evidencewhy are you spending so much time seething when you have nothing to prove it with?
>>749588416Nobody said you didn't own your storage media but if that's your consolation prize for owning nothing then go nuts.
>>749588389Been almost 40 years on my end. When is this "legal trouble" going to strike? Another 2 weeks?
>>749588462I'm not seething.
>>749587524Nintendo is>Succumbing to the open world slop virus>Chasing trends, not setting them>Pandering to investors by nickel and diming their consumerbase>Producing endless sequels instead of new IP>Selling digital licenses disguised as physical media>Overcharging for crappy emulation>Pushing subscriptions over ownership>Disneyfying existing franchises to fit the Hollywood model>Allowing NoA to politicize and butcher localization efforts>Currently run by a former accountant with no connection to the founding family or the creative side of the businessAny I'm missing?
>>749588416Yes but I'm saying that is basically the same thing in legal terms. LEGALLY, the digital copy of Super Mario 64 is fundamentally the same thing as the words printed on a paperback copy of The Grapes of Wrath. You NEVER owned those words. You only own the paper. But what happens if there is no paper? And that's what digital media is. It's words without paper. And you never had legal ownership of the words, ever.
>>749588478Are you doing anything illegal?
>>749588490nah
>>749583876>>749584241Nintendo?Won. BIGLY
>>749588518Most of the shit you listed is either blatant misinformation or "It's an issue because I SAID SO"
>>749588562Nope. I bought these games, and simply made legal backups and legal modifications. See: my earlier example involving my PSN purchases on the PS3. Since sony won't let me play them on future consoles, then there's no reason to support them. I dropped support for them years ago. My PC will play all of my playstation games.
>>749583876How are they thriving? The only good Nintendo game this year was Splatoon Raiders.
>>749588604And this I why I don't debate 16 year olds
>>749588674>NopeThen you're good.
>>749588705because you lose?why should you be trusted to describe your own emotions accurately when you don't even know what the definition of fact is?

>>749589130I still own my games. No concession necessary.
>>749583876Nintendo makes games instead of chasing graphical and gameplay trends. They make things at a sustainable graphical/hardware standard instead of chasing the bleeding edge, so they waste a lot less money.Imagine you have two ways of doing something.Way one is the standard from two years ago. The difference between that and the cutting edge is so minimal as to be almost nonexistent to anyone who isn't trying to impress other people online with humblebrags about how high their standards are.Way two is the bleeding edge. It costs ten times as much as way one, slows down development as your artists need to learn new things, slows down development further as you deal with the inevitable limits imposed by higher fidelity, will probably be obsolete by the time the game launches anyway, but will provide a minor boost in interest from obsessed losers who hang out on imageboards - at least, until they spot a 'downgrade' in your latest trailer and start whining about how they were 'robbed' of a game that would have run at 10fps without that downgrade. And yet for some reason, everyone except nintendo keeps chasing way two.Oh and inB4 consolewars faggotry, I own them all you retards, and I consider anyone with 'brand loyalty' to be subhuman at best and an active agent in the decline of the modern world at worst. I can just recognize smart choices and stupid ones, and only one company isn't making stupid ones. That doesn't make me a 'fan', it's just a fact.
No one on /v/ has ever explained a means to grant someone legal ownership of a digital game without also giving them legal ownership of the IP.
>>749589196I accept your concession, thanks.
>>749589151You aren't mad at him?
>>749589253Make it physical. Lol.

>>749589238>Nintendo makes games instead of chasing graphical and gameplay trends. That used to be what they did, but then they sold out to graphixtrannies who wanted muh realism. They ruined OOT and Star Fox in the process.
>>749589253no one on /v/ has ever explained why they get to call physical ownership despite your rights being comparable to a rental
>>749587843Back in the day it would have been a nice rental.
>>749589352Ok then enjoy owning nothing.
>>749589424Why? What's wrong with killing everyone who enabled this reality?
>>749583876Hmm, delicious corporate cock. Keep on sucking king.
>Nintendo pissed people off with their stupid as shit anti consumer practices>Nintendo is currently pissing people off 10% less than the other stupid as shit anti consumer practices of the other 2 console makers>Nintendo is winning!!!>Nintendo golden age!!!I swear fanboys are deluded morons
>>749589471A pic made just for you
>>749589471People who? The Switch 2 is the fastest selling console ever lol.
>>749583876I mean, they actually made some games. Microsoft and Sony didn't do that, they just had lots of people working on live service games for a decade and never released any of them. Obviously if you don't make games, people can't buy the game that doesn't exist because nobody made it. Isn't this obvious?
>>749587969But anon, the more money we throw at it the more money it will make, right? We have to buy out our competitors instead of just using our resources more wisely. And how are we going to replicate the success of fortnight of we don't copy fortnight? Remember how all those companies made as much money as world of warcraft by copying world of warcraft? Remember how all those WoW-killers killed WoW? We need to do that so we can definitely make money by stealing the audience of a popular thing away from said popular thing to our substandard knock-off. What's that? Make something new and creative? No, we couldn't possibly do that.
>>749589565See, you're being sarcastic, but here's the sad truth: Nintendo is about the only company that can get away with not pumping obscene amounts of money into their products and still sell gangbusters. Like they're the only ones who can get away with this now. You think if Rockstar made GTA7 and it looked like GTA3, they'll get praised? No. The people would turn on them extremely fast.
>>749589674Having products at all helps with that
>>749589357I agree with you, but remastering two games that were made three decades ago years after everyone else started doing remakes and remasters does not constitute a shift in business strategy. The core strategy of their competitors for over a decade has been chasing trends and sensationalism while trying to stay on the edge, while nintendo sits around doing nintendo things at nintendo's pace instead of spending exorbitant amounts of money on 'blockbuster' games that get rushed to market half-baked and flop because they're just copies of something else that was successful. Nintendo is typically late to the party and late to adopt new things - and this means that by the time they adopt those things, many of the issues have been solved and the prices associated have dropped significantly. And you can see they're just as late to the remaster party as everyone else, and doing it to two games where graphics have actually advanced considerably since their release, not remastering 2 year old shit that still looks fine. They're not caught up in this retarded infinite growth mindset, they are steadily producing a product at a price they can afford to produce it at.
>golden agedebatable, that was the DS/3DS erabut just make fucking videogames, they need to quietly drop the game keycard tho
>>749589674No, I genuinely think every company could make more profit if they split their 300 person dev teams up into 30 teams of ten, told them each to make whatever the fuck they wanted, and gave them each 1/30th of the budget. Doing that they dramatically increase their chances of a low fidelity hit that makes obscenely more money back than it cost them to make. For every 29 flops they only need one Among Us. At the end of the day, the only time graphics really matter is when the games have nothing else to sell themselves on. And then they can just make a pretty sequel to their shitty looking breakout hit and double dip.
>>749589471>anti consumer practices What are they? do you expect to convince anyone that nintendo is le evil just by saying they're anti-consumer?
>>749588271Still hasn't posted his AC6 playtime btw
>>749590152>I agree with you, but remastering two games that were made three decades ago years after everyone else started doing remakes and remasters does not constitute a shift in business strategyThey're still supporting this cancerous practice of trying to "fix" the old games with gay realism. It doens't matter if they're late to the party or not.
