And somewhat recently (yes recently, it wasn't always this way, it started with Aventurine in Star Rail as "plot irrelevant backstory that should have been a sidequest but took up 2 hours instead) every main story in all of these Chinese gachas has been reduced to "tragic backstory of the week" as an excuse to sell a new character to you before they're completely forgotten about in the next patch to make way for the next tragic character. They've reached the point of being completely nonsensical because the main plot isn't actually allowed to progress outside of what the new character backstory will allow. I keep up with ZZZ specifically because it doesn't force you to progress the story to keep up with new character releases, unlike Genshin, Star Rail or Wuwa.

Galbrena is literally just plopped in the middle of the main story and we warp around learning about her pact with a Tacet Discord which doesn't do anything for the main story at all. It is literally us just wandering around getting fed her backstory for the ultimate payoff that she helps us out for one fight while the actual main antagonist is flinging us around to delay us so we can have this backstory explained to us. She hasn't even been seen since so all of that backstory hasn't even amounted to anything as she's still cursed.It's stuff like that that is being focused on more in random gacha games recently for some reason.

Note that I actually greatly enjoy the core action gameplay and endgame modes and grew attached to the setting and many of the characters.This leads directly to my biggest reason for dropping it however. I know the story will never get proper reveals and resolutions anytime soon if ever, because they need to keep the game running. I know the characters I grew to like will never be mainstays in the story again and will eventually be irrelevant in gameplay no matter how many rerun mindscapes I roll.
