I've struggled to beat Sister Of Mercy because of the lack of ammo and stuff, I've had to sell my fully upgraded pistol and its ammo to afford shotgun shells and health items, I think more balancing won't hurt. An iron maiden is bad enough for a human to imagine, but then the needles are also drills, and then theres endless auditory rape, and then eventually its sawblades all over scraping you down layer by layer, and when theres nothing left you get put back together and they try some other method.Whether the cenobites have such fried nerve endings that they literally dont feel anything anymore, or if theyve felt so much that having random open wounds on them is a nothingburger sensation is a valid question, but the end result is very calm and zen regardless

Finished the demo today.Liked the atmosphere and surprisingly good performance/technical everything.It certainly has the look and feel of Hellraiser (the series overall, not the first movie).It was ok for a modern game, despite having basically everything except yellow paint, and frankly, I think it was just an oversight instead of a conscious choice. It has crafting, weapon durability, "stealth" plus takedowns, all-knowing map, tubey levels, knee-high impassable barriers, armored enemies that need different weapons, silly "puzzles", lockpicking, the obligatory "stalker enemy you can't fight" (-segment only, I hope) and I assume more stuff in the full game. I didn't mind much besides a few occasions where I rolled my eyes in irritation.What I really didn't like was the nu-gore. It's a bit of a disease today that people in horror media seem to consist of 50% red jelly and 50% blood, with bones being optional (see e.g. newer Final Destinations, Stranger Things, the head-exploding finale of Nuspiria,....); and games do that very same shit. And once you have realized that it's as silly, or even sillier, than the classic "red plastic foam and syrup" stuff Jackson did in his early works, or all the other low-budget fun splatter flicks we used to watch as teenagers, that detracts from the atmosphere, since the cult and its teachings are conceptually very interesting, and the "art pieces" by the german guy are cool, again, conceptually, but silly if you know even the slightest bit about human anatomy. And having a gang enforcer who used to study medicine, if I actually understood that correctly, comment everything with an "ewww gross" and then slaughtering people like nu-Lara is also silly. Either make proper over-the-top gore and stand by it or deal with still not being as gross as the snuff house in VtMB despite trying so, so hard. I might pick it up for a tenner in a future sale if I feel like it.
