Are depictions of immoral acts in video games inherently immoral itself, or only when it intentionally encourages immoral acts?
>>749598571How many Gods died on the cross? I just need a number.
if you kill human NPCs in videogames you should go to prison
>>749598571It's not immoral in any case, otherwise you would have to jail everyone who has ever written a villain killing someone.
Are we really in 2026 and people cant separate fiction from reality? You think neanderthal troglodytes felt this way when they made cave paintings of mammoths and bison for fun?
>>749598685>Are we really in 2026 and people cant separate fiction from reality? There's only a difference if someone doesn't get immersed in the game. Like, what's the difference between 4chan and a video game?
>>7495987294chan has bots and shitskins talking about social media, politics, porn and their own miserable lives. Actual games have none of this.
>>749598795>4chan has bots and shitskins talking about social media, politics, porn and their own miserable lives. Actual games have none of this. That's not true, and games would have all of that depending on what you play. Have you never played an MMO?
>>749598685Yeah retard, some of us were there. I saw the neanderthal cave paintings that showed depictions of them killing us homo sapians and believe me, we genocided their asses. Draw me getting stepped on by a mammoth? Fuck offBy the way, in case you didn't know, you have actually posted a picture of a villain, Robbie Rotten, who discourages healthy exercise and a well-balanced diet. So no, I don't think a look of "disapproval" from a literal villain is very compelling. I know what makes him cheer.
If anyone is wondering, he's playing this btw:https://store.steampowered.com/app/1198970
>>749598571morality is a spook
>>749598571>Are depictions of immoral acts in video games inherently immoral itself, or only when it intentionally encourages immoral acts?Neither. Video games are art, and expressions of ideas and the human soul, including dangerous ones that cannot be acted out in reality, is the purpose of art. As an example, in Bioshock Andrew Ryan orders you to kill him. So you beat him to death with a wrench. It's a depiction of an immoral act, but it's beyond the player's control. But you are also given the option to harvest Little Sisters, which involves ripping the ADAM slug out of their stomach lining, which kills them. You cannot get the best ending if you do this. If you harvest them all, you get the worst ending. But regardless of ending you get, they are still just endings in a video game. Not real life. You can replay them as much as you want and go for whatever ending you want. You can play Undertale and follow the Genocide route, then clear the save flags after and do the Pacifist route and get the best ending, bypassing the permanent punishment Genocide is supposed to inflict upon you.One must always remember to separate reality from fiction.
>>749598571>does video games cause violence i thought we left the hysterical housewife arguments back in the 2000s where they belong
>>749599358>One must always remember to separate reality from fiction. Can you say why people should do that? I spent my life playing video games because I didn't like reality. That means to me, there's no difference beyond one being worse.
>>749599438Video games don't cause violence, but I'm sure they could teach violence. In school, people learn from books, right? Why couldn't people learn from video games? Like, a kid could play a game where you stab someone to death and now he knows you can do that to end someone's life. That's not learning?
>>749598571The bible depicts immoral actsThis should answer your question
>>749598571Define immoral.
>>749599679Because consequences are permanent in reality, while they are impermanent in video games. If I shoot you in a game you can just respawn. If I shoot you in real life you'll be crippled for life, if not die. I can't un-shoot you, and you don't get to respawn.
>>749599868Silence housewife and make me a sandwich
I remember the push to bring gamification to education and the terrible results it brought.
>>749600010It's weird that people truly believe in>ill die and its forever :(and then proceed to spend the rest of their lives ruining my website. It makes so little sense. Why do you waste your time if it's so precious?
>>749598642At least three
>>749598685i am a well adjusted individual I just happen to spend my time playing video games and pretending im murdering, raping, and torturing innocent people, I just jack off while doing fatalities on the mk girl characters, im normal though its just a video game, i can be trusted
>>749600571>there were no signs
>>749600271Like, who made the threads you see on the catalog? It wasn't me. Who made the hundreds of posts? I have one thread open. People will spend their lives here while talking about no respawn. No, you won't respawn, so maybe leave at any time. I'll be respawning, and that's why I'm here. The NPCs can't even act based on their own beliefs.
When has a game "intentionally encouraged" YOU (the person behind the screen) to do immoral acts? Because if its through a character it frankly doesn't count.
>>749600884>if its through a character it frankly doesn't count. If a character does something immoral in a game, I just view the situation as a witness, but I'll still be uncomfortable. Like in GTA 5 with the torture mission; I never replayed that game. Even watching immoral acts makes you an accomplice. That's how I feel.
>>749600884I get xp from kills
>>749599161>made in the us of a video>zero respect for human life>killing people as if they were mosquitoesWhy is this always the case? Why is american culture so fucked beyond repair?
>>749600989Sure, we emphasize with "stories" no matter how they are told or viewed. Still looking for a game where it grabs your shirt through the screen figuratively and tells YOU the flesh person, to shoot up a school right away, because it's the RIGHT thing to do.
>>749601034>Why is american culture so fucked beyond repair? In their defence, their media normalises violence. I explained in the GTA 5 thread that you can kill and torture in that game but you can't have sex. >>749601065>Still looking for a game where it grabs your shirt through the screen figuratively and tells YOU the flesh person, to shoot up a school right away, because it's the RIGHT thing to do.What about The Last of Us?
>thought crimesLmao
>>749598685You just accepted fiction as reality when you stated that neanderthals existed. There is no compelling evidence to suggest that man came from half monkey half human hybrids.
>>749601034My reaction was what a terrible shot that bitch is. Maybe this is the desensitization I hear people talk so much about.
>>749601065I ain't played it. Specifics?
>>749601137>im just a horrible person on 4chan bro its not actually me haha yeah i mean its my literal thoughts in text but its not meLolWasn't some guy arrested for threatening a politician on 4chan? I remember that happening.
>>749601105I think you can have sex in GTA V, you're just not allowed to see it.
>>749598571It is a fucking video game. The only time it works is if you had a grounded morality for the characters themselves in their world.
>>749601137>Immoral =! Criminal
>>749598571>It's all about context. You can tell when something is right or wrong pretty easily, it's not really that confusing.-Paul.
>>749599161There’s no way Max Stirner wasn’t jewish
>>749601210Nah, ppl who want to control what others think usually are way further off the edge. Can't even compete playing edgelord sim 2026 with somebody who wants to kill you because in his thoughts my thoughts might be bad thoughts.
>>749601261Morality evaluates actions, anon. The action is clicking a button for entertainment.Killing somebody is a thought because your click doesn't really kill anybody.Which makes assuming playing vidya is immoral because it depicts a fictional immoral act a thought crime because you equate it to a real life action by applying morality to it.
>>749600571That is unironically how it works.
>>749601607You can be immoral without being criminal. The "=!" means "equals not".
>>749598571It depends on its intent and depiction. FPS games aren't immoral on their own, but CoD is because it's designed as an army recruitment tool. This encourages people to commit immoral acts irl. Gore isn't immoral on its own, but ryona/guro is because it's designed to titillate those who get off to torture. This doesn't encourage people to commit immoral acts irl, but it's immoral nonetheless.Anything to do with porn in general is harder to extricate from immorality because it interfaces with harm brought to real people. Rape in particular is bad about this.Something being immoral does not mean it should be censored or criminalized provided it's strictly fictional though. What's more important is being clear about what you're making and who it's for so it's easier for people to ignore the things they don't like or approve of.
