Just got a gaming computer after missing out on the 2000s and 2010s, and the first game I downloaded was the old Bethesda classic, Morrowind. I quickly discovered there simply is a massive mod for Morrowind called Tamriel Rebuilt (TR). It adds 2-3x the size of the original setting of Vvardenfell, complete with over a thousand quests. You can even join an entire new House. It is all handcrafted, and not a single area or line of text or code or artwork was completed by ai. It is a human built, lore-accurate faithful continuation of the game that apparently defined most peoples' childhoods.
Let's discuss it.

Reminder that SureAI had released 3 Morrowind Mods, one huge Oblivion mod and one huge Skyrim mod with voice acting and music paid for by the pockets of the developers while Tamriel Rebuilt trannies cannot make a bunch of copy paste empty landscape with no voice acting while doing it for 10 years longer then SureAI.

Let me know when they finally put some Redoran content into the game.

for me it's playing sorcerer as written, as a cash-first dungeon diver looking for sweet artifacts
>>
Is there anyone that's NOT playing Morrowind as a Dunmer?

To be fair, my first char I've beaten the game with was a Wood Elf, but it was 2002, I was a horny kid, I didn't know anything about TES lore and Wood Elves had the best looking girls.
>>
>>749606521
you typically see the dark elf "beat the game" first time runs and then people play around with the other races, RPing as an outlander
>I was a kid
or that too. I remember the first time I saw an elder scrolls game when I was 10 I couldn't think past orc smash and just beat NPCs up in the streets
>>
>>749606370
>cash-first dungeon diver
You will never be real sorcerer. You have no mana regeneration, you have no spellbook, you have no arcane bloodline. You are a mundane man twisted by delusions of grandeur and a desperate need to be special. Telvanni mages laugh behind their daughter-wife's backs, mocking the lack of originality and aspirations. No magicka-mandated waifu harem.

All the "magic" you get is stolen from almsivi and their dick-riding. Every incantation you utter is a pale imitation of true sorcer. Every spell you cast is a pthetic mockery of arcane arts. You are a hedge wizard twisted by the arcane into a glorified speak-and-spell of the magical arts.

>>
>>749606521
Playing as a Dunmer is really nowhere even close to being as immersive or essential as people say it is. For one everybody still calls you a green newbie outlander anyway and all the Dunmer characters who refer to the player character as [Race Name] always call you "Dark Elf", which doesn't make much sense

You may be confused about what mod you're talking about. There are two large escale mods about Morrowind in the Skyrim engine.
You have Skywind that seeks to recreate Morrowind. This one is very popular because they're recreating all the features of Morrowind in Skyrim including all the crazy spells and expanding all the content. This alone makes it better than TR which is only concerned with adding their fanfiction into the story
The beyond skyrim Morrowind mod happens centuries later after morrowind events. Not being as large escale as Skywind they show new spells and dungeons that let you interact with the environment and cool robot enemies in a semi complex dungeon. Not bad for a modest project considering that most TR dungeons are just one room with an enemy and one million septim magic items.
>>
>>749617153
He's very clearly referring to BS' Morrowind Project and the fact it exclusively takes place in ash wasteland isles, I think you might be the confused ome
>>
>>749599972
DESU Tamriel Rebuilt isn't very good, no idea how people think anything in it is better than what's in the base game. If you're dead set on playing Morrowind for 1000 hours and have already done all the game stuff multiple times over I guess it can be okay

>>749618426
No? Poison Song threads consistently hit the bump limit every single day for like a month after its release. The only ones that didn't were the ones that were made when there was already one up, usually due to the fact that there was a falseflagger schizo pretending to be a comically obvious shill (this thread is likely his btw) making threads one after the other
>>
>>749618197
Is still an incorrect description because they showed more than just empty islands though. And what a weird comparison when most morrowind fans are invested in Skywind because it takes place in the same time period. No, this whole part of the fandom is built on the belief that "canon" doesn't matter because having Zenimax's seal on it doesn't somehow make it good or worthy of respect

File: MW-item-Indoril_Armor.jpg (99 KB, 480x640)

i remember when PS released some people were confused by the decision to have house indoril and the ordinators to spec on heavy armor instead of medium and a lot of people rebuked them by pointing out the fact that the ordinator class actually does have heavy armor as the favored skill in vanilla. but in addition to that, indoril armor is straight up described as heavy armor in the old elder scrolls website
>Indoril armor is the ornate heavy armor style worn by Ordinators, a military order of knights in service of the Tribunal Temple. Gold leaf details the pauldrons, bracers, and helm of this insect-shell laminate armor. So many Ordinators come from House Indoril that the armor style is known as 'Indoril' armor, though knights of all Great Houses may serve as Ordinators.
so i guess the iconic indoril armor WAS supposed to be heavy and then they changed it last minute for whatever reason. probably because medium arnor is kind of scarce even in the final game

i played these games in a weird order. i played oblivion, then morrowind then skyrim. first argonian in oblivion as i thought they just looked like a cool monster race. everyone else looked fucking retarded. then morrowind, and it opened my eyes to a version of tamriel that wasnt unbelievably fucking cringe and lame like oblivions. i played dunmer then and played dunmer in skyrim as well. skyrim really didnt hit the mark for me either. my love of this universe came and went with morrowind. its probably one of the most poorly handled fantasy universes and biggest "what ifs" in gaming history. the foundation morrowind laid with its sort of "soft reboot" of the TES series was amazing and they just couldnt ever quite match it since.
>>
>>749625859
The average fantasy fan is only really only familiar with metal and leather armor. And there's ESO, which is a lot of people's reference for the setting nowadays and does depict the Dunmer as primarily wearing metal armor and the game's signature leather hoodies instead of bug shells

You know it's kind of a shame there's such a divide between the old guard and new guard of modders when it comes to utilizing AI, because I think if the guys that are already familiar with creating and importing content into this game started using the tools we have at our disposal now, we could see the entire planned map out by the end of next year.

>>749627376
I agree in principle, but I doubt it will happen, and they won't be outpaced by a new AI-driven team within your timeframe because all the people with sufficient lore autism join TR. Even opus 5.5 has surprisingly shallow knowledge of the lore and sources, I have had to tardwrangle it quite a bit for my own stuff. No matter how smart it is it can't know shit that wasn't in its training data, isn't searchable online, and isn't otherwise available to it. By the end of next year it will certainly have the 3d-modeling/tool use to replicate all necessary dev processes from the top down (and maybe even the artistic taste to do it well), but it will be a while still before it's as easy as "claude please go make the rest" without a bunch of support simply because the lore it needs to follow is so scattered and buried.

I'd rather it take longer, but be a higher quality. Reality of it is they could complete it quicker, but it would be half assed like how it was done in the early days of the project.

A good chunk of the development process is quest design too and I don't have a lot of faith in the current models to create well designed quests.

>they'd have to employ lore-keeping agents with some kind of codex reference
What's the point of a complete TR mainland if it's just AI writing, even edited AI writing? AI should be used for technical shit only. I'd rather it remain incomplete and go read or play something else if it ended up full of AI writing. It's not like there's a lack of vidya or fantasy novels. There's enough content as it is with the game right now we don't need to ship moar like a tech company just for the sake of covering the rest of the map.
Especially when it comes to a mod AI shouldn't be handling any of the creativity. Mods are supposed to be the opposite of slop (slop content not AI-slop). Mods are cool because people aren't held to deadline constraints of companies, they're cool because they aren't fulfilling an obligation. Part of that also means you're not going to get 500 hours of content a year.
Honestly I think anyone who genuinely expects TR to ever be complete has lost the plot, pro or anti-AI. You're all in la-la land and don't know what the mod even is anymore. You just like the concept of unlimited TES.

I recently remembered that /vrpg/ exists and i saw that about a fucking third of that board is just TES threads nowadays, including like 5 Morrowind threads, one of which is TR-centric. In it, one guy shat on PTR on the grounds that the devs are supposedly ESOfags (and no one bothered correcting him until like 2 days ago), which is a hilarious accusation to say the least given the fights that happen on the /v/ threads, including the one earlier in this thread

In his defense, the Cyrodiil guys really should consider updating their wiki pages at some point, wiki readers who wanna learn more about the project are bound to get the impression that they're still holding Oblivion & other later lore as canon. The settlements page still mentions counties and Jagar Tharn being a member of an established family from Cheydinhal and such lol

What's funny is that this ultimately resulted in Jagar Tharn, who is its best representative, being so culturally and racially mixed he's basically unique (and this is old lore too, Arena-era,) and he's the one who pretty much killed the Third Empire in the end. Undone by its own creation.

I'm always so divided on whether or not to read delivered messages like this because you never know when theyre going to through in a "the player read this" script and punish you, but I also dont want to be a huge pussy and save reload to read it either

of course they're not holding oblivion as canon. they're holding their own lore they made up in their heads as canon.

They actually hold Morrowind-era lore about Cyrodiil found in the Pocket Guide, Morrowind generic dialogue, and dev forum posts, as well as later texts written with the Morrowind-era Cyrodiil in mind like the Song of Pelinal and Remanada as canon. Which of course naturally means that their version of Cyrodiil is ruled by Colovian Monarchies and Nibenese battlemages & Merchants as described in those sources, not the counts and dukes from Oblivion

Don't worry though, they still use things from Oblivion. It's pretty fun actually, seeing things from Oblivion adapted to the Cyrodiil that should have been

>They actually hold Morrowind-era lore about Cyrodiil found in the Pocket Guide,
That's only the background stuff. The rest of the things are up to their interpretation and pulling things out their ass while putting 0 effort on it

It's really funny to me that his favorite argument (because I've seen him use this particular bait in many threads) is "THEY MADE IT UP" like literally anyone fucking cares. It's the kind of 'gotcha' argument that you'd only dream up if you were legit retarded and thought people playing PTR are somehow Bethesda lore purists.
>>
>>749653418
I don't care that they made it up, honestly.
>>
>>749653498
Exactly, nobody does, the only thing people care about if is it doesn't blatantly contradict what Morrowind-era stuff tells us, that it evokes the feeling of Morrowind-era worldbuilding, and most importantly that it's cool and fun. Nothing more.

Like what exactly?
Like i said everything about their political structure for Cyrodiil is rooted in official material from back in the day. The storylines involving those structures are, ironically, mostly directly inspired by Oblivion stories. The only thing they've made up entirely is like, some of the wildlife i guess. And everything about Sutch and most things about Kvatch, but that's out of necessity since the former got pretty much entirely cut from Oblivion and the other is just a main story setpiece. I don't even care if they made it up or not, I agree with the posts above, I'm just curious: What, do you think they should have done instead? Just stuck to Oblivion's low level animal enemies and omitted things like Sutch as to avoid pulling things out of their ass?
