ADMIT ITYOU LIKE TO PLAY Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV9BuDWyYzMBest DSvania
>>749608407Happily.
>>749608407Love the DS titles, they are my babies
>>749608407Played. Enjoyed. Make another one
>no game where you can swap between Shanoa and Charlotte for maximum FUN
>>749608407I'm replaying this game right now
>>749608407I have not finished any of the DS games because they either stray too far from the original formula or I try playing them immediately after the superior GBA games.
>>749608407Nothing to admitI will proudly say it's my favoriteCan't play it anymore because I got the epilepsy tho...
>>749609146the DS games are all pretty good, maybe except DoS(still liked it though)
>>749608407it's pretty good
>>749609146I understand Ecclesia because it was designed to be the weird one, but Portrait? "Here is a normal Igavania, but you get a cute witch companion" strays too far from the original formula?
>>749609159wow really? you cant even play a DS game?
>>749609920DS version would be safer than Dominus; larger screens are worse when it comes to flashes because your eyes/brain can take in more of them. But there's a shitton of flashing lights (damage indicators, battle effects, even character switching) through the game, so even though I wouldn't immediately having fits it could build up and eventually trigger em.Gotta be more discerning these days, unfortunately means I can't play a lot of shit.
Dawn of Sorrow is still my favorite of the three DSvanias even though PoR is objectively the best of the bunch.
>>749608407Eh, I like to play the other Castlevania: DS games more.
>>749611398It has the best music.
>>749608407I emulated it and finished it yesterday. Awesome game, I wish I could play the coop mode, I bet it improves the game a lot
>>749609146Holy truthnuke
Piercing Silence alone makes this title top 3
>>749609146>stray too far from the original formulaPlay Ecclesia
>>749611480Dracula's Tears is one of my favorite area themes in the series.
>>749608407It's strange this game is set during WW2 but it aesthetically still looks like the 17th century.
>>749608407Best one in the series. It was chock full of fun extra bonus features like co-op play, alternate characters and characters that incorporated the touch-screen as a gameplay mechanic. Order of Ecclesia looked super sad by comparison.
Started playing Bloodstained and felt like I had played the same game 200 times already despite maybe only playing vania ripoffs
heh silly boys you just hate playing as a girl that's why you hated the new castlevania demo
>>749613257
>>749608407You hear you lose
>>749608997Aria mogs both dawn and especially ecclesia
ive been playing through level 1 hard from a fresh file. crazy how the game basically becomes ghosts n goblins for every single room let alone boss. i enjoyed learning how to survive each room up to this point, but now that i have the ancient armor its basically over. also was not aversed to using glitches and infinite quest rewards. ill try to do it without those next time.
>>749609817Dunno, "Igavania but the boy is a classicvania protag and the girl is a cute busty witch" sounds pretty Castlevania.
>>749608407We should've gotten a John & Eric Mode
>>749608407I've only played DoS. I really enjoyed it, but I don't know why, I've never tried the other two games
dawn of sorrow is so fucking PEAKKK
>>749608407Just finished replaying it. It's still good but the circus area kinda sucks. Stella & Loretta are underrated.
>>749616059They would get blocked by Astarte. This is why Old Armor is female.
>>749612963>Touch screen gimmicks goodRetard
>>749608407Yeah, it's a lot of fun
>>749612963>touch-screenI'm very thankful for the romhacks that remove that shit from DoS
I like to goon to Charlotte and then go play SotN instead
>>749620178>>749620346Holy filteredPeople (and I use the word very lightly) like you are why we got a Switch 2 instead of anything new or interesting.
PoR was fun but Charlotte was useless.
>>749620178>>749620346Sorry you guys hate fun and would rather signal to game devs that you want their games stripped down and rehashed to their barest minimum instead of experimenting with new things
>>749620564She's basically a walking Sub-Weapon function, so it really depends on if you're just ungabunga with Jonathon or trying to get creative.
>>749608407It's tied for CotM with the best oneWhy wouldn't anyone enjoy it?
I liked 13th Street and Dark Academy thanks to the Iron Blue Intention and Crucifix Held Close remixes.
>>749608407I did when it came out, but I still prefer COTM.
>>749611398PoR can't be "objectively the best" when you walk into the final boss room and the game says "whoops, we can't have you doing this yet, better replay all FOUR portraits again to remove the special mcguffin seal on the final boss door". Also, it's not the final boss, we shoehorned Dracula in again lmao kek.And in general there were way too many recycled assets, back when the game was new and the main community was on GameFAGs we did a lot of comparing and PoR has the least amount of new enemies in an IGA game, like 80% are all recycled from Rondo/SOTN/Dawn. There's even a bonus area where you fight all Dawn bosses in a row, it was that cheap.
>>749608407It was the best of the DS titles so yes
>>749620498I've beaten the game as it was originally intended, and I enjoy the no-touch-screen romhack version far more. Hopefully you play the version you enjoy the most as well, and you're not denying yourself that enjoyment out of some kind of misplaced pride>>749620894Next you'll start waxing poetically about how the Wii waggling was the optimal way to play games
>>749621630I don't get why those four weren't linked with the original four. It would have been so much more interesting if they had simply opened up new areas that connected with the old ones. You know, like how metroidvanias are usually designed. It's really my chief issue with PoR
>>749620894Instead of pure gameplay, nintentards prefer to have bullshit wagglan in their games They need ro be studied
>>749608407I really didn't. It's a good game, Charlotte's cute, and I wish I liked it more. I shouldn't have a problem with it. But starting with Aria broke my brain, so I can't go without the system of getting different powers from killing enemies. It's weird; I can play classicvania fine, but the moment it's a metroidvania, I need to have that mechanic or my enjoyment is hampered. Very unfortunate. At least the Richter and Maria mode kept me entertained, though I've no clue why that's an exception.
>>749620564Pick the appropriate spells.Rocks fall, wind goes up, explosion and chain lighting work really well in a lot of places.I did once a Charlotte run and outside a few things she had it easier than Jonathan
>>749620564Not when you get the Sorceress Crest.
>>749608407I like Harmony of Despair where I can play as Charlotte without the other faggot
dead series
>>749608407YOU CAN READ MY MIND??
>>749608407noI'm a DoStud
>>749608407one of the castlevanias I started and didn't finish, along with ecclesia. it was okay I guess. definitely not one of the better ones.
>>749621630So what did you like about the game?
>>749608407I enjoyed it. Ecclesia is my favorite of the DSvania games by a fair margin, though.
>>749622924I'm almost certain PoR and OoE are sucked off by brownoids who only played those toosuspiciously never mention SOTN or look down on it for some reason
>>749616059what the fuck you're right we should've gotten that
>>749623006OoE is the only one of the GBA and DS games that I never finished
>>749620346is this real
>>749623398Yes
>>749623335it's incredibly gay and retarded that they lock the true ending behind a bunch of glorified fetch questsyou just get blue balled by a long game over screen if you don't rescue every villager and it's just retreading all the linear levels to find the one room you didn't check and it's filled with all those annoying enemies that do all kinds of bullshit that you can't just sprint pastso fucking tedious just thinking about itone of the worst metroidvanias ever
>>749623456I didn't get that far, I just lost steam with all the outdoor-corridor levels and annoying enemies. Had it been made today I would have said the devs played Dark Souls too much
>>749624164yeah I'm not even trying to sound controversial but I genuinely don't get how anyone could like that gamemaybe tolerate it because it's on a handheld I can blast through one of those linear levels on a train/bus ride or something but stone cold sober in my home I would not consider that game good entertainment
>>749608407Never played it. I can't stomach the fugly spritework of the Advance era Castlevania games.
>>749624164>>749623456I fucking hate zoomers holy shit
>>749624484oh wow you're so old and cool dude you love playing old games that don't respect your time for nostalgia because you peaked at 8 years old I'm sure you're so happy and make so much money
>>749624484I haven't played 3, so I don't get your point
>>749624732I have played III--it's one of my favorites--and I still don't get his point. Order of Ecclesia is almost nothing like it.
>>749625109Maybe he's trying to refer to the non-Igavania games, and how they were always far more linear? But then that's why we have the "classic Castlevania" and "Igavania" distinction in the first place...
>>749608407I dropped it at the Egyptian painting with the bullet sponge mummies
>>749625351>>749624635>>749624732>>749625109>this game is too hard, its just like darksoulz!!EE>shut the fuck up zoomer!>what did he mean by this?
>>749625464>this game is too hardI never said that, though
>>749608407I like holding up when Charlotte is out and she goes "Not bad, huh?" She knows what I want.
>>749620564it was retarded that Johnathon could level up his subweapons but Charlotte couldn't level up her spells.
>>749626631*jiggle*
