Asymmetric analog stick ares so awful

You see that select button? The analog stick is in the way if you try to press it

Also you can't use the d-pad at the same time with claw grip for e.g. souls games

No I'm not buying gamesaar, I fell for the Cyclone 2 meme and the buttons are creaky as fuck. I also hate how they feel. I want smooth buttons like the switch 2 pro controller. I don't care about having the best performance either.

>>
>>749630742
To me, backpaddles serve only one purpose, but they’re a game changer in the games that benefit from it: jumping / jetpacking around with them is so good when compared to A button, as you can actually aim and do other stuff normally without needing to bend your fingers into some esoteric positions to do it.

Almost all modern controllers outside of the first party Sony and Nintendo ones are XInput (Windows will see them as a generic Xbox pad). This is the standard in PC gaming, you don't need to fuck with settings or wrappers because most games expect XInput anyway.

TMR is the newer hotness (basically the newer and more power-efficient evolution of hall effect sticks, there's more nuance to the mechanism side of it but not important here). Hall effect sticks are, hilariously, more often a baseline/budget-level feature at this point from third-parties. meanwhile you have nintendo charging almost a hundred christfisting dollars for the Pro Controller 2 while still using post-2016 potentiometer sticks because retards think smooth-feeling silicone contact rings mean the stick mechanism itself is wearproof, and the Playstation/Xbox "elite" controllers are at/near $200 yet also still use pot sticks because Playstation and Xbox are just borderline designer brands these days

I can't believe it's been 31 years and we're still doing this. Playstation dpad is one single piece of plastic just like everyone except the switch. It just hides behind the top plastic for style. Functionally it's still just a regular center pivot dpad.
Switch is 4 distinct buttons and is as stupid as you think. Yes, I know why they did it, doesn't stop it being stupid.
>>
do they have a good N64 controller yet that is all i want for emulation
>>
>>749635463
Hall effect is also just plain shit. It fixes stick drift because it's a (mostly) non contact thing so nothing to wear down, but the sensing mechanism is really inconsistent and so it has to be smoothed so much the result is a rough, jumpy, barely analog output useful only for TPS and sport games. Potentiometers only have stick drift, their usefulness is far greater until that happens though.

i bought one to replace my wii u pro controller and it was unusable. the connection was spotty, the controls didnt feel accurate, and the fucking FACE BUTTONS WERE SOFTWARE INSTEAD OF HARDWARE. this means pressing A was actually sending the B input because it had nintendo face buttons but the xbox face buttons in code.

so then i got the wireless adapter. i figured maybe i could use that and keep using my wii u pro on other stuff too. but guess what? it ALSO changes the buttons in code so A sends B. i have kept my ancient mayflash adapter so that A can be fucking A regardless of physical position on the gamepad.

i have yet to find a better controller than the wii u pro and im not kidding. i am desperate for an upgrade but nothing can compare. and i fucking HATE 8bitdo trash

We're at the point where a $40 budget-pro controller has TMRs, anon (and TMR has more reliable fine-pitch analog actuation than HE, so there's more benefit to the power efficiency than just wireless use).
>>749635656
And they're not even stripping down anything particularly big feature-wise from the Ultimate 3 either (the Ultimate 3 is already stripped down from the Ultimate 3E oh my GOD I hate the way they name shit). I'm pretty sure dropping the Xbox branding ALONE is a decently-sized contributor to the savings (reason I think this is because their Xbox-themed TKL keyboard is $20 more than their other TKLs).
>>749636257
I think the Big Three all converging on much more standardized features/design/components (relative to Gen 7 and earlier consoles) is a big reason why third-parties have caught up in quality so massively in the past 7ish years. And the Big Three have gotten so complacent that I'd argue, dollar-for-dollar, these modern third-party controllers beat the PISS out of what they offer. A budget 8bitdo or Gamesaar is a far superior "little brother" controller over the shit you were likely to get on the cheap in the 80s-mid-2010s. and that's not even getting into the true horror of budget sticks that most UK computer gamers had to put up with for their 8/16 bit computers
>>
>>749636531
do you recommend me this one? You're not sure either, what's the difference between these two?
>>
>>749636738
I'm pretty sure you have it set up wrong. It should just send whatever corresponds to the correct position on the controller, regardless of the button label. Most 8bitdo controllers have multiple modes, look at the label on the back.

If he's running through Steam, sometimes it's sneaky and automatically swaps A/B and X/Y for controllers it detects as Nintendo controllers (either with the "Nintendo Layout" toggle or in the actual default mapping for that controller).

I think they need to put some effort into the analogues.
They are perfectly functional but they arent amazing compared to stuff you can get elsewhere.

and yeah there's a big lack of PS style pads out everybody is just aping xbox.
>>
>>749636780
At this point it will be interesting to see how complacent the Big Three is going to stay. They could move to TMR sticks with minimal part cost increases for goodwill, but then again, they could also be maximal faggots and keep using potentiometres solely for the reason of ”they will break, and consumers will then buy a new controller, brilliant”.

Not that I would have any delusions that Gamesaar and other such companies could ever seriously compete with the first party controllers in sales, no matter how big the quality gap gets, but in best scenario they can become enough of a gadfly so that it forces the big manufacturers to put in a little extra effort.

Non registered diagonals and double diagonal mis inputs no matter how precise and slow you input them. Multiple videos testing them. Horrible for SF4 and UMvC3 advanced Viper tech and combos and movement in pretty much every anime fighter. Impossible to pull off Nina WC butterfly loops in Tekken etc. I can pull that shit off with 15 dollar Hori Gem controllers. 8shitdo has easily the shittiest Dpads out there. nope i tried. the other mode sends the correct inputs, but is not picked up as a real controller by games and software. and the 8bitdo adapter has no such options. it sends "NINTENDO SWITCH" to the receiving device and for whatever reason those drivers are coded to xbox. also, on android (the main reason i got it) the other mode simply doesnt work. all the controls are scrambled, and i mean SCRAMBLED like buttons having stick directions and shoulder buttons and shit being all flip flopped around.

the adapter is beyond unusable. it turns my wii u pro into a broken "switch" controller and the 8bitdo controller was just pointless and worthless

>>749637080
i actually emulate and pirate shit so steam wasnt involved at all. normal xbox mode is not something i will ever use because the buttons are wrong and the other mode isnt detected by my emulators or games. namely for whatever reason dark souls would just NOT pick up the 8bitdo shit. i went back to my mayflash and im very happy with my pc thinking its an xbox 360 controller but with the correct nintendo face buttons
>>
>>749637093
I have an ultimate I dont use and a pro3 that is my main pad right now.
I mostly play fighters on stick though.
For xbox shape I prefer the Flydigi Vader 4 to the ultimate but I like the pro3 shape the most.

>>749637210
I have pads with that. They are weird, but not bad and work just fine. I prefer a traditional cross d-pad. I dont know if I actually prefer the clicky microswitches over membranes from the past.
>>
>>749637153
The leaks for the Xbox Elite 3 indicate that it's gonna have Hall Effect sticks (and still likely be $200+). Yes, I said HE. Not TMR. It'll probably be a few more years still till any of the Big Three even acknowledge TMR.

when do we expect pro 4s out? any rumours on this?
>>
>>749637683
The colors on their PC/Xbox-oriented controllers are often absolute crap for some reason. Their Nintendo-oriented controllers usually have nicer colors.
>>
>>749637770
I have no clue my pads are working fine right now I usually just get into that stuff when Im looking for something new.

curious about the next saar tarantula that is wireless.
I had the first one with the AWFUL button changing mechanism for retards like the one in this thread who cant memorize buttons and that was just terrible. also didnt like the dpad.
newer tarantulas supposedly have a better dpad but they are all wired and I want something wireless.
>>
>>749626636
I got a new controller a few months ago, I think I'll wait for the next revision
>>
Whats the cheapest controller with programmable back buttons?

I absolutely hate games where they mapped actions to multiple face button presses (looking at you MonHun with all the y+b inputs), and I want to be able to programe those into a single button.

gamesaar tegenaria lite probably. only wired though.

THanks.

Wired is fine, but symmetric analogues are a bit of a let down. Other than that it's pretty much perfect.

My sister got me this for Christmas (i didn't ask for it) and it's nice how you can switch the L2/R2 buttons from clicky to full analog. My yuge problem with 8bitdo controllers though is that if you flick the sticks, it rebounds in the opposite direction just enough to register an input, which is really fucking annoying. Especially with choice wheel menus where it chooses the opposite option sometimes.

Actually the nova lite 2 from gamesir is the perfect controller.
It even lets you pretend to be a PlayStation or Nintento if you want and has the xbox one dpad. Absolute perfection.

I have an 8bitdo also.
Not bad, but the dpad has a spongey and is not precise.

However gamesir does have the worse name.

But is it the best controller to let me play normally on my puter?

When is the regular Ultimate 3 with Switch support coming out?
>>
>>749626636
This doesn't look like an upgrade over the Ultimate 2. Should I wait for an Ultimate 3 without the C?
What I really want is a Pro 4 with 2.4 1000hz, but oh well.
>>
Man, I really want to love my 8bitdo pro 3 but I can no longer recommend it. My launch window unit has a perfect for me d pad. Bought another one for my son to use and the d pad is unusable. Not even being hyperbolic, pressing any direction will always give you false diagonals.

For a replacement coming and I hope that was a one off issue and not a change in design
>>
>>749626636
Gamesir has a superior Dpad and comes with a controler case.
8bitdo does not.
>>
If I didn't have a Steam Controller I'd use my 8bitdo Ultimate 3 or C everyday.
>>
i have a shitty old xbox series s controller and the joysticks are disintegrating from playing ace combat and star wars galactic racer lately
i "reserved" a steam controller ages ago but who knows when that shit will ever see the light of day, it says 2027
are there any good controllers you'd recommend for the very limited number of games where a controller is better than mkb?
prefer the xbox layout cause that's what i grew up with more and never really liked the feel of ps controllers or how their joysticks move

8bitdo unironically.
It's like $30 for the same build quality as the $80 stuff.

I just bought a hall effect modded 360 controller.
The Fantech EOS Pro II seems to be the closest modern equivalent to the 360 shape but apparently has stick accuracy and latency issues reading from gamepadla. There's also the RetroFighters Hunter 360 but fuck RetroFighters, bought their D6 and build quality is somehow worse than Retro-Bit
>>
>>749641173
Which one?? There are dozens of them
>>
I have youtube blocked, how is it different from the pro 3?
>>

2C or Ultimate for key-rebinding. If you want an Xbox-like thing.
Well I guess 3C too is now an option.
>>
>>749644412
You mean pro 2
>>
>>749644412
>>749645505
The pro line is the ps style
The ultimate line are their "normal" or Xbox shaped ones

Anyway I haven't looked into it that much but from the trailer the only difference seems to be that you can adjust the thumb stick tension

These chinks did well. I didn't think such a reality was possible, but it really beats out any of the Jewtrollers from the main consoles I've experienced all my life. It's supposed to be drift-proof too, and it's been a year and I think it really is. Been making macros on the 8 extra buttons with the app, it's fun
>>
>>749646208
How does it work on Linux? Do you need some shitty software to set it up?
>>
>>749644953
It doesn't have back buttons so not for me
>>
>>749646461
For Linux I think you gotta get community drivers, but at least they exist. m1-m4, c and z will be invisible connected out of the box without setup or app.
>>
>>749632157
It's time for you to kill yourself, because all the high-end controllers use switches for buttons. You are used to shitty membrane, like in the pro controller
>>

all face buttons and dpad use micro-switches. I didn't like the mouse-click feel at first, but I think I was just too adapted for the softer membrane ones. It's more consistent and responsive overall, never feels wore
>>
>>749634026
nope,

dpad with diagonal issues
poor centre pivot design making switching opposite directions have unnecessary resistance
poor shell geometry that rubs on the side of the dpad
triggers drop inputs if you hold them down
loud as fuck buttons

Genuinely awful experience that no amount of trying to fix it helped and now anytime I see them discussed or shilled I'll countershill for free

they look pretty, but that's all they do

potentiometers jitter like that too, badly. If you've ever seen a calibration tool that showed you the full res unsmoothed like the windows gamepad configuration, it's so terrible. When I got my first TMR controller I was kind of mad we put up with that trash for so long. Went from teleporting Schrodinger's stick position to pixel by pixel smoothness. At this point the sensors are so good, they need to fix the uneven pressure and feel of analog sticks and how you feel a cross-shaped valley at the center.

I've been complaining about this bullshit ever since I first got an 8shitdo and everyone just tells me I'm wrong or that I don't understand Nintendo button layout.
