What are your best memories of video game display units you could play on?I remember being in a Toys R Us at 10 years old in the Nintendo isle seeing Yoshi’s Island and its kindergarten coloring book graphics with a baby crying Mario you had to carry everywhere and thinking how childish and annoying it looked, while the Sega isle had Sonic and Green Hill Zone blowing my mind with its graphics and speed. Easiest decision I ever made. Also playing Super Mario 64 at Target was an incredible experience
Hey, does anyone want to see my unit?
I remember my neck hurting because the TV was always really high up.
>be 5>was obsessed with Sonic as a kid>there was a Gamecube demo unit with SA2B>think "wow this looks really fun I can't wait to try">the faggot in front of my sees me watching, picks Eggman, and leaves
>>749638432I don’t get it, are you saying you didn’t know how to quit a stage?
I remember playing a mech game on the original xbox where you flew around a battlefield killing little soldiers and tanks and thinking "wow you can do anything in this game, the future is here"also Kameo on the 360 but that was less impressive to me, I just remember it being neat looking with all the different transformations you could do
My mom worked at Walmart when GBA released and I asked her if she could take home the demo unit that I saw one day. It didn't even cross my mind that this would count as stealing.
Seeing Call of Duty 2 at Best Buy on an HD widescreen on an Xbox 360 was mind blowing. That UFC game too
>>749638902I always wanted those Gamecube demo discs so bad, especially since I had 30+ ps1 demo discs from the magazine
I remember seeing a Best Buy demo for the Xbox 360. It looked amazing. I later found out they were using some really high end HDTV's. My console didn't look half as good at home.
>>749641789>>749638965It was a Call of Duty demo. Can't remember what one. Probably was 2. The TV's they were using were very expensive at the time.
>>749638091Pikmin and Luigi's Mansion. One time when I was little we were staying in my rich uncle's big California house for Christmas and they were out of Luigi's Mansion so I bought Super Mario Sunshine instead. Great compromise I think.
>>749638091Does the DS download play services count? You’d bring your DS to the store and download game demos and trailers onto it.
>>749638091Back in 2006 when I got my Xbox at GameStop in a mall there was a demo for a game that I didn't know and seemed scary. All I can remember about the game was the player character ascending a ladder into a loft in first person, which isn't a good description of what the game was.
>>749638091>Meet some rando playing Melee against other kids>Pick up Fox and beat his ass 1 on 1>Guy was pleased and shook hands with me>Never cross paths again in lifeIt was in Hyrule Temple, items were most likely on and it was a time battle too, this was before tourney scene really took off and before youtube as well.>>749638432One and only place that sold games in town>One day out of nowhere there was a Dreamcast with Sonic Adventure 1>I was a PS1 kid so I didn't know shit about it at the time>Shat my pants at the gamplay in Emerald coast, it was a religious experience>Next week... Dreamcast kiosk was gone for some reason>It was 99, so, SEGA wasn't dead yet>Spent the next 4 years trying to play that game but nobody I knew had a Dreamcast
>>749638091When Mcdonalds had Gamecubes it gave me a chance to play Wind Waker. Suffice to say the cartoon style didn't bother me and I later bought the game.
>>749638091I played the shit out of the Killzone demo at my local Circuit City for months. After my parents split, that first Christmas my brother got me a PS2 and the first game I bought with my own money was Killzone. Fucking love that game to this day.
>>749638965>CoDIt's an unspoken rule of these threads that your post has to be Nintendo or Sonic-related.
I played Mario party 9, smash bros 4, and sonic rush
I basically discovered video games this way. Saw a Sega Genesis with Sonic & Knuckles. Might have even been the full game. Before that I had only played Mario on the NES. Thought it was cool, but didn't start pestering my mom until later. Always wanted to go to the electronics section to try out the demo displays. Made going to the store a special experience. Then later I went to somebody's house, and they had a CD binder full of demo discs for the PS1 from some magazine subscription. Found several of what would become my favorite games that day.Basically consumerism has lost its luster and become as stupid and gay as everything else.>but kids still enjoy things todayNo they don't. Fuck them. They don't know what's good. Only me and my generation.
>>749644276I sort of understand the Windwaker hate coming from the people that anticipated the release of something that looked like the Zelda gamecube tech demo. Having only played a small amount of OoT, I had no stake, and loved the shit out of WW. Went back and played the old games, but it really boils down to the best game being the first one that you decided you like.
i remember being like 7 years old and walking into Walmart with my mom and immediately going to the video games section as usually but this time i see they have a Gamecube station with a monitor way above the display. there's a teenager playing and his friend is watching him play. i look up at the TV and i see a Zelda game i never knew existed. It was the windwaker.I watch this retard being unable to figure out how to light the torch in the entrance of the Dragoonroost dungeon. he gave up after running around for 2 minutes.I pick up the controller and solve the puzzle in a second. I've never been so stocked playing a demo before and i begged my parents for a Gamecube and Zelda windwaker until i got it for Christmas.honorable mentions>1080 Snowboarding at Mcdonalds>Smash 64 at mcdonalds>Pikmin at mcdonalds
>>749651560>I've never been so stoked*i can't type.also bonus honorable mention>Spirit tracks at walmartcould have stole the fucking NOT FOR RESALE demo cartridge if i wasn't such a moral fag back then.
The 360 kiosk still feels like the future. I've never seen a standalone PS2 kiosk.
>>749638091I remember playing Ninety-Nine Nights at Walmart after school
>>749650937> Saw a Sega Genesis with Sonic & Knuckles. Might have even been the full gamePretty much all demos on systems that used cartridges were the full game. Discs were where short multiple demos began
I remember playing Metroid Prime for the first time on a GameCube demo unit. Funny thing is it looked amazing for the time. But I never bought the GameCube or ever played Metroid Prime again.
My friend said he saw a guy put in the nude code for the original Mortal Kombat on the Genesis at the local toy store. I would go there and stand around just waiting for that guy to show up. My friend was an asshole lol
