Is there some specific law that applies this to money also?
>>

isn't that a Jap compliance thing?
>>
>>749639916
They definitely do, which is why Nintendo Gold/Platinum points expire 6 months after you get them and you cannot claim Gold points 12 months after a game releases, even if you buy it after. Japanese consumer law is some of the worst on Earth.

Probably, same reason most hentai games are banned on steam in Germany, because Germany wants every hentai game to go through USK and age verification even the most shittiest AI hentai shovelware. >No, leftover currency (account balance) on the Japanese Nintendo eShop does not expire after 6 months.
>Account Balance Validity: Once added to your Nintendo Account, your eShop funds remain in your account until you spend them.
>Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers: These have an expiration date of one year from the date of purchase.
>Digital Game Codes / Prepaid Cards (unscratched/unused): Some promotional or physical game codes may have a printed expiration date noted on them, though standard eShop cards themselves generally do not expire once active.

>No, leftover funds added directly to your PlayStation Store wallet do not expire after 6 months on the Japanese PlayStation Store.
>Wallet Funds: Once you redeem a PlayStation gift card or add yen balance to your PlayStation Network (PSN) wallet, those funds remain valid in your account indefinitely.
>In-Game Currencies vs. Wallet Balance: The 6-month expiration rule in Japan generally applies to specific in-game microtransaction or virtual currencies (like Fighter Coins or similar publisher-managed items) rather than the main platform wallet balance itself, depending on how the publisher structures them under Japan's Payment Services Act.

>The 6-month expiry rule under Japan’s Payment Services Act (Article 4, Item 2) is an exemption threshold for prepaid payment instruments (such as in-game currencies, gift cards, or e-money).
>Exemption from Regulation: If a prepaid instrument is strictly designed to expire within six months from the date of issue (and actually expires or becomes unusable after that window), it is legally exempt from heavy regulations under the Payment Services Act.

TLDR it's valve cheapening out like kikes and not wanting to pay JP taxes

It is so surreal in this supposedly socially just world to watch Japan essentially be blockaded, harassed, and have its companies even occasionally forced to make concessions all because it refuses to stop being conservative and is proud of its culture. They especially can't handle that more and more Americans are choosing Japanese stuff over California shit and even adopting Americanized versions of Japanese ideas instead of whatever bullshit the Western lawmakers want them thinking. Progressivism is so paternalistic it is disgusting when you realize it. It just wraps paternalism in a blanket of sensitive words and that is enough to fool the average retard.
>>
>>749640179
the law doesnt prevent them from having virtual currency, it just makes the platform pay taxes on any holdings if they hold them for more than 6 months so they dont try be a clandestine bank or black market dealer (which steam very much is with the csgo casinos)

Valve is the single most jewish company to ever exist so there was no other option for them.

>Japan's Payment Services Act (Article 4, Item 2) is not designed to prohibit or stop a specific criminal offense.
>Instead, Article 4, Item 2 outlines a legal exemption/exclusion regarding Prepaid Payment Instruments (such as gift cards, e-money, or prepaid points).
>What Article 4, Item 2 Actually Does
>Exemption Scope: It specifies that prepaid payment instruments which can only be used within a short, limited validity period from the date of issuance (as defined by a Cabinet Order) are exempt from the heavy regulatory requirements of Chapter II of the Payment Services Act.
>Purpose: The exemption is meant to reduce regulatory red tape for short-lived, low-risk promotional or event-based vouchers rather than to criminalize or target a specific illicit act.
>Lightweight Compliance: By exempting them under Article 4, Item 2, the law helps prevent over-regulating short-term, low-risk, or transient promotional instruments, allowing businesses to issue them without triggering full-scale registration, net-asset thresholds, or security-deposit mandates.
TLDR this is literally a costumer protection thing, the problem is valve is refusing to not even actually pay tax apparently, they literally just need a security deposit to guarantee their funny e-money isn't a literal rugpull, which they refuse to do and instead just said "fuck you" to their entire japanese userbase.

>>
>>749641094
To continue this:
>Chapter II of Japan’s Payment Services Act (Act No. 59 of 2009) governs prepaid payment instruments (such as gift cards, IC transport cards, and in-app game currencies).
>• Definition of Prepaid Payment Instruments: Certificates, electronic devices, or electromagnetic records issued in exchange for consideration that allow the holder to purchase goods, services, or receive benefits from the issuer or designated third parties.
>Own-Business Prepaid Payment Instruments: Instruments that can only be used to purchase goods or services directly from the issuer (or related/affiliated corporate groups). If the unused balance exceeds a statutory standard amount (typically 10 million yen), the issuer must file a notification with the local Finance Bureau.
>Third-Party Business Prepaid Payment Instruments: Instruments that can be used to purchase goods or services from participating third-party merchants outside of the issuer. These require formal registration with the Prime Minister/Financial Services Agency (FSA), compliance with net asset thresholds, and security deposits.
>Issuers of third-party instruments (and own-business issuers exceeding threshold limits) must deposit a performance security deposit (equal to at least half of the unused balance at the end of March and September) with a legal affairs bureau, or establish a trust agreement or guarantee contract with a bank to protect users if the business fails.
>The FSA and local Finance Bureaus have the authority to inspect issuers, request operational reports, and issue business improvement or suspension orders. Failure to comply—such as neglecting fund-securing obligations—can lead to administrative sanctions or criminal penalties (including fines or imprisonment).
TLDR: Holy fuck apparently all valve had to do is give a deposit to guarantee they aren't going to go belly up in the near future to comply with customer protection laws, which they refused to do.

Japan has over a hundred million people that are wealthy, it is strong enough that most of their companies straight up don't think internationally as they can already get rich off of the domestic market. The country on the global stage in many ways is still second to America if you discount China fudging numbers and Germany occasionally getting raped by migrants hard enough to rise above. Recently, it has even started to experience economic growth again and it has a globally decent birthrate that it continues to treat as a pressing issue. There pretty much has to be some conspiracy behind why so many companies and other groups ignore this nation. Ever since it westernized it has been treated like a weird sort of pariah, but post 80s this has gotten to unprecedentedly retarded levels.
>>
>>749641374
>TLDR: Holy fuck apparently all valve had to do is give a deposit to guarantee they aren't going to go belly up in the near future to comply with customer protection laws, which they refused to do.
no, its worse
read it carefully
heavy regulations and taxes only really apply to issuers of e-money in which said e-money can be used outside the issuer's platform, aka, if you're a literal fucking bank or trying to be one
they don't apply to issuers in which the e-money is platform exclusive, all those have to do is " the issuer must file a notification with the local Finance Bureau."
that's fucking it
they didn't even need to issue a security deposit as that only applies to " third-party instruments (and own-business issuers exceeding threshold limits)"
valve straight up refused to do extremely basic shit and register as a legitimate business in japan

Has nothing to do with hentai or porn games.

Germany requires the proper documents to classify a game into an age bracket. If they do not fill out the form there is no age classification and therefore the game automatically becomes "+18", which is the equivalent of a pornographic game, even if it was something as retarded as Angry Birds. Now the real question is why games like Cyberpunk 2077 that are rated +18 are allowed to be advertised and sold.

They operate in this grey area where cs items are pure speculative in prices which valve is already gutting, users use them as a hoard of wealth that they're slowly cashing out now that the market peaked and is being phased out. Steam funny money has more going on like currentcy manipulation like generating wealth from the difference in currecy values that's why they recently put a minimum floor fox tax to 0.01 cent to the dollar so I can't generate as much free gaben money from card drops. I think ultimately though they do this so they can in no way shape or form be treated as a bank like cs is being is as a black market. They've rather eat shit now than a future criminal investigation on why this acc has millions in CS skins, same reason there's a 2000 dollar cap on steam credit.

I feel like they unironically felt like they had Japan in the bag Olympics onwards but then Japan started pushing back in a way too obvious for them to pretend like wasn't happening. Then you had things like Sony moving to protect Kadokawa from mainlanders, UN feminists getting kicked out, Takaichi getting elected. The schizo posters were exactly correct about what they spammed about for years. I'm sure most of it is Chinese rage like another anon said. The reason you get smuggies posting "thing: Japan" memes or talking about it being "overly glazed" is because they are terminally contrarian retards that are easily duped by shit pushed online and always want to sound superior on things. It is like questioning why Japan was so villainized in 80s media. It is just the continuous cycle of them being upset they can't topple it.
>>

wouldn't be surprised if they were pestering valve for over a decade and only now gave them an ultimatum to just register as an active company already, upon which valve decided to just fuck over the jp consumer instead

You must be very careful with companies introducing funds that can expire. Even a "based" one like Steam. If this ever becomes the norm we are absolutely fucked as a society.

They wouldn't even need expiring currency if they just registered as an active business.
Both nintendo and snoy in japan have e-wallets that don't expire, though nintendo will empty your e-wallet money if you swap regions, but given the only eshop that matters is the JP one, this is hardly a problem.

That's what the japanese news reports were about. There were no reported cases of money going missing, and when they contacted Steam about it they were told that steam wallet funds currently aren't expiring. So even though the ToS was updated it seems that they don't have the systems in place to enforce it yet.
>>

Japanese laws requires it so it is by definition legal. next time don't put money in someone's hands until they have something you want and treat that 30 as a life lesson. >>
>>749645418
its very likely its due to the CSGO casino shit
that makes valve gorillions and they are way too coy about not bringing mainstream attention to it for obvious reasons
having to disclose finances in japan would mean having to disclose how the item trading system works, which may qualify them as a bank and thus forced to pay those taxes, or as a literal gambling enabler and thus banned entirely, given the gubmint has been even cracking down on pachinko gambling parlors for a decade
alternatively it would mean having to lock inventory trading for JP users, and valve is way too fucking lazy to implement even the most basic QoL shit
extremely funny when like 5 or so JP devs making all-ages games got their bank accounts frozen and money pocketed by valve because valve claimed to the JP bank they were using they they were selling uncensored porn overseas, which was false, this was also news earlier this year and nobody gave a shit

>>
>>749645516
It's a pro-consumer law anon, all it does is hold companies accountable to stop random shell companies from popping up, holding money, rugpulling the users, then fucking off with no accountability.
This means valve is;
A) Too stupid to do basic japanese paperwork.
B) Maliciously going to rugpull japanese users in the future.
C) More worried about hiding their grey market casino shit than the entire revenue of the JP market.
D) Going to exit gaming entirely to focus on yachts and sees no point in doing this basic paperwork.

>>
>>749645709

they are also the only reason gacha rates have to be legally correctly disclosed

Yeah instead companies can not do anything and delete funds and the jap government claps and bows as the consumer was protected from having that money.
>>
>>749645637
The gunpoint narrative is actually a sort of white washing and it went beyond that event with America. Britain for instance had multiple essentially colonies in Japan where its citizens were free from Japanese law. There were also occasions when western ships full on bombed Japan. Perry wasn't just threatening, the Japanese already had felt and knew what was coming. Maybe America, as usual, wasn't the main aggressor. But the simplification of the story as just a guy going over and the Japanese getting scared by cannons is grossly far from the reality.

Always have, Steam unlike Sony, Xbox, or Nintendo is REALLY a global company. And being a global company doesn't mean "enforce silicon valley laws and culture on everyone", quite the opposite, their platform just adapts to the law of the country they're in.

LGBT festivals or games? Not on countries where that shit is illegal.
Age restrictions on some countries? You get that too.
Some devs refuse to launch in some countries because they're fags or because of ongoing conflicts? Their loss.

So, if your country have some restriction, you only have your shithole country government to blame.

Valve is refusing to register as a legitimate business in japan anon, that's not a "japan bad" thing, that's 100% valve's fault as neither nintendo or sony have this expiry ewallet problem.
This is shit intended for mom and pop stores and rando cafes to not get raped by taxes intended to rape banks by having their "buy 10 x and get 1 x free" and similar coupons untaxed by making them expire, which doesn't affect anyone when those either get lost easily or get used within a month tops.
So why are you defending valve literally trying to operate in japan like rando lemonade stand?
>>
>>749650623
He should go back to /jp/
Also Japan glazing is no longer in style, as evidented by drop in 4chan's traffic
>>
>>749650804
akshually it is intended to rape gambling parlors, as it specifically targets funny digital money that can explicitly be used outside the issuer's own establishment or platform
in other words to use taxes to rape those rando businesses that give you pachinko points that you can just oh so conveniently exchange for real money and items at a store right besides the pachinko place
this is unironically a problem for valve due to their grey market CSGO casinos using CSGO skins as betting chips
it also is intended to regulate banks but banks can easily pay up the security deposit and call it a day
>>

4chan traffic dropped because 4chan users were harassed into caring deeply about politics and then mainstream social media sites started easing the suppression that was on their ideas that kept users here. I'm sure many of them brought their love of Japan with them although it much more easily gets drowned out by the modern internet being flooded by people who hate developed countries just because and a bunch of guys who want something weird to claim so they can make video essays off of the shock.

That and both /jp/ and /vt/ were two of the three boards (alongside the JP generals on /vg/, though some gook and chink generals too) that after the downtime simply didn't return from their "temporary" alt chan of choice.

>4chan traffic dropped because
they started banning people for pushing back against
>cultural marxism and idpol
>industry corruption and journo professional misconduct
>the lgbtranny groomer menace
>shills and astroturfers
>censorship, be it of cleavage, expression, violence and gore, setting (e.g. no high school romances), etc.
>other anti-consumer shit affecting vidya, like, streaming, cloud gaming, live-service shit, and (((identity verification)))
not to mention that legitimate threads get regularly deleted to make room for shill threads, AI garbage, blatant fanboy threads (shittendo in particular stands out), eceleb worship, etc.
We all know about the back alley deals to leave the corporate spam up
>>

being a corporate body disperses responsibility and its harder for people to get mad at something faceless. steam/valve is also a special case since they did pretty well with cultivating a fanbase of loyalists that personally identify with their brand and they protected that goodwill by boiling the frog slowly when pulling anti consumer shit

Nintendo are the masters of that. Exhibit A is download codes in a cartridge to force the goycattle to foot the bill for storage and pretend they didn't take away game ownership
Worst of all is the brigades of shills they send accompanying every release. Every actual Yoshifag either laughed at or lamented the kiddy mysterious book non-game

third parties asked for goycards anon, and this is after nintendo told them to fuck off with their voucher cart habit on the switch 1 where they would buy 1gb carts and make you download the entire game as an update
it is also to stop code in box shit
then again not like westoids would would actually understand how proconsumer moves work when they would happily sell off their rights if it meant sticking it up to da chud weebs
>>
talking about shit that expires after 6 months in japan, the code found in "physical" copies of gta vi there expire after 170 days after they are issued

The games with keycards for the Switch 2 would've never had anything physical otherwise in most cases. It always felt like a fake issue from the moment they were announced. People nowadays can't take anything (successor to popular console) as good and must look for a problem (a form of distribution for some games).

>People nowadays can't take anything (successor to popular console) as good and must look for a problem (a form of distribution for some games).
people happily pretend the ps4 and ps5 were successes despite losing to the switch 1 and switch 2 respectively
it all comes down to hating japan as ordered by their kike masters, it's that simple, westoids these days are not even trying to hide it anymore either, look at this thread

Then they should have told them to go with digital instead of doing digital but worse

I flip skins from rust and have funded nearly every steam purchase with it for about 6 years now
this would be very annoying if it happened here in the west

its digital but better because you can actually lend it to friends and family, unlike the competition, especially valve

it better be because they are renting you licenses too instead of giving you a physical ownership option

Look up the concept of private face and public face. Most modern conservatives aren't prudes. Prudishness in general is something that ebbs and flows in countries and is usually bipartisan.

once upon a time in the west this was called "not being a dumb fuck and separating your private and public affairs"
too bad westoid goyim are too stupid to understand such a simple concept these days and will happily blurt out what they fap to in professional envioriments, including AAA all-ages gaming

Japan is one of the most draconian places of nightmarish levels of paperwork and legal stipulations that make American management look like child's play on the technical level. If you gotta deal with whiny manchildren managers in the west, it's straight up unmovable tenure and a refusal to budge on anything ever in the east.
>>

So conservatives are into scat?

I would expect THE platform for PC gaming with a literal functional monopoly on the PC hardware space and worth billions in yachts to be able to do something even sony and google can do.
There's people you can literally hire for this job, in case your westoid ass wasn't aware.

If it truly were the same as physical, you wouldn't need to buy SD cards and they'd work on any system regardless of ban status

I do find it weird how people will just be so openly obsessive about their sexual habits and desires even in professional spaces. And weirder that this forced these institutions to find a place to land on where it is safe vs problematic and that this somehow became that some of the most deranged and depraved stuff in the world is safe while more mundane fantasies held by those who are often less forceful are treated with intense scrutiny. I hate hearing about the latest terrible thing that has been depicted in media while knowing that even liking something cute can have people harass you nowadays, mass hysteria.

For whatever reason japan is always ahead of the times, their obsessive and borderline antisocial separation of private tastes and work/school/social life into separate boxes made them adapt fairly quickly to social media with only attention whore retards suffering the brunt of the problems.
Which is very funny due to westoids always claiming japan is too collectivist and hates individuality.
Meanwhile in the west you have literal hordes of ideological cultists in the literal sense of the word forcing people to comply with their faggotry and even attacking people in corporate and professional environments over petty social and personal bullshit, and westoids will still claim they aren't collectivist drones that hate individuality.

/vt/ was really the only board affected. Not going to count all the /vt/ generals that refused to move out of /jp/ finally evacuating as an indicator of the boards health, especially since the board went back to pre-vtuber levels. /jp/'s recent downturn is due to the mods forcing threads to autosage after a certain period of time because one of the /vt/ generals still on it was bumping other threads to archive their thread as some weird baking ritual. Got rid of a lot of fake traffic and helped clean months old dead threads of no significance off the catalog. /jp/s board culture is weird, constant one post touhou threads. I wonder what /mu/'s activity would look like if the kpop generals moved.
