From years of browsing, I have learned that few people around these parts actually value anonymity, or at least the veil in which 4chan presents it. I find it most convenient myself, as no matter who or what I become, so long as I offer some sort of value to the thread i'm browsing, there's a chance for it to be appreciated. In a climate where it is often highlighted that one's whims can potentially destroy your chances at ever providing for your peers, your 3rd place, your 2nd home, no matter the quality of your work, sounds soul crushing to me. Admittedly, I did call that a veil, the more paranoiac, neurodivergent may not even be able to bear the idea of others' pattern recognition, or a site owner's past putting them at risk, and so on, but still, I personally find it invaluable. I simply do not care for who you are or what you may have done. In this transactional exchange of gaming infos, original content, culture, and so on, you are what you post. That is my ideal. It may be one that's very easy to abuse, flawed, or morally questionable, but I stand by it. Unrelated to the idea above, but while I am thankful for the UI & general design of imageboards, it is undeniably a desktop friendly interface. I abhor phoneposting to this day, but I can't deny that it is a large part of this site's traffic. I would assume that on such a small screen, the amount of information you have access to is much more limited, neutering one of the big draws of 4chan and imageboards.I do not frequent enough young people to really know of any generational shift in regards to the value of anonymity, I can only assume growing in a web 3.0 Internet ought to shape you in such a way that may be unfavorable to ever visiting 4chan. The board simply isn't fit for them or their culture. There was always cynicism, there were always trolls, but everyone, and I mean EVERYONE who was willing to have a conversation in good faith just because they had enough interest to do so has been driven away. One by one, they all closed out of their last dogshit thread for the last time. I'm getting old, and I'm way past tired. My waters are receding. When I think about the site I used to visit, I know it was in a very different world. I had a favorite private server in my favorite shooter where I knew everybody's name. I could count on E3 being dogshit, but the threads being good. Pop culture wasn't one bullshit battle after another. You either liked something, or you didn't care about it. Fuck the rest. I spend less and less time here, and while part of me knows that's for the best, mostly I'm just sad to see things end up this way.
