Just finished Dispatch

Why the fuck did so many people decide to forgive Sonar after he joined the bad guy faction, acted as a main villain against you, and even passed on a chance to join you again?

A big part of the game's theme is redemption. They were all villains who repeatedly fucked up in the past, but they found each other at what should be the lowest point of their lives. So forgiving Sonar/Coop at the end of the day after cutting them loose fits the feel-good theme of the ending and gets the whole team back together.

Granted, you're only given the option to forgive them if you manage to beat their boss fight and don't let them cause too much chaos, which at least gives the dispatching segments some sort of narrative consequence.
>>
>>749650250
This works when the villians at least try to be good. They were ready to cut Invisigirl for going on the ship mission by herself because it put the team at risk, but sonar was actively working against them. I felt it made no narrative sense, especially when you ask him one last time before the fight to help you and he doesnt.

I get where you're coming from as well. It is much the same case in Coupe's case had you cut her instead. She tortures Robert, wreaks havok on Torrance, likely killing dozens of people, etc.

Yeah, it's a bit rushed, but it is a game about second chances. And it's probably easier for the devs to do anything with them if they ever make a second season this way.

Moralfags gonna moralfag.
>>
>>749650250
It's absurdly difficult to defend Sonar or the niggress even when you're the nambiest-pambiest of moralfags like myself, consider he (or she, depending on who you fired) literally try to sadistically torture and murder you in cold-blood as well as every single person you know (including their former friends) not to mention committing mass murder terrorist bombings of civilians
nigger, I should be allowed to put a bullet through these cunts' heads, fuck batman
>>
I really liked how they handled Phenomaman. The first time I saw him I thought it was going to be another "what if superman was EVIL?!" thing and play into the Invincible thing.

This
>immediately joins red ring, the most notorious villain group
>helps kidnap and torture you and begging Shroud to let him murder you
>commits to massive city-wide terrorist attack killing hundreds of people
>leads the main assault against you
>attacks you and Blonde Blazer
>even after all this ask him one last time to stop this and join the heros to fight Shroud
>he immediately rejects this and tries to kill you both
>"b-but everyone needs a second chance!"
literally suicidal empathy. Even invisigirl for all her faults tries to help you as an anti hero after you cut her.
>>
>>749651047
>killing hundreds of people
It's comic book logic but they don't actually show your old teammate killing anyone

Same. I guess due to the nature of the episodes length there was only so much time but I wish there had been a moment between Robert and Phenomaman. Where you helped him build his confidence back up in some way.

Mandy!
>>
>>749650875
Yeah, I like how the story more of a reconstruction of superhero tropes.
Phenomaman is not "Superman but evil" he's a genuinely good person, he's just an autist.
Blazer isn't a manipulative traitor, she's genuinely pure-hearted and idealistic, she's just shy and awkward when she's not putting up her superhero front. She's the best reconstruction of Superman since the Gunn version.

AAHHHHHH, SHE’S TEMPORARILY GAVE ME JUNGLE FEVER
>>
>>749651831
That's my main issue with the narrative. The story focuses so hard on Invisigal, other characters feel shafted and undercooked as a result.
And most of them were more interesting than Invisigal, IMO.
>>
>>749651915
The gameplay was fun except for hacking. I should've just put infinite retries. It also sucked when they started using symbols for rewards and penalties for going past certain skill levels.

That's my gripe as well. Which is really strange how the creatives behind it like Nick Herman were surprised she was the "popular girl". They pretty much made her the deuteragonist in the overall plot though he claims that wasn't the intention, who knows what's true. Either way, I hope with season 2 that Invisigal gives the spotlight to the rest of the team. Like you said, they are far more interesting even if it just comes down to their gimmicks on the surface. I think there's plenty of room for potential in exploring everyone in Z-team in some way. We kind of got that with Flambae in episode 5 with Robert flashing back to his battle between him. Stuff like that could be so interesting to witness unfold.

Because the general consensus so far seems to be: Invisigal had her season, now give us more Mandy/Flambae/Malevola.

>now give us more Mandy/Flambae/Malevola.
The feeling is mutual. Though I fear we won't get anything more with Flambae at least beyond his comedic antics. Which I could tolerate but if you ask me, he does have potential as another love interest.

Though I know people would throw a fit if that were to happen. Which is definitely unlikely. At the very least if we get some fanservice moments like some tasteful shots of his body I would be alright with that. Same goes for Malevola.

But onto the actual love interests. Mandy has to be given her moment to shine. It's the least they could do.
>>
>>749658602
>If S2
IF season 2 ever gets released, it will very likely be a time skip.
>>
>>749659327
How far would they be willing to go as time skips are concerned? I was thinking maybe a year or two. Seeing SDN Torrance back in operation with everything more or less repaired. Robert now has his suit back and leads the Z-team not only as a dispatcher but as a superhero alongside them. That's just what I imagine. For all we know they could focus on a new cast of characters. Which would be frustrating for many if that's the case.
>>
>>749659403
Long enough that the Z-team, Robert and Mandy are no longer a part of the story. Maybe they'll get a mention or cameo or two but it doesn't seem like the developers want to make a direct sequel.
Invisigal being the more popular choice really crawled under their skin.
>>
>>749659669
That would kind of suck if it does revolve around a new cast of characters. I wouldn't mind if it were a spin off. But a good portion why Dispatch gathered its following was thanks to these characters even if their presence in the story was dwarfed by Invisigal.

Yeah, the girl who supposedly "fell in love" with the first guy that was even tangentally nice to her is going to be more loyal than a girl that was stuck for years in a loveless relationship because she didn't want to hurt her partner's feelings.

>generic "I can fix her" girl
You have no standards.
>>
>>749661608
There's much more to her though. She has an actual character arc, personality, motives, there's depth to her. If you don't get it and only think that her appeal is 'I can fix her' then I don't know what to tell you, because her romance route is interesting even if you fail to fix her.
>>
What do you think Malevola's braps are like?
>>
>>749661729
Her personality is literally Jack from Mass Effect 2. The most generic "I can fix her" archetype out there.
And her motivations make no sense. It's telling that you need to use headcanon to explain her bullshit from Episode 6 onwards.
>>
>>749661931
I haven't played ME2 so I can't tell how apt that comparison is, but the 'I can fix her' aspect wasn't the main thing that drew me to her character. She's fun. She and Robert have great banter. She's flawed, yeah, but that makes her human. You could take away the whole 'I'm destined to be a villain' subplot, therefore mostly deleting the 'I can fix her' aspect, and I would still like her the most.
>It's telling that you need to use headcanon to explain her bullshit from Episode 6 onwards.
Writing in ep 7 and 8 is strange, yeah, but the only unclear thing about her motivation is why she didn't gave the pulse to Robert. Apart from that, it's pretty clear I believe.
>>
>>749662084
>but the only unclear thing about her motivation is why she didn't gave the pulse to Robert.
Yeah, that's the entire crux of Episode 6,7 and 8 that the entire story hinges on. It's an apocalypitically bad writing when the writers can't explain why the characters are doing things outside of "it's good for cheap drama".
>>
>>749661554
If you've dated anyone close to resembling her you'd know they're not at all worth it.
>>
>>749649972
Because they ran out of budget and just pieced together the final act out of whatever they had, which is why Visi is on some 5d chess of being a triple, if not more, agent if you take everything at face value and to it's logical conclusion during the final fight and then the big reveal after.

>modern westoid capeshit

>>749662909
That and they apparently changed the narrative around Visi, because she WAS supposed to be a backstabbing traitor.
But they were allegedly afraid of the backlash, because Visifags were convinced their girl is a dindu, while Blazer is a no-good-evil traitor. When the obvious traitor was always obvious.
So, now we have this half-assed half-measure, where Visi is a traitor, but isn't and nothing makes sense.
>>
>>749663058
>because she WAS supposed to be a backstabbing traitor.
Now that's just your headcanon. Backstabbing how? We never see her working against Robert or the Z-Team, but she fights against Red Ring and Shroud. Again, it's just the pulse thing that makes no sense, but she did want to return it in the end anyway.
>But they were allegedly afraid of the backlash, because Visifags were convinced their girl is a dindu, while Blazer is a no-good-evil traitor.
They haven't made any changes to the story after the game was released though, what we got is what they made, they couldn't predict any backlash. Not to mention that the entire script was leaked day one and at least here on /v/ we knew how it will turn out. I don't really recall anyone expecting Blazer to be a straight out traitor, there were theories that she will be Shroud's daughter or something like that, unless you are talking about fucking redditors.
>>
>>749649972
I kicked his bitch ass off the team the second I could and sent his ass to prison just so that I won't have to hear Charlie's insufferable voice "acting" anymore.
>>
>>749663227
>We never see her working against Robert or the Z-Team
She's literally under Shroud's payroll but ok.
>>
>>749663580
That's what Shroud says, literally 5 minutes after she sticks a bomb to his mech and is seen fighting Red Ring members. If you take it at face value then it makes absolutely no sense. There is also no case of Shroud and Red Ring having an advantage over Z-Team that could be only explained by Visi working for them. It's a retarded subplot, but even if we assume that it's true, then again, it doesn't really make Visi a traitor because she doesn't do anything treacherous, quite the opposite, she actively tries to help Robert and the team.
>>
>>749663739
>because she doesn't do anything treacherous
Oh, please.
She allows the RR goon to escape multiple times, even sabotaging her own teammates to do it.
She sows discord among the group by guiltripping Robert into admitting he's Mechaman to Flambae, hoping he would kill him.
She hides the pulse from Robert, preventing him from entering the suit, which enables RR to attack LA.
She's either a traitor or a very dumb useful idiot.
>>
>>749664061
She prevents Mal from capturing him, but it's pretty clear that she just wants to sabotage *her*, not help *him*. She captures him herself the very next episode.
>She sows discord among the group by guiltripping Robert into admitting he's Mechaman to Flambae, hoping he would kill him.
Now you are just fucking baiting.
>preventing him from entering the suit, which enables RR to attack LA.
While RR attacks the city Robert's priority is dispatching, not playing hero. It's not like he could prevent the attack singlehandely. Visi then brings the pulse to the workshop anyway, she doesn't run away with it, it was never her intention. Even in the bad ending she gives him the pulse at the very end. Again, the whole pulse thing is retarded and caused by cuts and time/budget restrains.
Visi wasn't written as a traitor character. Sonar and Coupe were.

The entire premise of the story is dumb when you think about it. In the very first scene we see Toxic in Robert's apartment, where he keeps the pulse in a fucking key bowl. Why did Shroud orchestrated the entire scheme, baiting Robert into the workshop, making Visi plant the bomb and allowing Robert to fly away and explode in the sky, causing the pulse to get lost, instead of simply telling Toxic to use his superpowers in Robert's apartment, fuck him up and take the pulse? So yeah, judging a character by one or two instances of flawed storywriting is kinda dumb, because the entire story is flawed.
