Basically if they learn to recomp everything to Linux and nothing from the original code is used I don't see a legal problem especially since you aren't selling the new software.
Hell if you actually make some changes to the game like make the protagonist attractive and change some stupid feminist dialogue the entire thing becomes transformative art.
>>
you need to pay for the subscription to do that
I'm not paying for that just to pirate, don't be retarded now
>>
>>749656115
Doesn’t it still use the code?
>>
>>749656115
You'll still need copyright to redistribute the graphical assets.
>>
>>749656115
>I don't see a legal problem
That’s because you’re a retard. Even as “clean room” software (with AI this is literally impossible because you don’t know what’s in the dataset but we’ll ignore that for the sake of argument), it is still illegal to clone software. I guarantee these adobe clones are going to get struck down when they go to court.
>>
>>749656352
Sure but the finished project won't have any of the original code and if you actually change the game significantly it's basically something new.
I can paint another painting and if I cahge enough it's a new artwork
>>
>>749656168
I feel like this is the big elephant in the room everyone is missing.
It all costs, and at current rates is still losing money.
Everyone will need to start paying out the ass at some point in the future.
>>
You guys were right about AIjeets
>>
>>749656359
Not if they are different.
So basically the protagonist will be in everything and if that's different nothing will be the same
>>
My guy, you're a retard. These still require the game files which you either dump yourself or pirate. I've dumped my own games but do you think the average nigger is going to? lmao
>>
>>749656475
Yep, AI isn’t bringing you new innovations. It’s just a new tool for stealing from the hard working people and general scamming.
>>
>>749656437
That's why I said change the game and some dialogue.
At that point it's not a clone
>>
>>749656537
It’s just piracy with extra steps. You’re banking on meeting some minimal legal threshold of transformative while copying literally every other aspect of a game. You’re just a leech.
>>
>>749656453
Watch the law change quicksmart on this point
>>
>>749656592
Maybe but it's ok by legal definition.
Look at cars they are basically the same with just some cosmetic differences.
Everyone does it so why shouldn't we?
Games have been taking from eachother for decades.
Why are you so pro on helping companies that ruined everything?
>>
>>749656614
Who actually cares in reality?
They won't be able to implement it since if you make a million versions there would have to be a million lawsuits because copyright is a case by case situation that needs to be judged individually.
>>
>>749656863
Again, watch the law change.
It always follows economic realities and needs.
>>
>>749656793
You do understand where in a world where such a precedent would be set as legally acceptable, no one would make games anymore, right? Everything would just be a slopped up copy of a copy and no one would care about video games anymore.
>>
>>749656529
Oh I don't care about any of that shit, it's just that they're completely retarded
>>
>>749656793
>Why are you so pro on helping companies that ruined everything?
I care about video games as a craft and this would be an end to all of that. It wouldn’t stop with the corporatization of video games and the woke sloppa, it would kill video games entirely. My question to you is why you would want that unless you’re just some leech looking for short term gains?
>>
>>749656115
Unlike slopcomps, when you pirate shit it might actually work.
>>
>>749656914
How ?
If you give them the ability to sue any similar software the entire industry would sue eachother.
Most software is very similar
>>
>>749656115
>I don't see a legal problem
trademarked words picture and sounds in the games. And no the whole "I have a copy of that iso to get them from the CD" isn't a legal argument at all, not sure where this nonsense comes from.
>>
>>749656921
Yes they would but they wouldn't be made by corporations just gamers using AI.
Or everyone would just tell AI what games they want and pay a subscription for what it generated.
>>
>>749657006
Companies have sued over other companies cloning their software and won. Cloning in the sense of merely reimplementing all the functionality. I’d imagine AI slop would just broaden the definition.
>>
>>749656985
Indie games will keep going and gaming would be better then ever since anyone that would still make games would be people that are doing it out of passion not money.
>>
>>749657004
Are you assuming that a concept that appeared 4 months ago will forever be bad?
>>
>>749657068
Asking claude to make you a game defeats the point for people who actually give a shit about quality and the crafts. You will have a billion idea guys with shitty bad ideas and poorly implemented slop and 4 billion more scammers just looking to steal something and all the people who care or work hard will just keep to themselves and won’t release their games. You aren’t freeing yourself from AAA this way, you are actually just killing video games entirely.
>>
>>749657068
God, these faggots really do just want to mindlessly comsume hogshit
>>
>>749657067
And a filter to the entire thing like dlss5 and basically not a single pixel in the game will match the original
>>
>>749657136
people doing it out of passion aren’t going to want to see a sea of third worlders just copy and resell their game lmao

slop begets slop and everyone cares less
>>
>>749657072
It's not going to be a clone.
Anyway the industry is over no matter what you think in a couple of years all their security systems will fail and everything will be available
>>
>>749657136
The indie devs doing it out of passion have been making games for the past 20+ years. The people that wanna shit things out with AI don't have passion, if they did they'd have learned how to do it before generative AI.
>>
>>749657006
Off the top of my head, something like the DMCA where you can allege infringement and put the onus on the other party to escalate to some kind formal review if they want to fight it.
Maybe throw some AI analysis of similarities in there to help it along.
>>
>>749657183
You will make the game so if it's bad it's your fault.
>>
>>749657280
wow great, the future sure doesn’t sound bleak

I am so happy AI is here to ruin everything for everyone and punish people who just want to make unique and interesting things
>>
>>749657192
Yes I want to play my own stupid ideas and I'm bored with big corpo slop
>>
>>749657230
Passion doesn't have a financial incentive.
You basically do it for free but I know a capitalist can't understand the concept.
Get use to it .
>>
>>749657339
No one who makes a game the hard way will share. The last people doing it out of passion and not using AI are simply not going to share their games. In which case, the games may as well not exist. All that will be left is “transformative” copies aka scams.
>>
>>749657284
Those people need to learn to use AI and start making bigger games

You know how no one has cared about a single thing AI has produced since its inception beyond the novelty of it? That is the future of video games you have resigned yourself to. A turd shit out by claude in an afternoon could be the best game you’ve ever played but you’re not gonna care about it. It’s just something to throw away. This is the future you want.
>>
>>749657412
No you will have to talk to AI and tell it what kind of game you want

Ai is the death of piracy since all future games will be cloud only
No binary for you to touch
>>
>>749656168
>>749656460
The exact opposite will happen in the future.
The computing power requirement to do this process at the same effort as right now will stay the same, which means it will eventually be possible to do it with local agents as consumer hardware is still expected to get better.

The big question is if they will try to stop this from happening by sabotaging the consumer / prosumer hardware market so that they can sell you subscriptions.
>>
>>749657514
I would rather waste 5 years of my life then have an AI build me something in an afternoon. If I gave up my intelligence to a machine, would defeat the point entirely.

It's not the calculator that kills it, it's the people using the calculator. You can solve the Millennium Prize Problems, but there's no goddamn point if you just shortcut to the destination. The meaning in solving them comes from the work required to demonstrate human ingenuity and contribute to the collective font of human knowledge and growth.

I want highly curated experiences. I want dives into the depths of author and artist autism as I explore their worldviews and see the domains of their minds. I want to play on specially-designed playgrounds that test if I can understand what the creators were doing. I want to conquer the challenges they give me.

And I DON'T want low-effort slop from idiots who don't understand the first thing about creating these things and just ask the genie-in-a-black-box to do it for them. That's not the contours of the soul, that's a cheap Chinese knockoff. Literally soulless, in the purest sense.
>>
>>749661283
That's irrelevant. If it's whole value is based on the assumption that someone else should not be using a tool, then it's worthless to begin with. If it had actual value and meaning then you wouldn't be scared of a "cheap Chinese knockoff" as it wouldn't hold any power over it to begin with.
>>
>>749661669
It's not irrelevant. The issue is that tools are made for specific purposes, while LLMs are not, and their purposes are constantly expanded to encompass more and more features and knowledge. If programming is using a scythe to cut down a wheat field, using AI is to destroy the field using an EF5 tornado. The field is still cut down, the end result is similar, but there was no value in the process to do it.
>>
>>749656437
Not until they lobby to change the current law. Which they will try to do.

>>749656115

I don't really understand this argument. Feels like you are just clinging to old ideas of anthropocentrism. It doesn't destroy the field, it destroys the human involvement. And humans aren't some special perfect beings at the peak of evolution, who are entitled to everything. That's just not how this world works. Evolution never stops and entropy can only increase.

>>749662039
It's nothing special, it's literally just math, and a pretty old math too. We just accidentally found out that calculators we currently have are good enough to do stuff with it.
>>
>>749661908
Oh Jesus Christ, this shit again.

Go do some actual coding before you judge others for using AI. You’ll quickly understand why it is that your performative virtue signaling doesn’t impress anyone who actually does this shit on a regular basis.
>>
>>749662390
>it destroys the human involvement. And humans aren't some special perfect beings at the peak of evolution, who are entitled to everything
uhh, yes they are? art generated by a machine cannot have value because the purpose of art it communication on a deep, personal level. even if an AI can trick you into perceiving something as made by a human, it is ultimately a trick, it isn’t art. in your own words it’s just a pointless math algorithm
>>
>>749662413
I DO actual programming. I learn the data structures, the algorithms, the logic. It takes a long time to produce something of quality, but the result is worth it. I can also shit out something comparable with ChatGPT and learn nothing along the way.

When the end result is output, the means don't matter, and you enslave yourself to productivity. And then it becomes completely meaningless.
>>
>>749662413
I program for fun and the act of using an LLM defeats the point. I’m just spinning in place and rotting at that point. It is anti-intellectual.
>>
>>749662390
>Feels like you are just clinging to old ideas of anthropocentrism. It doesn't destroy the field, it destroys the human involvement. And humans aren't some special perfect beings at the peak of evolution, who are entitled to everything.
What the fuck do you think tools are MADE for? They exist to make human life easier. Humans are always at the center of tool use. They are the end users. There's no point to an LLM making art for another LLM. Meaning is instilled by humanity alone, we are the only creatures in the universe capable of that.
>>
>>749662808
no, you don’t understand. i can make anything with claude, and then I can make claude play the game and tell me what I thought of it. and then I can run claude in a loop to create an n set of video games for all potential video games and it can play them for me and then …why do I care about video games again???

intelligence should be left to humans. anything else is just absurd
>>
>>749662616
I’m not disagreeing with you, but using the AI to print lines of code and learning how to write it yourself are not mutually exclusive. I use it to help me wrap my head around algorithms I don’t understand and for advice on improving.

I haven’t used the more advanced/demanding features yet because I haven’t needed to. Is it actually good enough to shit our entire programs now that successfully run without any issues? I’ve had it do some extremely low level work here and there, but nothing as advanced as a full-fledged and self-contained application.
>>
>>749662904
Benchmarks showing LLMs playing videogames are so funny to me because like, what's the point? Claude Plays Pokemon was fun because we got to watch the AI struggle. We anthropomorphized it. The journey was interpreted by us. But now Claude is so efficient it can beat Pokemon games with no harness in less than a week. So it's not fun anymore. The goal was reached so quickly that it became meaningless.

And that's the same with LLMs playing other games. What's the point? An LLM won't find it fun, it's just a task to complete.
>>
>>749662972
>but using the AI to print lines of code and learning how to write it yourself are not mutually exclusive
one actively hinders you and decays your skills while the other makes you improve. humans take the path of least resistance. LLMs are just an intellectual cancer. if you actually cared about self improvement and code quality you would avoid them like the plague. it’s only the shortsighted that see the immediate gains that flock to them

What are you talking about. Someone pays for the original game, sharing original code or breaking drm is piracy. If they change it to be transformative, sharing work containing copyrights or trademarks is punishable without permission. Changing all that will make the game very different, people would still want and play the original. But yes you can mostly rewrite the code with ai to make it copyright free, it will cost you a ton of compute/tokens for a complex game, unlike swapping assets and doing small changes.

pic unrelated
>>
>>749663098
Did you even read the rest of what I wrote? Anon, coding is not something the average person can do without very detailed instructions. Very, VERY detailed instructions. It’s not like playing a musical instrument or drawing where at some intuitive level you can gradually teach yourself how to improve. How the fuck can you expect to write a program in Java if you don’t even know the syntax? Where would you acquire that information?

The AI at the very fucking LEAST gives you an accessible means for getting started if you don’t know where else to begin or how else to proceed. I seriously wonder what the fuck you are even coding that is making you so uppity about personal progress.
>>
>>749663427
>How the fuck can you expect to write a program in Java if you don’t even know the syntax? Where would you acquire that information?
A textbook? Did school teach you nothing? If something is confusing you, read the manual for it. Whatever that manual may be.
>>
>>749663427
I used to use LLMs as a replacement for google search and even for snippets of code, but the way things are going and the state of the software industry over the last year has lead me to this conclusion and caused me to disconnect entirely. It is better to do your own research, genuinely. Go read some fag’s blogpost or something. Or don’t. You’d be surprised how far you can get from first principles, even on knowledge domains that were built over decades that you have no hope of finding the answer for by yourself. It’s honestly not a bad idea to waste a week trying to figure something out on your own before even doing any preliminary research. It is genuinely the best way people learn things. Memorizing/trying to understand some solution you found is not. Immerse yourself in the problem.
>>
>>749656921
>You do understand where in a world where such a precedent would be set as legally acceptable, no one would make games anymore, right?

>>
>>749663657
From what I can tell, the only difference between reading the code written by the AI and reading the code written in a textbook is that it takes less time to find what you’re looking for using an LLM. I’m not convinced that spending your time digging through a textbook for a solution is more virtuous than having it spelled out for you in perfect detail within seconds by something you can communicate your confusion/concerns to directly.

Anon, I’m sorry but this is genuinely horrible advice for anyone who is actually trying to meet deadlines and learn at the pace expected by academia and presumably in industry. Taking 500 years to figure out how to do something that can be discovered instantly with the right tool isn’t virtuous; it’s masturbation.

there is no more academia and the industry no longer wants you to learn. you have to do it for yourself and learning is a struggle. you aren’t going to absorb the information unless you actually work the problem out

humans aren’t perfect, but to not care about human art and human labor shows a profound hatred for humans and the human condition. machines are machines.

Yes, I know. I don’t know why keep making it seem like I am disregarding that.

You do know that you can ask an LLM to help spell out an algorithm for you, right? Like, so you can understand it better if you are confused about something?

my whole point is that just being told something goes in one ear and out the other. retention comes from doing, not listening or copying

So you're ship of thesseus'ing media?

A lot of recomps still need the original game to work.

I don't see you care much about cave painting either. Does that mean you hate ancestors of humanity? Humans aren't something special, it's just an instinct to place yourself at the center of the universe.

I would argue that part of “doing” is asking an LLM for help. Obviously if you just copy + paste whatever it gives you without even trying to read it or scrutinize it yourself, then you won’t learn anything.

Assuming that is how everyone is using it is extremely disingenuous. I don’t use it like that unless I have no choice. I ask the LLM to walk me through what I don’t understand, then practice more on my own until I feel like I understand the concept.
