>>749662875Surprised Baxter ended up being my favourite squad member. Would be my favourite character in the game if not for my absolute lads the Immortals.
Debating on whether to get to doing all my S ranks on Ace difficulty or if I should wait until we get some DLC cause if they do DLC and I've already cleared the game, not sure if I'd have the motivation to do more.
>AC8 DLC comes out set post game>First chunk of it is one big cutscene where you go on furlough with the squad>Kate gives Tasha and Coster money to go to the movies and wants to spend time alone with Rex by going on a dinner date>Interrupted by an Enso drone strike>Scramble to find aircraft, only stuff immediately ready to fly are some outdated F-5's>Beat drones back and track them to an underground facility>Tunnel run mission happens>Destroy what was left of Enso>Cutscene picks up with them finishing previous date>Ends with prompt "press X to kiss Kate"
>no one even mourns Cope except for Kate after she loses her entire squad
Cope should had been recovered and turned into a cyborg plane by enso. and in the end he would had crashed into tewy.
>>749663281Do we know how much time passed between the prologue and the first mission? There's no way they cleared you to fly on the same day that you got downed twice, right? Maybe they were all already done mourning by the time you step up to be the new wings.
>Give every reason for DD to be the traitor >it isnt him>he's one of the real ones who has your back the entire game>is appalled by what HE'S actually goal is>learns that once he drops the tricks and shows the truth, people give a damn and wings finally goes viral and unites people like he always wantedMy big question is, will he or his family's company play a big role in the next AC?

The XO was desperate to put you in a plane, but the medic wouldn't allow it before checking for brain damage. If it was a quick check-up you wouldn't have been Cope's WSO. D.D. also had some things prepared like painting Cope's emblem on your plane, so it couldn't possibly be on the same day.

>>749664437Honestly I don't get the seething. I S-ranked the mission first try even if it was somewhat annoying.Just use your machine gun.
>>749664790MPBM after Zero isn't great, but it's worse against fast movers because MPBM's explosion causes lingering damage, so Ladons and other things will take minimal damage since they just leaveThe initial explosion is pretty good but you'd want to use SASM for more impact, and save MPBM for ground targets, slow movers or furballs
>>749664616>Do any of our languages exist, or is it a middle earth kinda deal? It's inconsistent. Yuktobanian in AC5 sounds like an off-beat mix of Slavic languages. Erusean seems like it's straight up just French. Belkan *sounds* German but I'm confident it's not actually 1:1.

Is Trigger the Giga chuuni among AC aces? It took me seeing his car to realize that he got the LRSSG crew to paint his markings just cause he liked his nickname so much.

Very fun but definitely under 3k.
>>749664616Yeah, to an extent. The 'Zvezda' skin for the F18 has 'Yuktobanian' writing on it in Russian Cyrllic. That and other names being taken from certain cultures and languages. Its somewhat strange insofar as every plane has its warning decals and whatnot in its own language, so who makes the Russian planes? Yukes? But everyone has Russian planes, same goes for the Japanese planes like the F-2. I guess its just not something you're meant to overthink, since they want the planes to look as realistic as possible even if it doesn't make a lot of sense in universe.
>>749667718I mean his TAC was always trigger, but I get what you mean with the strikes. Clearly a "Yeah I had a prison arc I'm cool" choice to change the strikes to claw marks. Or they just had a based artist in the hangar.
>>749664616What the others said, but as a basic matter of fact if not defacto practice: I mean the planes are all fucking covered in cyrillic/English/French. So unless they're like magic flying runes in the strangereal universe they exist in -some- form.
>>749667279Yup, Rafale is the best plane in the base tree for its special weapons. When I can't S-rank a mission with my Raptor, I go for the Rafale. Plane performance generally doesn't matter too much in AC8, it's the weapon and parts loadout that makes the difference. I'd say it's really only between the starter and endgame planes do you see a palpable difference, especially in maneuvering and defense.
Post the brats
does Tasha own a Yuktobanian air frier
>>749667949Parts are, at least by my personal experience/fact definitely much more influential than in 7. They weren't nothing in 7, but flap parts really help turn lunks into serviceable and non PSM planes into still being able to turn on a dime. I like how there's specific weapon parts now. I didn't fucking use them usually because it's all for stuff I don't generally use (except the SFFS one) but I like the idea.

>cool plane livery>cool uniforms>cool emblems>catchy theme songMan, if S*toans weren't such huge pieces of shit the Shadows would have been amazingly popular.
>>749668056You know they did parts right in AC8 when I go out of my way to change the loadout every single mission. And they make a big difference too. My favorite parts are both gun upgrades, extra durability plating thingy, and the maneuverability and top speed parts. Then I fill the slots with the weapon-specific parts like you said.

>>749668269I don't like Shadows, if only because after the first Shadow squad you know what to expect. Asides from all having the same plane colours they're all pretty much the same personality wise. Compare that with Zero which had each squad have more personality based on their squad emblem, dialogue, livery and live action interview segments. The bones is there to make enemy ace squads as good as Zero, at least.
>>749668106She is made to share a room with Kate. She isn't trusted to be on her own.
>>749668281Me too. It's pretty much as important a factor as plane choice now, even little stuff like whether you want to focus on making your standard missiles compensate for focusing on ground specials by sticking the air-combat guidance part on. Very much an improvement from the simpler basic options for 7. Hell even the de-icer feels like it actually is worth it for a couple of missions. I like specific type allocation over just having a total parts limit from 7 too (with the whole "some parts cost more in total thing too") This way I generally always have space to bring some must-haves but experiment elsewhere.
>>749668371100% Unsurprised. Dad's probably watching her with her one allowed and non-toxic Yukotbanian pen(Provided by Enso), eats like three a week otherwise.
>>749662419They still haven't explained how Strangereal has Italian food
>>749668269I mostly agree, but I wouldn't be surprised if I see various "Haha AC8 summary" videos/greentext of someone putting in their little chant every five seconds as it has that "team rocket must do the team rocket theme tune every time they appear" thing going on. But this is all incredibly anal nitpicking. I like the overall effect. Maybe if there was few variations instead of, unless I'm deaf: Exact same .wav each time. Maybe get some toddlers to chant it for Gemma squad.
>>749668559Just localizers being funny. Actually the series in general has pretty bad localization, to this day.
>>749668834Baxter's "ur mom" and "are they even humans" comments made me realize that perhaps the localization wasn't as faithful as I thought it might have been initially
>>749668971>Localizers: Listen we know culturally the western audience wouldn't have been able to accept the racist Japanese depiction of Baxter as competent and able to not call sotoans fucking goatfuckers to their face.
>>749667848My headcanon is that the export market for planes is a lot more relaxed in Strangereal, so Yuktobania makes tens of thousands of Sukhois for export and Osea has no issues selling the F-22 to whoever will pay for it.
>>749669096That's fair, it's uh, pretty clear as well it's not just the planes but the funny special weapons, and a tank just seems to be a tank-brand tank most of the time. With cute exceptions.

AC8 wingmen rated by their in game AI I have observed from best to worst.1) KateActually can engage Shadows on her own and win. She even does this when part of Queen flight in the few missions you both engage Shadows together. She also does a good job covering you and again does this even when still part of Queen flight.2) CosterSurprised me a few times when I was swarmed by missiles by flying straight through them and popping flares to break missile lock for me. He's also very quick on the trigger meaning he's about the only other wingman that you can count on in a fight to shoot down Sotoans.3) BaxterTries to do the same as Coster but not as good at shooting down Sotoans, probably because he spends too much time cursing them before opening fire.4) TashaExhibits really annoying behaviors that seem neat on paper but are counterproductive in practice like herding enemies towards you so you can get an easy shot on them which isn't good if you are already surrounded.
>>749680978Belkans are tech savants that got rolled over by nothing more than sheer numbers and one plot armored motherfucker. When it came to weapons, they were completely unmatched.
>>749680372We were talking about Kate?Kate flies an F-18C pre-Joker flight and King flight she has an F/A-18F
>>749681212They can all herd enemies towards you and they can all take down Shadows (eventually, they all have unique lines for M28)Really the worst sin any of them have is that they waste EC/SM like nobody's business, you have to be careful to either switch on/off special weapons or be out of the EC/SM range (they won't activate it if you're not around, at least)

Just started playing today and enjoying it a lot, Baxter is my favourite wingman, feels like we're two old men stuck dealing with this shit.I haven't been able to see any of the briefings past that of mission 5 or so with the game just straight up skipping them. Has anybody else on Linux had this issue?
The last two missions are underwhelming Mission 30 is ok, but not final mission material Moon 11 should have thrown a spear satellite to theve from orbit or something more bombastic. It's just whatever as it is.
Belka is more interesting when they're treated as a weird fusion of Prussia and Yugoslavia in 0 as opposed to all the other game sthat just make them an allegory for Nazi Germans.
>mission 30wow, it's ass. So much fun flying in circles waiting for a submarine to launch missiles that I immediately destroy for 15 minutes and then bombing the shit out of it afterworst final mission in an ace combat game

You now realize they made the world too small and have run out of countries to fight each other in another warthere's not even a china equivalent in strangereal lol
>>749683605>>749683676I thought "Cope" was just Japanese people's ideas of what a white guy's surname is

Sheepbros where are we at
>>749683851couldn't they just plop countries down in land where there are none, like south of yuktobania has nothing going on, so does the north of osea. they can essentially make as many countries as they need or want with enough timeskips and explaining, the end of 8 showed some nations wanted independence from a larger federation so its not out there to suggest new countries are getting made every decade

>>749683873That's also a possibility. It's Strangereal after all, not exactly a 1:1 to real life.
>>749683851I mean, we've had how many main game wars on just Usea? AC1-3 are all on pre-Strangereal Usea, and then there's AC4 and 8, so even if you discount the PS1 trilogy that's still two mainline games in Usea. They can always reuse countries is what I'm saying. Plus, who knows, if they're crazy we might eventually truly realize the post-Electrosphere timeline that's supposed to take us to space.
>>749683965they should just redesign the entire map desu. Add some more continents. Like where is africa? Where is asia / china?OSEA = north america w/ Europe on the east part and yet EUSEA is also kind of like Europe and then FCU is like America too but also not really and then Yuktobania = Russia obviously and Sotoa = Mongolia, then weirdly Anea is like Scandanavia, the entire map is just confusing and taped together.

>>749689457Compared to S*t*ans and Belkans, Eruseans are fucking upstanding citizens of the world. Plus, their motivations in both wars are a little more relatable. After the Ulysses meteorfall, Erusea was flooded with refugees from all over Usea. Unable to support any more, they tried to close their borders, but the FCU, being the fantastic neighbor that they are, convinced other Usean countries to impose sanctions on Erusea so it may take on more refugees that they literally cannot do anything for. So they fucking snapped ans retaliated by expanding. Wete they justified? Not really, they killed thousands of innocents, occupied a neutral and weak little country, and took Stonehenge. But the FCU were for sure asking for it for being giant shitheels, as were the rest of Usea, most of it anyway. Now in AC7, that's them admittedly being puppets of the last of the Grey Men, which doesn't absolve them of blame, but it as sure as shit isn't as maniacal as "muh grass" or "muh revenge".

>>749690321Belka's motivation is pretty solid on paper, but it gets a little muddled as you dig into the details. Simply put, Belka was cheated out of national resources by a forged survey Osea cooked up in a secret deal the latter had with Ustio so the latter may secede from Belka unchallenged. Sounds pretty cut and dry like that, Belka pretty much had their land stolen, war was the only option... but the devil's in the details. See, Belka is a republic with two defacto regions, North Belka which is their "Holy Land", and South Belka which is made up of long-occupied territories like Ustio. Belka, seeing Osea's and Yuktobania's growing power, fearing occupation from its neighbors, kicked industrialization and militarization into high gear so much they literally made decades worth of advancements in just a few years. This came at the cost of the Southern Belkans, who had their lands stripped of all resources and their men sent to work in mines and factories for pennies. When the resources started drying up, the Belkan republic allowed its drained former territories to secede to lessen the burden on its own central government in North Belka. Simultaneously, Belka was desperate for more resources, and that's when they enlisted the services of an Osean natural resources survey company (forgot its name). Said company ample hitherto undiscovered mineral resources in Ustio, but the latter, wanting to secede like its neighbors already had, made a deal with Osea to falsify the survey report in ecchange for a cut of its minerals. And that's when it all began.
>>749689715Emmeria can't be canada, theve is toronto and thus canada is part of the FCU.
How're you guys getting Theve being Toronto?
Wait a second Baxter teaching Tasha maths got me wondering, is there such a course as applied Belkan mathematics in Strangereal and in studying this course can you learn the secrets of Belkan withcraft?
>>749691939The map layout is basically 1:1 Toronto, save for a few landmarks here and there.
>>749689715Belka is PrussiaErusea is a weird version of France if it was Austria-Hungary because it has a bunch of random states (i.e. Shilage which is probably Hungarian)Fato could be FranceWielvakia/Ratio are Eastern EuropeUstio is Czech/PolandRecta and Gebet IDKWellow is probably Iceland/New Zealand
>>749692038Really? Is that from the Strangereal map or the actual stage?
>>749691939
>>749691939The random pond near my house is literally on the map.

>>749691076Usea is a such a demographically fucked up place I have no idea what any of those countries are
>>749691883Storywise Theve is NYC, but Project Aces loves making all the major cities a patchwork of LA, Toronto, and NYC.
that building you drop on land battleship 1 is based off marina bay sands isn't it

>>749692105As in the actual in-game city layout is basically taken straight from Google Earth.
>>749691334You mean the princess' name and Jean-Luc?
>>749692376I thought Oured was pretty explicitly NYC
>>749680360It literally mentions the Darkness of Enigma ProjectSo yeah
>>749681212this is how I rated their skill levels without even paying attention to how they actually fly in-game
>>749692682Ho fuck I cannot wait for AC9 I'm gonna cum uuuuuuggggghhhhhhh
>>749682705>Can KopfSo i looked this up out of curiosity because i remembered the first guy that posted this, and he got it wrong.Kopf is fucking German(Belkan) he likely meant either Kafa(head) or more likely, Kopuk(Broken) which would make Jan Cope actually Can Kopuk(Broken Spirit). So yeah, Cope is Turkish, but one anon mixed up german with Turkish and we just went with it instead of checking.
>>749692551FCU was originally a hodgepodge of countries since it was the first continent in the series.USEA stands for US (United states) E(urope) A(sia). Plans changed when the world map expanded and Osea became the designated stand in for America. Now strangereal has two flavors of America, soviet era super power America, and RAPED european flavor America.

>>749693215I'M CUMMINGI FUCKING LOVE ELECTROSPHERE PLEASE PA PLEASE PLEASE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
>>749664437Is this the biggest difficulty spike in any AC game? I swear you can softlock yourself if you trigger the checkpoint after killing one without doing any damage to the other and you're not flying the fast brick (MiG-31) to catch up in time.
>>749693605It's not that hard.
>>749693605I am legit not even sure how people have trouble with it? I S ranked it first time with an F/A-18E?
>>749693294>>749693215How's Electrosphere? Kinda wary of anything older than the PS2 since that's the console i grew up with.
>>749693605It's *literally* about knowing their flight path, it's not more complicated than that.
>>749693669>>749693707I held the afterburner the whole time, took shortcuts through their trajectory arc and spammed all the missiles I was carrying as soon as they could reload, all while blasting it with guns and I still couldn't kill the 2nd one before it btfo the fleet. Maybe the checkpoint was fucking me over because it spawned me at the point where the fleet had 1 HP left and the remaining enemy had full health.
>>749693785>How's Electrosphere?Personally, AC3 (JP) is my favorite Ace Combat game, and by a good stretch too. To me, it has the best plane controls, the best music, the best story, the best combat, the best stages, and it has a cool story branching system, snd each branch's missions are almost entirely unique to that branch, with the exception of a handful of key missions. And each branch has its own unique final mission and ending. It's fucking great.
>>749693785I was keeping it on the backburner until recently and it genuinely became one of my favorite entries in the franchise. The presentation is top notch
>>749693785If you enjoy how weighty planes feel in 8 compared to previous games, you'll like how 3 feels. Planes have even more momentum and weight in 3 compared to 8. Aside from that, the missions are super short and arcadey and the story is very Ghost in the Shell. Definitely worth checking out.
>>749693785It's the most simlike game in the series, both in terms of physics and in terms of missile guidance. The story and soundtrack don't have those extremely exciting moments you are used to in ace combat, but they add up to a very satisfying experience.
missions 24 and 25 are kind of retardedThe first day is literally right next to the second day. Like there's a runway literally a few kilometers away from the bunker thing from the first mission and yet there's jets parked on the runway in the second mission lol wtf are the sotoans doingAlso it's annoying as fuck because the game infinite spawns sam sites on the ground
What's everyone's preferred aircraft parts? I used to prioritize pitch speed increases but someone made a video showing they only do like 3% increase, so I switched to adding stealth on non-stealth planes. It gives you a chance to hit SAMs before they can lock onto you, especially if you have increased machine gun or missile range. The stealth part does fuck-all for planes that already have stealth though.
>>749694193>Also it's annoying as fuck because the game infinite spawns sam sites on the groundit took me way too long to notice this
>>749692682Oh shit I just realized the x-40 has quad wings in a similar shape to the night raven with the forward wings over the back wings. It's slowly getting there.
>>749693978Nothing tops Electrosphere's atmosphere, even nearly 3 decades later.
>>749694272I'm too stupid for aircraft parts. I just take manoeuvrability and regular missile upgrades.
AC8 is full of unintentionally(?) hilarious moments. Like everyone being sad that Tasha has to leave because she's a civilian, only for her to pull a $100million fighter jet out of her ass with zero explanation and she gets to continue being a special civilian combatant without getting anyone's permission. Then Kate's plane crashes and she pulls a $100million fighter jet out of her ass too after getting rescued by guys who were trying to kill her 5 minutes ago but their mercenary contract expired just in time so she just hired them to be her mercs lmao
>the corpo wars happened because some dudes with spanish guitars hated borders 50 years ago
>>749694272I've said this before in the thread, but for sure>Guns damage & range upgrade (at the highest level of dogfights at Elite & Ace, guns are more critical than missiles)>Durability/Defense upgrade>the all-maneuverability upgrade>Onboard jammer to weaken enemy lock>that one part that helps missile tracking thru clouds>That part that helps locking on stealth fightersAnd then the rest are just whatever upgrades my special weapons loadout need.
>>749694513The Savians have an infinite supply of 3D printed Rafales, Kate just borrowed one of theirs.
>>749694450Nothing. AC3 is like sex for my media tastes.
>>749694513Tasha stole Kates F-18C. I suspect Kate was not too happy about that.
>>749685737You can farm me.
>>749694787How about we leave this not-general and go back to my place?
>>749693785A bit different from what you usually play on modern ace combats but still funDespite being a PS1 game, I consider it very ambitious for what it was and what it was trying to do, both story and gameplay. The fact that PA is clearly aiming towards AC3 in the timeline makes me happy
>>749694537They finally got what they wanted. Hope they're not disappointed.
>>749693785Not op but i tried emulating ac3 sometime ago and knew you had to use the japanese version but i could not put a translation mod somehow. What is the last step there?
>>749691076>>749690939The FCU is more like the EU, though Theve is literally Toronto so I guess it's EU/Canada.
Shadow 22 is the type of sandnigga who would wear his ceremonial military getup while flying.
>>749694513the fighter jet she pulls out of her ass is because DD funded it personallyand Tasha actually joins up with the military she's no longer a civilian after leaving the ship the first time
>>749695057You need a specific program to patch the translation into the japanese original, or download a patched version through a torrent.

>>749694513>KateHonestly im more confused that she was recovered by retreating Savians rather than by the FCU despite being shot down right over the island they just captured
>>749695363>>749695356Thanks
>>749695752Don't think too hard about that.

>>749695363Based anon
>>749695363Nice.>>749695752A lot of the plot falls apart very quickly the moment you glance at it. If you were to make 101 problems with what is going on I don't even think this would make the list with how far down it would be.
I was not aware Ace Combat 0 is a game where this can occur.
>>749696135Most AC games will make you take damage when hitting a bomber or any other big slow thing, if not outright killing you
>>749696219Those were friendlies thoughPretty sure in some games you can clip into them without taking damage
>>749696392No? Only the new AC games are like that?
>>749696135Wow, that thing just tanked that.
>finally about to s rank mission 28 on ace>have over 122k points going into the final battle>kill the first 3 shadows in like 3 minutes luckily>have 90% damage for some reason>get a few hits on 22>he kills me somehow and I have to redo the entire thing>still kill him again in about 7 minutes>checkpoint restart fucks my ranking and I get an A instead of SAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH I'm so tired of doing this shit. It's not that hard, but getting enough points off the bombers and then regular aircraft is just a bitch, it needs way too many points for S rank it's the only mission I had any trouble with this shit
>>749695285I'll have to replay it but I don't think it is stated she does? A somewhat famous Yuke citizen officially signing on with the FCU just doesn't seem like something that would be allowed to fly?
