>1. Signed Kernel & Kernel Modules
>A custom kernel can easily be modified to bypass integrity checks and return false data to anti-cheat. That’s why we require that the kernel binary in use during anti-cheat protected gameplay is signed with a well-known key.

>>749676648
You're dumb as fuck. These are features that already exist in Linux. this isn't some closed-source kernel module. Instead of injecting their own closed source code into your kernel space, they are requiring the operating system itself to enforce strict integrity. This is a good approach.
>>
>>749679031
The OS integrity is none of their business.

>From now on every EAC game needs TPM secure boot botnet mode enabled
Gee THANKS TIM
>>
not terrible, even with all the security bullshit you have to enable it easily beats running the game on windows regardless.
If you exclusively keep your gaming stuff separate on its own pc (which more people should be doing btw) and more games support EAC on linux going forwards, dualbooting might be dead.
>>
>>749681930
Server culling doesn't stop aimbots or memory tampering, retard
The moment an enemy steps around a corner or becomes visible, the server must send that enemy's 3D coordinates to your computer so your GPU can draw them on your screen
>>
>>749676648
Uhh epic knows all that shit doesn't work, right? People were hacking BF6 day one and it uses all that plus kernel level on windows.
>>
>>749684482
It's not about whether or not it works. It's about the optics they can sell to devs and publishers.
>>
>>749684448
>memory tampering
the server owns the game state, anyone not doing this is a retard and deserves cheaters.
>aimbot
so no worse than CV aimbots which get around kernel shit anyways.
>>
>>749684846
Holy retard. You fundamentally don't understand how multiplayer games work.
Server authority stops game state manipulation (god mode, speed hacks, spawning items). It does almost nothing to stop input automation (aimbots, recoil scripts) or local information extraction (wallhacks, radar hacks).
If the server had to process every line of sight check, raycast occlusion, physics calculation, and input curve for dozens of players at high tick rates without trusting client rendering calculations at all, the latency would be unplayable.
>>
>>749685652
NTA, but anti-cheat doesn't stop any of those either.
>>
>>749676695
>>749677295
The most successful media product is Pokemon, and you could emulate every game on Linux already.
>>
>>749685769
It can, but it's always a race between cheats and anti-cheat
What does effectively is lowering barrier of entry, image if public cheats weren't banned immediately
>>
>>749674525
WINNINGS!!!!
>>
>>749685652
>It does almost nothing to stop input automation (aimbots, recoil scripts)
Which can all be externalized and immune to kernel anti-cheat.
>local information extraction (wallhacks, radar hacks
Which is exactly what server side culling fights.
>If the server had to process every line of sight check, raycast occlusion, physics calculation, and input curve for dozens of players at high tick rates without trusting client rendering calculations at all, the latency would be unplayable.
That's Epic's problem and doesn't justify their nigger malware
>>

>>749679602
Thank god being able to trust the OS over the end user is only useful for anti cheat and there is no widespread desire for something like this to avoid being swamped in bots, and even if there was there is no single point to push enforcement through.
>>
>>749674741
Maybe fortnight is not that relevant, but them making the effort to actually make usable EAC builds for linux is a good thing, tho.
That's literally 99% of the issues devs have with linux since for starters they don't port the games to linux, and when you run them through wine, they're running in the userland, so you can run cheats pretty easily, although I can guarantee that devs who said most linux users are cheaters are lying through their teeth.
