I love this game, but after 300 puzzles, I'm starting to get burnt out.
Did you finally save up for a car, Rajeesh?
>>749675937I don't need a car. All of my commute is just going to work and back. Public transport is enough.
for me, it's the Priestess.
>>749675771You nigger just casually dropped a spoiler/revelation about a game in OP sceenshot. Let the thread sink
>>749675771Wasn't there a game like this but realistic graphics and none of that video gamey grid system visible?
>>749677832There was a ton of 3D puzzles in the promotional material.
I'm at a point where it seems the game has stopped offering me beam and stones puzzles even though I've only had a handful of each and is basically just offering me heroes x mirrors right now. Did Blow gate the stones and beams progression behind heroes and mirrors or have I missed some overworld puzzles or something?
This one was really good
240 levels in, I'm pretty much addicted. Only time that's ever happened with a puzzle game.
>finally got into Alter BeamHoly shit what a detour.

Idk why i just loved these HUGE empty maps with little islands in the stones area. Sadly I've completed them all
hints for this one?
>>749681603nvm solved it immediately, classic
>>7496816031 the beams can go through the walls on this level2 you need quick fingers on this one
I have a post endgame question: Can you have access to the entire first map without ascending? I've started doing the upper world, but I have like 10 more foggy screens in the first one, maybe I just didnt figure out the way to get there. Just tell me yes or no.
>>749681929Some screens are foggy because you unlock them later (pure Beams and Mirrors), but I'm not sure about the others.
>>749675771pace yourself. it's fun to dive into the game, but don't play it nonstop because yeah you'll get burnt out. my issue now is finding a puzzle that I can't quite figure out and rather than just shrug and move on, I burn myself out trying to solve it.
>>749675771Are the skipping stones not supposed to be done immediately? It feels like they jump straight into more advanced puzzles without tutorial. Also, I hate the teleporting fat dude
>You cant beat the game without doing stonesI want to kill myself
>>749682272You can do a lot without getting into Skipping Stones, but you still need to do them and at least one intersection between them and another world to get an ending.
>>749682272if a section of the game seems too difficult then you should come back to it later. but yeah, skipping stones is pretty hard. i explored it last and was just barely managing it
I like to just leave the game on when I need a break from playing it. They should add a screensaver mode that cycles between puzzles you've completed at random.
skipping stones is no harder than any other areas. why do you keep repeating its very hard? have you actually played the game? th balance is on spot
Guise, I'm starting to feel there's no reason for keep completing puzzles endlessly. In a greater scope, I'm feeling that life has no meaning as well.Did Blow achieve his goal here?
>>749682872his goals were making a new language and write an engine and game with itare /we/ achieving our goal playing this game?
>>749678087The game is autopoietic, Blow gives you what you want and need without you even knowing, ever player is getting a completely different expereince.Blow has crafted something beyond mere Art.
did anyone else get a little less enthusiastic when they saw that he just licensed puzzles from some shitty website instead of making his own? like why would I pay $30 for this when I could just play them for free lol
>>749683217wtf, is this true??
>>749683217>>749683282The original games (Heroes of Sokoban 1-3, Mirror Isles and Skipping Stones) have like 20 levels each.Promesst was remade into the first two Beamcasters area. It's like, the original games with AT LEAST 10 times more content for each one, not to mention when he starts to mixing stuff. To be quite honest, considering the amount of absolute shit that it's being fed to our throats for 60-70 dollars, if this game were at 100 bucks, it'd still be cheap as fuck. For 30 dollars, it's liking Blow is giving you a free blow.
>>749682616Idk man, the Heroes, all their interactions with Beams and Mirrors have been smooth sailing for me, I have uncovered the whole top part of the map, but I'm literally stuck in the halfway point of the fucking ""tutorial level" of stones.
>>749677832>Nigga token woman speaks to gay robed nigga>OMG LE SPOILERS!!!!It's a fucking sokoban clone not a sony movie game who cares.
It's mindblowing to think that the dev says that there are 1000 puzzles and some of them took like 2-3 hours for me (Beamcasters and Skipping Stones huge islands).I remember that The Witness had like 500 puzzles but many of them would be over in less than a minute. I really feel like this could a 300 hour game to get 100% without any padding.
>>749683913Aren't most puzzles pilfered from other games?
>>749682616Im finding stones harder than the rest of the game styles, to be honest. The mix of it with the rest is being hell
>>749683938>pilferedthe word you're looking for is "licensed" :^)
>>749683889verticality man, that is supposed to be a surprise
>>749683938not really. The levels that are considered tutorials are basically the games that OotSS "pilfered". The rest is all Blow original
>>749683938no? its not even 10%
>>749683217The original skipping stones level (tutorial one in this game) sucks ass. Also by sheer combination of mechanics the game does orders of magnitude more than the originals, and even more once you hit the first ending.>>749681929Not sure, I have the same question. I think I explored all the levels before the ending and still had foggy areas, so I'm guessing you get to them later.

damn this was a long puzzle, just one mo-ACK
>>749683723>>749683954Do you guys use slow mo, like at all? Bc with slow mo you have time to think and time to execute. Maybe you struggle bc you don't experiment enough? I'd rather test just one part of my assumption quickly than try to come up with a full solution in my head
>>749678985Yeah. He's a fun one.The overworld area he's in plummets my framerate for no discernible reason though.
>>749683217yeah a tiny bit, but then i remember that ootss has 20x more content than all the games it was inspired from combined. the og games were only used as a starting point for the design of the mechanics, there is an insane amount of original ideas in this one. overall my enthusiasm hasn't dropped
The lack of numbers or names or puzzles is hurting my brain.
>>749684170>>749684264you don't need insane timing for this one if you know the proper way of solving it. hint: you have to lock the skipping crystal twice, in two different places

>>749684170this is just a stage where you have to use slowdown and lock the lilies at the right spot. you're not locking the first lily at the right spot if you can only get one switch pressed
>>749684760Answer me this: You end separating the lilypads or not? Im not able to lock the crystal without splitting them
>>749675771It sure lost me in those grindy cross sections. Kinda weird to first introduce a mystery and a bunch of characters, then do fuck all with them and just forget. Seems like another bone dry dead jblow game world. At least the puzzles are aight.
>>749685229you have to separate them yes, but only for a bit
For anons that are playing a deeper puzzle game for the first time: beware that there are some far superior games in the genre, that also gets way harder (which is my main issue with OotSS, it never gets hard enough). Some of them are:>Dungeons and Puzzles>Gentoo Rescue>Ligo>Maxwell's Puzzling Demon>Isles of Sea and Sky>Drod series (3 and 5 are extremely hard, and some community made puzzles are for Einstein-like people)>Prime Mover>Magicube>Stephen's Sausage Roll>Lingo 1 and 2>Magnet Block
>>749684802take a look at area you're in and the area you're not. also if you didn't notice the laser is on a lilypad
I'm stuck on the middle part, do I need to bring a goblin from the right side to the left to make it happen?
Something Im liking a lot of the game is the world map, I think unlocking a little bit of the map with the puzzles make everything work better, even if the overworld puzzles are filtering me>>749685413hmm, I don't know how to unite them again but I will give a thought, thank you
I keep getting filtered by the mirror levels that give you way too much room to work with to do huge reflection warps.

>>749686039Pic related.
>>749686330Yes, you need to kick a rock onto the left island at the very beginning to get the last treasure. I had that spoiled for me, thankfully. None of the other treasures require anything like that, you can always reach them by taking an alternative exit from a screen.
>>749675771It's okay. It's amusing enough to boot up nvidia geforce and complete a puzzle or two before getting back to things with actual importance. I just wish it ran natively on my phone.

>>749688458yeah i realized that after
I need Tiffussy
>>749685469the thing that I actually LIKE about this game is that I don't feel fucking annoyed and overwhelmed by these puzzles. they're barely puzzles because a lot of them have exactly one solution and you need to precisely choreograph and set up everything in the perfect spot. maybe I'm outing myself as a brainlet here, but that's way too much bullshit to keep in my head and not fun.the secret sauce of OotSS is the fact that you DON'T have to have the perfect solution, you can try a few things, undo a few times if you mess up, and then eventually work your way to a solution, rather than fuck around, reset, fuck around, reset, fuck around, reset, and then miraculously end up at a solution that you're not quite sure how you got to in the first place.
>>749688690That's correct and very intentional. Any midwit can make a difficult puzzle game, the hard part Blow tries here (often succeeding but still sometimes failing) is making an easy or minimal puzzle that remains somewhat challenging and interesting.
>>749688690blow basically says the exact same thing >>749685783

I feel like a giant retard can't figure out what to do here. The setup is so simple I feel like I'm missing some huge obvious solution
>>749689097It's simple but it's also a stumper. Basically what you want to achieve is pushing one of the stones "away" 1 tile away from the center pond so you can then push it around the borders. With 2 rocks and two characters you should be able to figure it out eventually.
>>749689227Can i get here or do i have to do more of the second floor first?
>>749689353Dunno. Personally I failed to reach that before hitting the first ending, and still haven't reached it
>>749687829Does this area get unlocked with the 2nd ending? I've only reached the base game credits.
>>749689857Hm? That's part of the first ending credits. Note that the first ending ends with you walking through a bridge into a "white level spot" that just quits the game.

Skipping Stones is weird, because the solutions I found were all relatively easy, but there were moments when I spent 10 minutes staring at the screen thinking, "There’s no fucking way to solve this". I don’t know if my brain isn't smart enough, or if those mechanics aren't as intuitive as they should be for a good puzzle.

>>749692718it seems like the skipping stones are locked to those 6 edge tiles of the pool. what could you possibly do to free the skipping stone from the edge? that thing you could possibly do will require you to sacrifice one skipping stone
>>749692915you go from the left side, off screen from your picture
>>749692915memory is a bit foggy, it might be purple beam from below that shoots up through the wall into the rock

>>749692767Yeah, and had played all of the component games years ago too. Other than that I've just played a lot of sokoban.

>>749693114give it a try first get in the beam and press left
>>749693065it's true they can only go straight up and down in the pool. they go left and right on land. you need a way to push them left and right *and* away from the edge. you need an extra space within the pool to do this.
>>749693041The only vertical beam is the one connected to the gold room and I can't move it to the right>>749692986where exactly? left to that there is the antipode
>>749692915Purple laser at some point I think
>>749693041>>749693302This anon is correct, but first you need the purple laser from the left, in order to move the rock blocking the vertical laser

>wizard can teleport mirrors but only in the directions they dont reflect
do i need to collect all treasures in one go or can it be done separately by completing the level multiple times?
>>749693447Okay, but the only pink beam I have (in that line) is one that I cant move right, or there is something I havent considered.
>>749693258I couldn't do it anon I had to look it up and I feel like a giant dumbass
>>749693798Well yeah, otherwise his teleportation gets reflected. To which magic school did you go that you don't know these basic properties? What I actually find most amazing is that if you slow down time you can see the mirror swaps actually traveling through the beam as a light packet.
>>749693798izzy's teleportation taking on the properties of mirrors and beams is so fucking mindbending and constantly fucks me up
>>749693883You need to get them all in one try, but can replay the level later and get them all. I actually would recommend not bothering with them until you're really completing the game fully.
>>749693917its ok i also had to beg for help on that screen. that was my first great filter. there are many, many worse filters awaiting you, especially with respect to the skipping stones, i promise.it will definitely help you in the long haul to try to solve some of the skipping stone stuff without looking anything up. if you feel yourself itching to spoil the answer, i instead propose you take a break first and come back later. if your mind works shit out on its own you will be better prepared for later rather than having to look at the 'study guide' often
>>749693909The image you posted before has a pink beam "jailed" in the lower left area of the map if you pay attention
>>749692893Skipping stones has optional objectives, the secondary path will always lead to one and then feature a way to return to the main path. I think the game is designed for you to "accidentally" find one of these treasures at its most difficult screen.
>>749683217beside what other anons said, he wrote a programming language for it and also spent 10 years making itdoes it count for me? noit's included in the $30? yesyou asked
>>749693909okay maybe i'm explaining it badly. The laser in your picture is the one that takes you to your desired destination, but that rock is blocking it. You need a separate laser thats on the leftside somewhere, that goes horizontally and takes you to that little area with the 2 rocks, allowing you to move the first one and freeing the first laser.
Tip: If you can't solve a puzzle quit to the overworld and go solve puzzles somewhere else, progress is saved.I've easily solved several puzzles I was stumped on after returning to them the following day.
>>749693558Baba craps all over this
>>749692893>>749694097Oh, and to answer your question, it is possible to miss a treasure. You'll either need to undo, finish the level and restart, or just say fuck it. To save you some time, the last treasure requires you to push a stone onto the left island in the first screen.
>>749694059this one was open already but I noticed what was my error: i just forgot I can move the rock in the gold room restarting the room, im a retard
this might be the most bizarre mechanic interaction to intuit so far
>>749694307it definitely is but that level is much more linear than others specifically because they know that mechanic is crazy
>>749693917I think this screen is designed to look more complicated than it is. You're primed to expect some interaction with skipping the stones from opposing sides of the pool and I think most players, like, miss the trees for the forest or something.
>>749694202>jeet named game>crapsyeah...
>>749694446i do think the screen is a bit daunting but you definitely can try skipping the stones into each other trivially and it gets you nowhere so it then should be crossed off. there's like two non-basic interactions that can happen in the initial right-side state (both involve sinking one or more stones) and only one of them progresses you
what do here? can't figure out the last two islandsred guy cannot go against the dragon breath, so it's a one way trip
>>749692269>>749692161You get used to that, and the levels are not long, and instead of rewinding you can just die (but you have lives) and there're ways to skip like the entire game. I literally skipped 80% of hardmode just by doing some trick. The game is bad not because of this, but because it has a very shitty story.
>>749694528I think the timing element makes it difficult to cross it off, the question of "did I do it wrong?" is always present.
Anyone who finished the skpping-stone puzzles could you tell me if the way I solved one of them is what the game intended?I didn't really like these puzzles. They don't seem to work right. I did that more in an attempt to "break" the puzzle than to actually solve it, but apparently that's the way to solve it? I don't know...
>>749692462Dude, you're fucking speedrunning this shit. 0.1% player

>>749694768I didn't even know this was a solution. The usual is to have the stones such that you put one stone into the "bottom hole" in the island and then push the rock you're pushing from the right past the hole that is now filled.
>>749694837it is (more of a skip-1-beam), but with izzy it has the teleport beam work like a checkerboard skip-1-wise. the object must be on the same skip-1 checkerboard tile as you.>>749694707sure. i did absolutely try skipping the stones into eachother for like 20 minutes there before eventually deciding it was truly fruitless. so there's really only one other choice, and the screens prior to the pool directly rely on you figuring that shit out, but the longer you spend on the pool the likelier you are to forget what you've just done and you can't really redo it to remember "Oh right, this area is teaching me x" without holding z for a long time. the pool screen is just an unfortunate victim of how the skipping stones early levels are multi-part i think.
>>749695065Speaking of checkerboards, I liked the one puzzle with the mirror and 8 goblins and you had to pair them up into 4s
>>749695065Yep, once you reach the answer to this screen it really hammers home this game's latent "remember what you just did" hint system that can be applied to nearly all of the difficult levels.
>>749694894huh? i didn't expect them to make us go through the same path at least twice, damn

>>749685469I dropped Order of the Sinking Star because it felt like an easy game that tried to make you feel like a genius, whereas a good puzzle game is just openly hard and if you manage to beat it, that's because you actually did do something really impressive/really smart.
>>749694307Only after reading your comment it made complete sense to me.
>>749695590realest thing i've ever read on this site
>>749696246An openly hard puzzle game is "guess what I'm thinking." A well-designed puzzle game is a dialogue with the developer.
>>749696467i think this is a good distinction but i'm wondering if you can explain the difference abstractly. i would agree that OSS is mostly good at being a 'dialogue with the developer' (sometimes i feel like the skipping stones levels are more 'guess what i'm thinking') but i want the general principles that you think distinguish these two different forms of communication.
>>749695590Actually, it's a lot worse. Every fap is practically the same, but once you know how to solve a puzzle, that's it.
I feel so out of touch with the consensus here, I think it's way harder than SSR SSR just clicked for me and felt so fun and fresh, like this constant back and forth with the designer and obstacles that felt constantly original and clever where I could always see what the problem to overcome was I'm playing ootss and it has these random difficulty spikes that stump me forever and don't feel satisfying or fun whatsoeverSSR is easy because it's just you pushing shit but in OTSS any gimmick dealing with teleportation is so miserable to me because I can't visualize outcomes cleanly so have to fiddle with random shitI hate blue wizard I hate mirrors I hate skipping stones I hate draknekslop
>>749696246>>749696598>>749696467>start level>"what is the level asking me to do?">aha
>>749696815Now ay....I started playing Sausage Roll again recently, and I couldn't get past the first puzzle. I'm serious.I had to give up and come back later to finally figure out how to solve the first fucking puzzle, lol.Order is infinitely easier.Note: In my defense, when I played SSR for the first time, I didn't have any trouble getting to the big tower puzzle. I guess I've gotten dumber over the years.
>>749696467>>749696827If a puzzle designer strips out every possible way for you to interpret the puzzle except for the way that naturally leads towards his intended solution, are you still really solving it? I felt a lot more satisfaction from Baba and SSR puzzles because it lacked this feel to it
>>749696815I quit Stephen's Sausage Roll quickly because it's a kick in the balls - the game. It's not fun to move around, it's frustrating to roll the sausages, it doesn't feel good to get stuck in the first area, and it's not even pleasant to look at. In Order of the Sinking Star, all of that is inverted. Moving the characters and using the mechanics feels good, you always have a massive choice of puzzles to solve, and the game is gorgeous.
>>749697038How do you feel about cryptic puzzles?https://www.youtube.com/shorts/y08CRGn1rK0
>>749696598Hmm, I kinda just want to leave it at that since it sounds cool and captures my feelings, but I can try to fumble my way through an explanation. I think there are three important components. The first is establishing the language of the game, elements the player will interact with that have been left by the designer. The second is communicating a clear goal or obstacle; what is the preventing the player from trivially completing a task? The third is leaving a reasonable gap between these two in which rests a novel idea for the player to discover that expands the shared language. The entire point of the puzzle is to communicate this idea from the designer to the player. Where many developers fail is this last part; they will indulge in adding complexity for complexity's sake, muddying the waters and making the message unclear. The Message from Deep Space is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played and I think it fully explores this concept, I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
>>749696246Midwit take. You can make a puzzle game as hard as you want by simply adding more steps to a puzzle. Go pick a random chess board configuration with an algorithm and then have the puzzle be deducing the steps it took to get there, congrats there's your amazing difficult puzzle game you can play forever.>>749697038I got tired of Baba after a few hours. It's a great mechanic but it started to feel like a chore very soon.
I can get all of the gems to their compartments but not to the buttons. Impossible!
>>749695657>>749695734he streams development on twitch he works on several games at the same time
>>749684028pretty sure I've seen screenshots of it before even the demo was released
>>749697470I know I know, and I know it'll be a good gameI just can't wait
>>749696815I wouldn't know, I took a look at SSR and it looked like a total chore. The trailer is probably one of the worst trailer's I've seen. If Blow's game didn't have a lot of variety and was by any other developer I would also assume it's a total chore tho.
