I welcome the robots. They dont complain, go out of the way to be hateful, or try to bait you into a argument. They can be trusted more than most humans. I welcome a AI with manners, respect, and i personally dont care much if they are taking jobs. They are taking them because they do the job better, show up on time, and never complain. Can't wait to get a burger somewhere made right the first time by AI. I think in a decade or so from now, when you all have ManDroid 5000's of your own, cooking you toast in the morning, you wont feel the same as you do now about the AI that powers it.

It's my personal opinion, and it will not change. Sorry if i offend someone, its not meant to be hurtful. I just want that burger, and its a fact that humans do not make my burger right any time, so AI has a strong chance at winning that one. Im not coming back here to talk AI anymore, this is boring me. You can use it for something throwaway but for anything user-facing (and internally other devs are users) it's beyond stupid to commit it.

Do people actually buy on steam through the launcher.

It didn't have a multiple games shopping cart, all you had was a "buy now" button, so you could only buy games one by one, which also triggered security systems early on that blocked you because it was "suspicious transactions" to buy too many times in quick succession, when you had no other choice if you wanted to buy 5 cheap games.

Kind of a weird nothing metric. I restart my computer maybe once a month and other than that Steam/EGS are running in the background for the entirety of it. The few seconds of difference on OS startup won't make a difference Hell I'll probably not even be physically at my computer when this is happening.
>>
>>749687078
>Why would anybody buy on EGS?
Apart from brain damage, not wanting to wait a year or two for a game to come on Steam, since EGS' entire deal was to fucking rob you from playing games unless you installed their dogshit spyware. Pepperidge farm remembers the Hitman trilogy, where H1 and H2 came out on Steam, but H3 was an Epic exclusive, and since you couldn't import saves from Steam, Timmy unironically told us to buy the games we already owned AGAIN on Epic. Love Hitman, fuck IOI, fuck Timmy.

You're paying an AI company so that their AI writes your code for you, by giving it a prompt what to do. The code it produces usually ends up being quite a mess, and epic games "devs" probably didn't even read the code, and if they did, they wouldn't understand it even.

Timmy genuinely thought all he had to do was throw the fattest stack of cash on the table and everyone would come suck him off under it. With his fortnite money he tried to bribe everyone both with exclusives and free games, and at no point did he ever realize that people care about service, something Gabe has said and everyone else has repeated screaming off the rooftops for 15 years. You want a free game, you pirate, you want a billion useful features (workshop, achievements, cloud saving, friend lists, reviews, time played, owning games without needing to have them installed at all times on a drive...), you use Steam.

And everyone knows he's a fucking snake so of course no one trusts him or likes him, he ran away from PC in the 2000s and tried to blow another hole in the boat while leaving, proudly claiming how he wanted everyone to be a goyslave on fully controlled consoles where the player has 0 freedom, and now he came back to PC humiliated after none of that succeeded.

thanks anon, it *does* boot pretty fast (though I don't believe their numbers in the slightest) but then the store page in the app seems to never load lmao, and it's *full* of glitches

Is this a fucking joke? Timmy is Gabe's greatest useful idiot, all mustache twirling schemes every other day make valve look incredible. The only competition is GOG.

GOG isn't real competition. It'll never displace Steam. It can only work beside it. EGS would like to displace Steam.
>>
>>749689804
Timmy was a legitimate game dev back in the 90s. But he's long since drank the kool-ai and thinks completely different nowadays
>>
>>749692342
>GOG isn't real competition.
This. GOG is a museum that lets people buy old games with 100% no strings attached. It's a flashback to buying games a quarter of a century ago. I love buying stuff there, and some GOG versions are just superior to the Steam version, like with the original RE trilogy. (The Steam version has Enigma DRM cancer shit on it.)

It was a day like any other. But for Tim GAYney the GAY, he happened to be a few feet away from Gaben when he was horny. No one wants to be around Gaben when he's horny. "So you call yourself the CEO of Epic GAYmes eh mortal? Allow me to have you earn that title" he says to GAYney. With a booming "HAKAI" GAYney's clothes and exclusives are instantly erased from every timeline. He starts having extremely GAY sex with GAYney at speeds Sweeney only thought Spencer could achieve. Before he knows it, Sweeney's name becomes GAYney so fast that it happened before it happened. "S-S-So this is the power of the PC DEITY Gaben-SAMA..." GAYney says and then faints. The end.

EGS will never even get close to be a contender, nor anyone not clinically insane would want it to. We're talking about an actual monopoly holder with the Unreal Engine that can't offer any fucking benefit to anyone, not even fucking publishers. Cartoon levels of incompetency and malice.

Everything I've seen in those leaked Steam/Epic mails when the MS lawsuit to buy ACTI was going on paints Tim as just a jealous loser who wishes he was Gabe and that Epic was Valve. But it's gotten so much more pitiable since then.

>Programming is hard
No, it isn't. Plenty of competent people that companies like Epic can afford to and do hire.

They didn't "vibe coded" anything, some things were done with the help of "AI" tools but all the intricate stuff is done by smart people, the new launcher was no exception.
>>
>>749691507

Pretty sure it'd been vibe coded for years, but now that it seemed to become more socially acceptable they're pretending it's some hot new stuff.
>>
>>749693464
a bug is one thing, but why would you brag about this garbage before it's even anywhere near ready? One of the 3 (three) screens on your app straight up doesn't work, how the fuck are you going to be unironically posting some microbenchmarks bragging about it with that?

I'm going to have to give it a try on Linux later on and see how well it works. I don't really even use the EGL for games that much (the previous lack of Linux support is a large factor that made me prefer Steam instead), I use Unreal Engine for 3D animation production and I mostly use the launcher to manage my UE projects and keep my UE installs and plugins updated. Hopefully this will make using Unreal Engine on Linux a lot more convenient.

If they added a compatibility layer to let games run on Linux without needing to setup any manual hacks or workarounds, that would also be really awesome to try out.

In 2 years Epic will have successfully vibecoded all the major features of Steam.

You hire competent programmers and give them enough time to do their jobs the correct way instead of putting them in a time crunch
Most technical debt comes from bad project managers forcing things along half baked and unfinished.
