The only boss that gave me significant trouble as a kid was clayton and that invisible chameleon. He hits really hard and takes a while to kill since you don't do that much damage yet.
The final boss of 1 is unironically hard and took me over two hours to beat.

If you try to play KH1 like that you'll get bullied. It's an RPG to a much greater extent and it's not designed so you just react to everything the boss does. Like for example bosses have a "revenge value" where eventually they just get to hit you for free and you have to do some janky shit if you want to get around it.

I was stuck on Roxas in KH2FM when I was playing Critical mode. I had to leave and go farm some levels so I could unlock the dodge roll and flying ability which made fighting Roxas significantly easier and more manageable. That's a real RPG experience right there.

I haven't played it for 20 years but I think it's fair to say that, especially if you include the extra content. Elden Ring and the souls games aren't difficult, the INsAnE dIfFiCuLTy is an illusion created by the games' clunky controls and cheap kills. Generally every fight is, get close dodge right attack over and over.KH is a cleaner game with less gameplay variables which means battles are better balanced and scale. Yeah I beat the game as a kid but I remember having to redo fights a lot, remember enemy attack patterns, manage resources and to not make a single mistake to get past some bosses. You can't cheese or exploit bosses in KH the way you do in ER, you lose it is your fault and you need to practice.
