No game's failure has given me more sadness. I can dismiss SH2, MGS3, etc slopmakes. But FF7 was much more near and dear to me, and a remak series with real tiem combat could have been amazing.

Rebirth specifically seems to have utterly killed anyone's interest in the FF7 remake series and the FF7 universe in general. Good going Square.

I even want to go so far as to say ti's designed as an anti-fun game. An Anti-game. It's like a checklist of all the wrost parts of AAA games rolled into one. Good grief.

Worst character and worst gameplay mechanic in your path.

Why is Elena even a Turk, anyway? She has zero professionalism, she's constantly complaining, and the second it seems like she might actually die, she's on the verge of pissing herself.

>Why is Elena even a Turk, anyway? She has zero professionalism, she's constantly complaining, and the second it seems like she might actually die, she's on the verge of pissing herself.

You're confusing Elena (Remake series) for Elena (FF7 character). In remake series, everyone's personality is cranked up to 100, and everything is played purely for laughs. In the original, she is the source of a few gags, but it's nowhere to the extreme level of Rebirth. Also, she's superhumanly strong just inexperienced compared to the rest.

Yuffie and Elena becoem teh go to comedy slapstick characters and I hate it.

Oh thanks, that's a nice way to put it. It's just wall to wall humor, slapstick, dance numbers, Celine Dion style song, or other nonsense. It's utterly baffling. It has this Disney tone to everything. Oh and the entire world is a theme park and tourist trap, so there's always these tourists wandering about wearing Gap clothing.

Good. All FF7 needed was HD and maybe alternative models (even though the legos are iconic).
It never needed to be ubisoft/sony open world bad pacing slop.

I agree with you, 100%.
Sadly, I also cared dearly for the SH, MGS, and many other older classic franchises, that have been butchered beyond recognition by the modern-day DE-makes the past few years.

The fact that there's also shittons of new players, who honestly thought they'd get to play THE greatest JRPG of all time, with just a new coat of paint ... only for them to land on some of the cringiest, fugliest, and outright unfinished fan-fic sludge imaginable, must feel painful.

The PC port of the 1997 game, with the ReMako + NiNo-Style mods is all you need for a true HD remaster.

Those were outsourced remakes by third parties with modest to low budgets so you KNEW what you were getting. FF7 Remake series is high budget, and handled in-house by FF7 staff, many key figures also worked on the original. The pieces are there.

Story and cutscenes are laughable embarrasing, and the gameplay is sludge that is actively anti-fun. Just such a complete disaster. Even the people who liked FF7 Remake were turned off by Rebirth.

As I said, everything is dialed up to 100. So Dio was nominally an ally in FF7, but here he is outright directly assisting your escape in a totally illogical manner. Gold Saucer is a Shinra financed project, and he's nominally under their command even if the place has a lot of autonomy.

I like how this retarded anime bullshit immediately follows Dyne's emotional death scene, and his fresh corpse is still in frame for most of it. It's a nice microcosm of the remake's tonal inconsistency.
>>
>>749699706
>That's how most people felt OP.

It's because it brings me great sadness. It could have been great. It could have been a revival of Final Fantasy. You just know that FF7 is going to be buried dead and good after this.

Am I even going to slog it through Part 3? These games are anti-fun.
>>
>>749704958
It's not accidental. The game is utterly terrified of sad scenes or actual stakes. It can't write out Dyne's death outright, so it does everything to undermine the pathos and sadness of the sequence with its anime disney spectacle nonsense.

The game absolutely HATES being FF7, and instead wants to be a fun happy go lucky fun tourist world full of theme parks. This is all deliberately planned and executed. The FF7 cast and setting are popular, but they wanted to strip out the actual atmosphere, tone, and tragedy from the story.

yeah there will never be another gaming disappointment even 1% as tragic as this fucking demake trilogy. the original is my favorite game ever, I waited DECADES for this, it was my holy grail and white whale, and then we got... this. Damn near a worst case scenario remake. the only praise I can give it is the visual direction. and even then they fucked up the most important part of that too (tifa). It doesnt hurt just because the games are a fucking disgrace, what really hurts is the actually good remake I'll never get to play.
>>
what are the chances part 3 is actually good and redeems the series? what would they have to do in order for (You) to feel that way?
>>
>>749705313
I'm wondering if Sakaguchi is needed to keep the creatives under control? Nomura is obviously a homosexual, and his homosexuality seeps into the story. Motomu Toriyama is the director of X2 and presumably the source of all the dance numbers and songs. It feels like at times someone gave 200 million dollars to a bunch of theater kids and told them to go wild. Meanwhile, the staff seems to just not like FF7, and instead want to make Kingdom Hearts, FFX, FFX2, or anything else INSTEAD.

X2 was the exact moment I initially ducked out of the Final Fantasy series for like 20 years. FF7 rebirth series reeled me back in only for it to go full X2. Fuck I hate dance numbers and girly bullshit.

>>749705450
Same director as Part 2: Naoki Hamaguchi who is at least half of Rebirth's problems. Nomura is at least a competent director, and Hamaguchi is an idiot. The open world and slop is the other half of the problems, and Part 3 is more slop, more filler, more open world.
>>
>>749705450
>what would they have to do in order for (You) to feel that way?

1. Remove the 3D open world levels.
2. Instead you go to the bridge of the highwind and just tap a map and you are dropped off at key locations.
3. Dress spheres are removed.
4. Stagger system removed.
5. Dungeons are not teal-blue-green lit.
6. All cast members have a 3 hit combo default, slow deliberate movements, rather than spamming attacks.
7. Chadley was strangled off screen and his body flayed
8. Materia is found in the world space

Literally anti-rebirth so they won't do it. Hamaguchi is a moron and thinks he made a great game with Rebirth.
>>
>>749705450

my cope is that disc 3 of ffvii is actually open world/optional stuff already and on paper there's a lot of kino stuff for them to put in the game so maybe it will feel more like playing the real ffvii than rebirth did

its pure cope and Im 99% sure they will find a way to make it all boring and cringe

We're getting more Cait Sith and Yuffie too, two minor side characters who are front and center for the Remake series. I swear to god, they got more lines than Barret did in Rebirth. Cait Sith is your fucking Tour Guide on your holiday through theme parks, explaining every location and never not talking. Yuffie is your team's cheerleader singing her own theme song.

If you could DO something with this, I could roll with it. Having a full romance and dating system where you could just Date Yuffie is something I could get on board wtih, as it'd change the story and you could have different endings.

The break-up and timing is terrrible too. So far we have only gone through FF7 Disc 1. 1 disc out of 3. I know Disc 3 is mostly just the end-dungeon and cutscenes, but Disc 2 is pretty big.

Sepiroth's summoning of meteor is a much more logical place to put the end of FF7. Game 2 would start with Tifa-chan waking up in Junon and the world is changed. I think FF7 could work as a duology. They could even throw in Part 3 as a new story.

Remake doesn't have Chadley. Remake is "mostly" just the Midgar portion of Final Fantasy VII with a bunch of bloat added to turn the 8 hour experience of Midgar into a 40 hour experience.

Rebirth is an even more bloated open world meme Ubisoft tower game where Chadley serves the purpose of a sort of checklist quest hub. Every time you want to scan some rocks, Chadley's your guy, and if you don't want to scan some rocks then you don't enjoy Final Fantasy VII.

It gives me spiritual sadness, since all the elements are there, you get brief glimses of brillance too. Whenever the game uses the old score, or adapts a scene 1:1, the game just pops and it hits. But it's buried under a mountain of filler and badly written and directed scenes.

I'm dropping that game because I'm not having fun
>>
>>749711118
>I'm dropping that game because I'm not having fun

This is actually a very common opinion, to the point I'd almost call it the default position of a lot of people. It's pretty scary how completely unfun it is, and how they made an "anti-game". You really want to keep pushing because it's Tifa, Barret, Cloud, Aerith, but man it sucks.

Even if you go "oh neat, Tifa is over there. I should go talk to her". And you do and it's fucking nothing. She has nothing interesting to say because it's filler, you're in filler zone, and doing filler things. It's filler piled upon filler.

And it all cost like 200 million dollars.
>>
The most amazing part is how they managed to lose people that were ok with Remake's ending and general crap, which made me check out way sooner. At that point I thought these people would eat up anything served but apparently Rebirth alienated a big fraction of those too.
>>
>>749698327
Both 7R games have been consistently sitting in the top 5 and 10 on all storefronts across all platforms this year. I'm sorry that hurts your feelings, but you should try to stay a bit grounded.
>>
>>749711271
It's because the core gameplay loop is an utter chore and unfun. I think they should scientifically study how unfun FF7 Rebirth is because it's almost scientifically designed to be an unfun experience. The metaphor I'd use is wading through a waist high swamp. You technically are making slow progress but it's slow and it takes forever.
>>
>>749711327
>Square has refused to release sales numbers after 2 years

>>749711118
You're not alone. Every Rebirth thread has people saying they dropped the game, and if that's /v/ (who has more patience than most), it means a decent percentage just dropped the game out of frustration. That would be utterly unthinkable in 1997. That if you told them that there's gonna be a big budget remake of the game, and people get bored and give up on it.
>>
>>749711271
lol I think SE thought the same thing. "These people will eat up any slop". But nope ,even they have limits.
>>
They should release a version or patch that rewards you with materia at the end of each chapter as if you've 100% all sidequest filler and call it easy mode or whatever idc. It won't fix much but it might allow you to chain the story beats better.
>>
>>749711271
>The most amazing part is how they managed to lose people that were ok with Remake's ending and general crap, which made me check out way sooner. At that point I thought these people would eat up anything served but apparently Rebirth alienated a big fraction of those too.

The exact moment I checked out was the fate ghosts ("whispers"). It was jaw on floor level of "what the fuck?". Not in a cool way, more in a "Ocelot starts talking like Liquid because he got his body posessed by a ghost arm" moment in MGS2, where I knew the plot was gonna go off the rails.

I was looking forward to Reno's introduction scene, since it's a great little segment but instead the whispers dominate the segment and ruin it. Every scene that they're in, they dominate and I honestly kept trying to pretend they weren't in the plot. Whispers are so meta, so stupid, and probably the worst thing SE has done in tehir entire career.

In every thread there's an equal amount of people who say they liked the game as outright dropped it. Those are dreadful numbers. Genuine Rebirth fans seem to be a total minority, and the sales figures show it. Games sell a lot based on word of mouth and the word of mouth is "skip it".
>>
I dunno about you guys but I'm kind of excited about part 3. I never bought the games but I liked the original enough back in the day. Watching the shitfest of a story unfold is like watching a really bad series that for some reason you can't take your eyes off of and I want to see how it ends while eating popcorn.
>>
>>749711965
Not only that but a whole lot of people bought FF7 on hype and high expectations and were let down. Those people didn't return for part 2. People who complain on imageboards are a minority, most people just move on quietly. Squeenix understandably sleep walked into this mess, not knowing how poorly received 7R was, but now they know so if R3 doesn't fix anything, they only have themselves to blame.

Yeah, i noticed. They utterly kill the pacing, and nothing interesting is ever said. The entire team also moves at a glacial pace and never act like there's any sense of urgency. Original had them always on the tail of Sephiroth as he moves through the lands, desperate to get close and find answers.
>>

Oh boy. FF7 Remake feels like a master piece compared to Rebirth. You can already just watch the dance and musical numbers (there are several of them). Oh and Yuffie and Cait Sith are central characters rather than side characters who steal most of the limelight.

But the main issues are bloat, padding, dreadful mini-games, and laborious open world sections which make up the majority of the game.
>>
when the final part is out will they do a compilation edition so I can purchase the entire game once?
I'm not in a rush, and I'm sure it'll be $5 in no time
