I played in the beta and there didn't seem to be an issue with lag. You shouldn't die unless the other player is just better. However, you could always survive as Jon Snow i.e. with people helping you.

You can probably tank early game but it's going to get harder as you level up

shaman tank can generate threat okay but you have no defensive cooldowns or real mitigation other than the typical passive parry/block/dodge. you'll be able to get by at lower levels probably but as you start to reach higher level content you will likely start to struggle. if your groups are willing to play around your limitations, by all means, go for it, but don't expect to be considered a "real" tank unless certain mechanics or gear options change
