Huh...wonder where all the "it's a real castlevania!" threads went?
Disappeared as soon as it came out..
Really makes you think.
>>
I'm enjoying it
>>
It's a Dead Cells reskin
>>
>>749723323
Good.
>>
>>749723296
Are you, dare I say it, having a blast?
>>
>>749723256
Its as much as a Castlevania as Simon's Quest, SOTN and Judgement.
>>
I'm having a blast, they really caught lightning in a bottle.
>>
>>749723417
Yeah. Wish I had bought it on pc instead of switch though, didn't realize there was no switch 2 version.
>>
>>749723497
You forgot return to form
>>
I'm REALLY enjoying it so far, but I'm stuck on the anal penetration stage. I am trying to stimulate Alucard's prostate to go for the strokeless orgasm achievement, but the combo is really difficult to pull off, and I end up getting laughed at by a group of African vampire women. help!
>>
so were the story leaks true
>>
I fucking hate indie games and their shitty aesthetics and design choices.
>>
>>749723798
how is this indie in any shape or form
>>
Awful music so far
>>
>>749723880
Just fucking look at it.
>>
I think people just went to sleep, and besides, the game is seemingly still not pirated yet because no one fucking cares enough to pirate it.
>>
>>749723692
Well obviously. Joan of Arc is the superior girlboss and you get the good ending by curbstomping Leon Belmont's legacy who has been cucked into a monster and is now the enemy.

Konami HATES IGA with a burning passion. Not hard to see why. That man IS castlevania, so much so that he made like 4 of them in the last few years without even trying, and Konami is stuck copying dead cells' homework.
>>
>>749723256
Almost like people went to sleep or are playing it or something
I would play it but I'm drunk as fuck right now
Will order pizza and play it all day tomorrow

Nobody unironically believes anything any more.

indie isn't an artstyle it's a development model wherein the game is created independently from major studio or publisher involvement

bellend's curse was funded and co-developed by konami so by definition it doesn't quality as indie

I opened the stream of a fat gay redditor playing this, and he was raging that "SOTN fans" didnt love the demo and dont think it's an incredible evolution of the franchise and a masterpiece (all words he used). This is what I mean when I say gaming is too much for some people. This fag should be doodling with crayons or something, he doesnt actually play video games. He looks up the most ez mode, meta-faggot way to beat a game then posts about it on social media and desperately needs to find other people to agree with him about how much fun he had and how it was the most amazing experience he ever had.

It's sad that he's not doing something he enjoys but is intensely devoted to convincing himself that he is.

So everything you're complaining about is second hand knowledge. Got it.

My gripe is that it feels slower and the mobility isn't nearly as fun as Bloodstained or the other igavanias after CotM. The music so far has been super underwhelming, but the combat is pretty well-executed. I don't think this game is goty by any stretch, but these hyperbolic statements from people who didn't even play the game are 10x worse than any shill post and is always someone else's opinion are outright lies

That they weren't trying to copy IGA. Castlevania existed before SotN. It's blatantly obvious that they didn't want to copy Igarashi's homework when bloodstained is still an active IP

Why is /v/ so retarded?

>So everything you're complaining about is second hand knowledge

I actually think it's far better not to play the game because I already know it's just another Konami cashgrab using the old IPs that they don't have the ability to make any longer, featuring boring and derivative subversions of the things people like slapped together by a dev team that doesn't give a fuck about castlevania and gets paid either way.

Better to not put your hand in a big pile of shit in the first place than root around inside it for the diamonds that aren't going to be there.

They've done this for YEARS. if you don't get it by now, you're retarded.

I haven't played an indie metroidvania that plays like BC. That's not a compliment either moreso than it is an objective observation. It feels floaty and sluggish in the first few hours. I genuinely think Evil Empire wanted to make a Castlevania game, but wanted to mix classic elements, iga elements, and elements from their own games which OTHER games copied (can you blame the makers of Dead Cells making the game feel like Dead Cells? That game came out in 2018 and plenty of games aped that game because it was very popular)

Don't get me wrong, the game plays great and all, but it just doesn't have the charm and feel of a Castlevania product. The music doesn't help, either, since they really just need to suck up their pride and hire Yamane again as a freelancer, since some of the music I've heard so far is straight up 1990s midi-tier and doesn't hit at all like her work would have with its distinct gothic / European inspired chords.

Never was a big classicvania fan, but for igavanias:
Heavily de-emphasized platforming. Bigger focus on the pure exploration aspect instead, including frequent underwater traversal or even flying.
A huge focus on RPG aspects, with lots of unique gear that has its own gimmicks, sometimes hidden and ridiculously overpowered ones.
Very creative traversal upgrade design in general. SOTN still has some of the coolest traversal upgrades in the entire genre.
Low HP enemies that are mostly easy to kill, but with all sorts of memorable and weird designs. Setpiece bosses, sometimes taking entire rooms in size.
Melodic, chill, beautiful music. Next to no pure "atmospheric" tracks.

I think a common ground that both classicvania and igavanias had was that both liked to have monsters be the main threat, with platforming typically not the focus at all. Even when you take into account that classicvanias liked having bottomless pits here and there with a fixed arc on jumps requiring you to be more deliberate about its use, you often fell off a platform because an enemy bumped you off more so than because of any actual challenging platforming design.

I think this series should've stayed dead after Lords of Shadow. Konami bled all of their talent out and they're just a publishing house more than an actual game developer now. There is no one in this industry who actually understands Castlevania on a fundamental level, and since there have been 100s of Metroidvanias in the interum Konami left Castlevania to rot it feels very outclassed by everything else that's come out since.

Hey, it was a cool segment. It's also not a platforming segment, but more of a tiny puzzle. Comparing it to tranny celeste platforming rooms is retarded.
>>
Precision platforming is traditionally something rooted in trial and error gameplay.
The designer thinks of a lot of cheap shots and the player who doesn't know any better smashes his head against it until he memorizes all the stupid shit the designer came up with believing he accomplished anything of note.
(Souls series boss design is also largely like this but that is not relevant right now.)
I am not scrolling up but that one Anon tried to make a comparison with Dracula's Curse? That is a game rooted in Arcade-style design which is quite literally the opposite. If you lose you are better just restarting because you lose momentum.(Both the momentum of your gameplay and for Castlevania your powered up sub-weapon which is a huge loss)
It's about keeping consistent pace for the 40 or so minute that a full game run takes. Precision platforming games like Celeste or Super Meat Boy are about quick checkpoints and just smashing your head against the wall until you get lucky.
>>
Just reached Catacombs. It's good lads.

i dont get it there a lot to criticize but people here just grasping at straws. You can just download and play the game yourself

True, a precision platformer is more something like this
>>
>>749723256
funny people complaining about ''precision platforming'' where classicvania is a textbook exemple of that.
>>
>>749742474
Agreed--I just hate that parry is your strongest defensive option early on and that enemies blend into the background in several areas. Other than that, it's an ok spin-off
>>

same except is mid, it´s like a weird fusion between blasphemous 2 and guacamelee except not as good as either of those. so far the best feeling weapon to use is the spear, the shield and 2 swords are ass.

They didn't play them

He wasn't even really shitting on CV4. It is a pretty unremarkable room that is nothing like the spike room shown in BC

>Defeat Dracula
>I AM ROSE BELMONT AND I WILL HUNT THE NIGHT
>You may have defeated my body but my curse will live on, thus bringing me back(paraphrasing here).
>The cards activate
>Voices in my head say I need to do something
>Have control again while Drac rises to the sky
>He creates a giant fuck off red explosion
Ok so the leaks where true, need to do something to stop him and his curse.

I bought it and refunded it (is it true steam still takes a cut?). Shit plays more like dead cells than any castlevania.
>>
>Belmont game
>Doesn't even have sub weapons
B.R.U.H

maybe if this does poorly enough they'll port of Harmony of Despair to current shits
>I was fully intending to buy this but it appears to be p bad

What? Classicvania is not based on precision platforming challenges. The platforming is actually pretty basic. The real challenge comes from avoiding enemies and their attacks.
>>
>>749742935
No, Steam collects the money for a month, then sends it to the devs less the the Steam cut. Refunds come out of that pre-cut money Steam is holding, not from the devs directly
>>
>>749743029
There's no sub weapons because Rose is a dom :)

We must be better Belmont's...
