Post an old game
Best 70s game, holds up great.

>>749730365Sick
Ancient Cave is sick, more JRPGs should have had it
>>749728978Sure.
Can we go back to what the fuck is going on type of games with a hint of how the fuck do I do anything?
>>749730574Nah sorry best I can do is every game datamined and solved before it's released
>>749730480Lufia 2 is the greatest RPG ever made

This retro gemmy is 10+ years old
>>749730574HoMM series comes with a manual and tutorial that explains everything.
>>749730405The story is bad but the next game is way worse in that regard. The gameplay is too good for a PSP title.
Gain GroundI'm not much for old arcade games but I fucking love this one. I'm gonna go play it now actually brb
>>749730574If you can't play these kind of games then you should go back to gun and ball games. There is no hope.
>>749730909Deus without the Ex
>>749732457I want to play this verison of the game. I miss games that had nonsense racism in there. Now i cant even talk about the Moonman Doom mod anywhere without people losing their shit.
>>749734225is that the remaster version? look bretti gud
>>749732253This looked really fun in gaming magazines, but I never knew a kid who actually owned it.

>>749734325>>749738495>>749739476Holy fuck these are literally the games that got me into gaming. The only thing missing here would be prehistorik and raptor call of the shadows.
>>749730365I love these designs for my entire lifeThe sickest unit designs ever in my opinionI'm probably heavily biased, sure, but holy shit I love Dune 2In my opinion, it's a perfect blend of utilitarian retro-futurism that looks both pretty realistic and futuristic at the same time and they're just good designs overallLook at fucking sardaukars, man. There's nothing cooler than this to meAnd also Devastators, what a fucking name

best i can do is this
>>749730574... old games like this tended to have a fucking 200 pages manuals. The devs literally packed the game with a printed wiki.Your fault for not fucking reading it or losing it.
>>749740394I want to play that still.
>>749740393>slopcompiling a PC gameWhat could possibly be the purpose?

>>749739976Yeah, the infantry looks sweet as well. They don't make them like they used to anymore.
>>749740465its a very good fan game, i will never go back to normal final fantasy again

>>749740812That poor lady must be so cold.
>>749728978Old game grass... home
Dune 1's OST was so fucking good.
>>749740220Fuck yes, that's the one. I bet there is a way to play it on win10, might as well try booting it up again.
>>749741201>I'm having a blast (from the past)!
>>749740293Never ran across that one, but lmao them wolfenstein pallets.
>>749740521>>749739976The guy responsible for this art unfortunately died right around the time when Lands of Lore 2 during the early 3D bullshit craze came out, so his work was pushed aside for FMV's, Voxels & 3D graphics. Very few games with pixel artwork from other companies ever came close to Lands of Lore 1's beauty.
>>749731502SIELV YLIKVORMITVS
>>749730365>>749739976When I was very young, I thought the vehicle designs were the coolest. I held a piece of paper over a monitor and tried to trace the rocket launcher, but it didn't work.
>>749741706Let me guess. He died young, and right after dropping banger after banger, right?I have had similar experiences with composers. I play games they had a hand in, I hunger for more, just to find out they died almost immediately afterwards like some kind of cosmic joke.Ryu Umemoto. How I love thee. RIP.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLOqRHi927g
>>749741945they are still the coolest!
>>749739976Those designs also made a lasting impression on me as a kid. I remember doodling tanks at school when I was bored trying to replicate the style. My friend was always curious to see what I concocted. A shame I never believed in myself back then and stopped drawing shortly after.
>>749742606This looks like Advance Wars.
>>749743021Famicom Wars was released in 1988 so it's likely a ripoff.
>>749741516>I bet there is a way to play it on win10There is even better than that: some autists group setup torrents and emulators for *every single fucking MSDOS game* - and a launcher that install everything for you.Literally just search by name/dev/etc, click "download" and it's ready to play with no need to spend 3 months editing DosBox's config files.
>1995 game>Still recommended for kids with speech issues because fucking no one since then bothered making non-garbage games for 3-5yo.
>>749743710>*every single fucking MSDOS game*Before someone gets too excited, exodos doesn't actually have every dos game. Don't expect to find that shareware game you played for 2 hours on there.
>>749744001>Don't expect to find that shareware game you played for 2 hours on there.Dunno, it had Amulets&Armor which is exactly "that one shareware demo I played for 2 hours then forgot about for 30 years" material, and that shit sold less than a hundred copies back then (finished it last month).Guess I've just been lucky with all the games I wanted from them.... well, except Geneforge, but it turned out that despite the look it was *not* an MSDOS game so that one was on me and my shitty memory.
>>749743710Fuck yes, that is in fact great news. Thanks man.
>>749740521>They don't make them like they used to anymoreI'm fully aware that nostalgia makes everything better than it actually was, but I genuinely think that sci-fi art from the 60s to 90s (which Dune 2 is a part of) mogs anything modern that looks so extremely faggyPic related is the shit and the bottom right one lives rent free in my headNow, if you google "Dune 2 sardaukar", you are met with a generic white sci-fi space suit that looks the same as everything else. Prey (2016)? SpaceX suit? Oblivion (movie, 2013)? It's all fucking the same!
I remember my grand dad playing this Falcon gameYou had to read a fucking book to pilot this shit
Hopefully some day it will be supported by ScummVM and get an English translation.
>>749742470Dune 2 had realistic, but still futuristic designs that looked better than their real life counterparts
>>749745176I keep seeing this artstyle on old stuff but i never hear it referenced by any name, anyone knows?
>>749745762Retro futurism? Not exactly the style but closest I have a name for.
bonus points if you can name the game without backsearching
Forced to admit I almost rarely touch the psi stuff since by the time I get it researched and built I already have an avenger and the final mission unlocked. Hate capturing shit and never even try it using only prods.
How do I get into old games? I wanted to play Daggerfall as i thought that'd be a good place to start but I have never been able to bring myself to start. I think it's because it requires learning so much of the game to play it effectively and it just turns me off. Tips?
>>749745762When I feel the urge to look up images in this style, I just Google "70s sci-fi" (or 80s, or 90s, or even 60s, you get the idea). Look up the most prominent artists from these eras and look through their artThen again, it can't be a coincidence that fantasy art from the same era looks better than modern trash, either. Quite literally, no one draws like this today. If you see something like this these days, it's 100% AI trash that was trained on actual art from the previous century
>>749746898play something easier, I mean it. Consider installing eXoDOS for easy installing of new games and try Lands of Lore and Might and Magic 4
>>749746898There's a unity port of Daggerfall that has a shitton of QoL and graphical mods. There are videos about the best mods on youtube, go look them up. I enjoyed playing Daggerfall like that. While it was frustrating as fuck a lot of the time (the game design is pretty bad by modern standards, and the randomly generated dungeons are very convoluted and retarded, but what's worse, the premade story dungeons are even worse), but holy shit, does this game have SCALE. It actually feels like a giant fantasy world compared to modern RPGs, where you can travel on foot between "cities" in several minutesThere are naked hoes too
The memories, fuck....>>749744952Holy shit that's some really neat animation for the GBC
>>749736394Game name?
Still got the OST around somewhere.
>>749746898Daggerfall isn't exactly something I would recommend.Yeah it's technically a bit impressive, but it's not exactly *good*.Morrowind is the point the series got famous for a good reason (and Morrowind is still a pile of jank, so that tell you how bad Daggerfall was by comparison)
>>749746898Daggerfall is kind of a tricky example. If the extensive mechanics don't filter you, the randomized 3D dungeons, while technologically impressive, actually might. The game suffer from it's own sheer scale, which due to limitations is filled with either absolutely nothing or the same repetitive enemies/objects/etc, which can make the experience somewhat boring (and in the case of the world map, forces you to fast travel every time
>>749747834https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-Q_UO6Hp7U
>>749730574I understand where you're coming from, but HoMM is a horrible example for that. It's extremely easy to pick up and understand even without any manual.

>>749750672The problem with that is that C64 crpgs usually have better versions elsewhere. If you're still curious, though:The Bard's TalePool of RadianceA pretty neat modern Eye of the Beholder homebrewhttps://youtu.be/V2IWyzAVVBQ
this game is an underrated, forgotten gem in my opinionhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgTcYDheix8
>>749750997thank you. i was aware of the bard's tale but not the other two. i just want an excuse to use my c64 maxi. i'm aware a good portion of the c64's library is shovelware and ports of games that have better versions on other systems.

>>749754539Shame this scene got removed in the remake. Along with changing the reason Twinsen got trapped in asylum. Adding an annoying little sister as the reason for rising up to Funfrock was such a bad idea it's crazy. That being said now Zoe is the rebel leader and gets even less screen time.
>>749755510Fair point. Not to mention that, unless it's somehow free-to-play, we will probably pirate it anyway

(it's specifically set in a time the setting didn't deal with much)I really ought to play his new Thousand Hells game, Six Ages was good even if not as good as KODP and I haven't gotten very far in Lights Go Out yet. >>749766707I highly recommend it to anyone who likes management/citybuilder type games, though it's pretty unique in it's niche. It's best to go in unspoiled, but my main word of advice is to always read the myths very carefully before trying to do a quest. Also, your neighbors might think you're a pussy if you don't steal some cows every now and then.>>749766709They're useless bastards right until you need them.>>749766921David Dunham did write some stuff for the tabletop, too, he was IRL buddies with Stafford.Lights Going Out fixed just about every problem I had with Six Ages.
>>749767230Holy hell, can't you let the poor ducks live in peace for once?

>>749767208that's cuz yours didn't have spice

>>749766921>Six Ages was good even if not as good as KODPI prefer Six Ages for the most part, being a horse riding clan that worships a solar god resonates with me.But it's the endings that I'm not fond off, basically they are all shit for your tribe except the one where you spend your type doing work to prove yourself to a fucking ram tribe to arrange a marriage, you doing all the fucking work is embarassing considering these guys worship the god that is killing your patheon, and the you have to protect the marriage ceremony from other much more BASED rider tribes that hate those fucking ram faggots, worse part is that this is the canon ending.
>>749767315Come on, it's free food. What's the worst that could happen? On a related note the art for the Japanese release of the Runequest books is fantastic. It's an oddly influential setting for how obscure it is these days. The mythology was a big inspiration for Kirkbride in Morrowind, Warhammer lifted the Broo wholesale as Beastmen, and the term "dragonewt" still shows up in anime and JRPGs every now and then.
>>749767421I had a picture of Majesty 1, you guys don't know what's good.
>>749767520The ending was absolutely my least favorite part of Six Ages, but Lights Going Out makes it work.

remastering a russian spectrum rts from 97, claude cli doing disassembly with help from my local emulator providing snapshots for sanity checks without user.sequential local image gen for the remastered sprites and added animations, multiple remaster levels of audio, small gore added in modern rendering.just waiting on my 3060 to finish the art gen, otherwise the new rust engine using the old logic and assets is already written.costs me about 90% of my weekly quota on the 20 bucks sub, could have been done on about a third or half had i been smarter doing it.can recommend, most retards can currently remake whatever vidya they want, it only costs 20 bucks and your soul.
>>749767392You can beat them but if you do you're in for a serious undead problem
>>749767230>I was a duck genocider>I totally destroyed one of their tribes>That centaur bitch told me to stop or he would attack>Challenge accepted>I kept doing it>I had a big tribe, lots of warriors, battle blessings and artifacts>turns out the "attack" is not an actual attack>it's an event that destroys your tribe no matter whatGarbage, so dogshit the devs are so afraid of letting the player do their own thing, for a choice based game it is actually very on rails.
>>749765475The original author of Head Over Heels recently retired from his normal job and decided to finish programming Head Over Heels 2 as a hobby project. It was originally a sequel he was working on in the late 80s but got cancelled and sat in his drawer for decades. He is 80 years old or so now.
>No alien's gonna take MY balls!

Newish but I used to play this all the time back in the early 2000s, unfortunate that the creator died before finishing the second one

>>749740394Does anyone happen to know if there is an Android port of Final Fantasy Renaissance by chance? I couldn't find anything on Google but it definitely seems like the kind of thing that would get an "unofficial" port.
I was gonna play as a solo Shepherd but then I realized you can only do that on the NES version, for reasons I don't entirely understand, you either have to play solo or play as a Shepherd in the PC version.

The pet AI was pretty much revolutionary for its time, and even today it is quite good.
I played this many years ago. I don't know if it was good or not.

>>749757338i always remember this one or the one before because you get a princess and she's ugly but she's very nice and does charity and stuff and you feel bad when she dies... it was only text but it made me feel when i was a kid.
>>749759104i remember when they made it into a FPS and I was with my cock out hoping I could kidnap and brainwash women in 3d but it was just a generic shooter...

Fun fact, this screenshot takes more space than the entire game
>>749736394It'll be valour or bravery or something like that. I was initially going with hope but the premise is that people act like dick in war but in peacetime can show they are brave, warriors heart bullshit is obvious and it turns out sharing virtues is good for society who would have fucking guessed. So I'm going with bravery or something Alex. Can't wait to find out it's spotted dick instead.

Traffic department 2192 has been my personal bugbear for longer than 4chan has existed. It's an...anomaly from 1993.>Actual game is fairly simple topdown shooter where you drive funny hovercars around shooting over hovercars in cities from the proto original GTA camera perspective.>Has a genuinely pretty good story for a game from 1993>Female protag, but she's fucking awful as a human being due to daddy issues.>You aren't gonna fucking play it nobody has even heard of it so I'll just spoil that you basically spend the entire game losing. You don't win. The actual theme of the game is learning to let go of revenge and save what you can.>End up just barely beating the bad guys enough to cut a subjugation deal because you went from controlling territory to running an underground geurilla asymmetric campaign of terror because it all went to shit. It's kind of fucked this was an early game for me and then like 99% of games for the next 20 years were still "you are a cup nigga and you shoot evil mugs have fun"

>>749780464Fuzzy memories from playing through years ago, but I don't think I'd characterize it as losing since you give as good as you get. You get pushed back a lot but considering the enemy is some kind of space empire and you're a fucking traffic cop that's pretty impressive. IIRC the reason peace is ultimately possible is because you kill off everyone who still wanted war. I'd say Vel won more than, say, Gordon Freeman
