Visual Novels thread?Full disclosure: It's AIslop but I gave a lot of instructions on translation and audited several hundred lines and gave lots of adjustments on its direction.https://github.com/Nostramadeus/shigatsu-youka-english-translation/(Note: I'm not trying to advertise anything, this is a free fan-made publicly open source release and there is no alternative English TL rn.)

>>749751397How did you do this OP? this is amazing you translate the entire thing?
>>749753403Yeah, how I did it is on the github but basically I just asked Claude. Fuck AI, fuck AIslop, fuck AI companies, etc etc etc but it is waht it is
>>749757529That's cool so shill me this VN OP why should I use it. currently I'm just impressed you managed to produce a fan translation. What do you like about this? is it a thriller? a mystery? Could you translate any VN? or did you need certain tools to hook into it.I understand hating AI but I feel like fan translation is one area we shouldn't mind it to much, especially when professional translators have a well known history of being massive faggots.
>>749759121i wanted to try it because it was super high ranked on vndb and ranked higher than a bunch of my personal favorites (and some were mystery as well)shigatsu youka is horror thriller mystery. i'm pretty faint of heart so i only read like 10-20% of it before calling it quits but thought i might as well translate it.I think it's overhyped desu but it's at least a solid 8/10 (my prediction - as i haven't finished reading the whole VN). i'd rate fate stay night between 8-8.5 as well.it's beloved because of it's atmosphere, the cool features (it feels like you're going through clues yourself), the spookiness, the main cast are lovable but i didn't find it better than my other favorite VNs like higurashi in that regard since i care about deep charactres/relationships primarily, but another thing people liked is being able to solve the mystery through like hundreds of clues and so on and everything has a reasonable logical explanation - or so they say but i didn't like the direction the mystery went.it's super long and it's scary otherwise i might have finished it anyway
>>749760834Well thanks for sharing the translation and taking the time to do it, I love the idea of a murder mystery so I'll probably try and read it later. Thanks a lot anon.
>>749762982If you don't mind being spoiled on how jumpscarey it is: there are quite a few jumpscares and one really unfair jumpscare in the menu, you can probably ask on /vg/'s /vn/ or a discord or reddit where it is specificallyotherwise the game got me so tense i felt physically uncomfortable, but i'm seriously a crybaby when it comes to these thingsTL;DR, for many people i'm sure the whole thing will be enjoyable, the only caveats i have are1) babbys will find it scary, (and the content can be disturbing, not always though but still) don't push yourself if you really feel too stressed imo2) i honestly don't think it's an all-time masterpiece to the extent that all the macabreness is justified, props to the creator though he singlehandedly created a crazily awesome experience, but i'm only saying this to say, i don't think anyone has to FORCE themselves through this just out of FOMO if they aren't enjoying it. if you are enjoying it obviously that's awesomesorry for the longwindedness i'm really sleepy. bye bye!
>>749751397>>749759121Nice, fellow mysteryge fans. For Ang anon lurking, here's THE list of good mysteryge (TM): pastebin.com/dj9T26kX But to be honest even if you haven't tried mystery VNs or VNs at all there's a lot of good stuff in that list worth taking a look at from the starter set like ace attorney Danganronpa etc to the more obscure titles out there. Enjoy!
>>749763594Awful bait and switch, you should be sorry
>>749763745But... It's for a good cause..... (´;ω;`)
>>749763330Good night anon.>>749763594I'll consider it.
>>749759121you can use claude to translate any VN but of course this is more of a "We accept that no actually professional tier translator is going to proofread this 100 hour VN for free within the next year" kind of solution. but still from F- to A+ I think you could easily get at least A- results consistently with AI translation right now.it costs money though, not too much but like a $100 monthly plan (for just 1 month) to do one long-ass VN like this one might be the right way to think about it. actually shigatsu youka required a lot of image processing and typesetting images so a normal VN probably would cost less.
>>749759121you can use cheaper subscriptions (different companies) or models (within each company) if you're okay with slightly less smart translations. actually i probably went overboard with using fable 5.1 x opus 5.5, it's just that since this is a pretty hyped story and i'm the first person releasing a translation i might as well make it kinda good. if you go a bit cheaper you could do more VNs quicker
Is this game actually good? asking people who finished the whole thing
>>749772279Kek, muramasa was so bad
vndb page makes it look pretty creepy
noh mask... spooky
>>749770102It's fantastic, yeah. If you need OP's patch you'd best wait for him to update it since there's some untranslated stuff left in, though.
You did Not experience the novel.
yeah
bruh
Guess I'm reading this next. Thanks for sharing, anon.
oh
>>749751397So how good is this actually I see it's top 10 on vndb now
>>749778567Thanks will take a look, but I'm pretty sure that's just because there's a "finished" state to stuff like that and I didn't bother to translate the unfinished versions of the images (covered with splotches anyway).
>>749757529>Fuck AI, fuck AIslop, fuck AI companies, etc etc etcyou are low iq
>>749778567What did you like about it? I'm more of a characterfag so I couldn't really get into it too much although the "holy war of the maidens" chapters in jusatsu were endearing.Did you really enjoy the direction the game ended up going in? (I looked into it a bit) - pseudoscience, history, crazy tree, cult, super strength... it strayed so far from the kind of story i thought it was. other VNs do this sort of thing too but it's hard to say without yapping for too long why i find it a bit more unfun here. in short probably how it takes everything so seriously as actual building blocks of a proper deductive process. i also thought the raw solution to jusatsu's murders was unbelievable although, i didn't read too far past jusatsu arc itself.
>>749778567So you were right about this, there is a class of puzzles that have a totally readable unsolved state and a different fully readable solved state so I'll fix those for now. Thanks for the report. Will be automatically on github soon enough
>>749778567Updated github. Anyone can just drag/drop into your old installation
>>749772279that can't be real right? kek>>749773551i didn't find it that great but i only got 2 hours into the hero route
>>749795670Does it get good
>>749788201annd?
>>749791621Is GitHub the new meta
>>749751397That's very white of you Anon.

>>749751397props for being honest a lot of fags try to hide the fact they used AI
did the author intentionally yuribait or did he just write lovable female leads lol
>>749810436no, he said before he just wanted to write about cute girls because he likes cute girls and had 0 intention of it being yuribait
