>>749794489I really don't get it though, sure you need to download individual emulators but it's all done through the menu which is fairly intuitive and takes seconds to dl. The amount of option toggling you need to go through seems commensurate with standalone emulators. In the case where you need a .dll or BIOS or something, from memory you just put it in the emu folder and enter the file directory into the Retroarch menu so it knows where tf it is... simple. Filters and shit are similarly simple. So ya I don't know. Maybe it's just a simple aesthetic preference toward one emulator or another that gives passed off as a criticism of functionality. But even the look and feel of the main menu can be changed, you can upload cover art for the games etc. I don't even feel it's superior to standalones, just never understood the hate.

When I boot up the emu I already have my controller connected and the retroarch GUI I use is pretty easy to get through with a controller. I also like the GUI that is a copy of the PS3 main menu because that menu has some nostalgia value for me and just looks/feels nice in general.
