Laptops are responsible for the fall of CRT screens. Laptops require LCD/LED screens due to physical constraints, so when consumers started moving from Desktops to Laptops, the economies of scale factor for lcd/led screens made them cheaper to produce vs. crts.

Because of their small sizes, Laptops & handheld devices are the only devices where lcd/led screens actually look good due to sufficient pixel density.
>>
CRTs were shit mate
>>
No the fall of CRTs is directly attributed to the fact that they're shit. Low res, bulky, and inconvenient to move or store. No idea why zoomers keep coming here to pretend they love CRTs when people my age remember when you had to fucking pay to get rid of them.
>>
why do zoomies fetishize CRTs so much? we threw all of ours away, anybody who actually grew up with them would be glad they're gone

Laptops & handheld devices caused a surge in lcd/led screen production, which helped lower prices for lcd/led screens in general, which gave crts a competitive disadvantage, that point is correct.

Crts were phased out because LCDs were easier to manufacture and had massive cost savings in logistics.
Crt was also mature tech that had no gains left to make, it was a good as it could ever get and came with serious limitations. Meanwhile LCD/plasma was improving fast and had alot of potential.

Gemini
>>
>>749822917
But if CRTs were so desired they would still get produced.
>>
>>749823182
It’s called logistics anon. CRT’s weigh more and take up more space so you would need more shipments that cost more individually than you do bundling together a gorillian flatscreens. Demand be damned if the customer is willing to settle for what nets you the higher margins.

>so when consumers started moving from Desktops to Laptops

lol underaged

The second flat screens became wide spread in the late 90s normies gobbled them up

It was a new modern form factor for the new century, that replaced something bulky and literally 80 years old design, no shit everyone wanted one and adapted as soon as they could afford it or it got cheaper

only now we are realizing that CRTs had some good points, everyone in the yearly 2000s treated them as outdated junk to be replaced asap
>>
A 60 inch crt would literally be impossible to function properly at that size and weigh like 700 pounds. Crt fags are idiots
>>
>>749823845
remember richfag friend having big ass rear projection tv. seemed insane that display can be that big. now it's pretty normal to have even bigger displays. crts couldn't have gone that big.

You're supposed to use a regular 15-30 inch CRT TV in a regular room & then you can have a giant crt projector in a larger room.

I really don't care and yet want you to know that I do replay, or play for first time, games on whatever screen I have. Metroid Zero Mission on TV? Nice. Rondo of Blood on chinkheld. Was fun because the game is good and not the screen it's displayed.

I've played on my CRT almost every day for the past two months while my 4k OLED has sat idle. I don't think that's about to change as I still have a fuckton of 4th and 5th gen games to play.

>How do you feel about the new ps6/xbox helix not having optical drives & being $1000+?
I find its requirement as a platform to play video games too unfulfilling to be worth that cost. It most "unfulfilling" factor is a sheer lack of any fun games to play... let alone a "new" game requirement such performance.

>also, how do you feel about the high end rtx cards?
I have no investment in the idea of owning it as a personal home device. I am sated with the performance of PCs since the year 2000.
I can argue their value on a professional-level, assuming what's being paired with has efficiency.
>>
>>749821614

Merely because a woman can now move it.

That's it.
No.

That's the reason CRTs stopped being used.

>>
>>749829565
What were 90s laptops like? Were they worth the price? Why didn't you have a pc in the 80s?
>>
>>749829695
They were bulky and fairly shit and expensive but they were ok for web browsing and emails which is all I really did desu. I'm not really sure why I never had a PC. I think I just liked the fact I could pick up my Laptop and carry it around the house and whatnot to different rooms and take it outside the house to different places rather than having a PC just in 1 room all the time. If you want to have a look at what they were like at the time I recommend checking out old episodes of this show https://youtu.be/2i0cEO2UeBg
>>
>>749829695
Just like PC in the 90s but with being bulkier due the state of tech not being compact as today.
>>
>>749829931
are you using amd integrated graphics or an nvidia card for your current laptop that you use for games? You went with nintendo instead of a gaming console/pc hybrid system like a commodore in the 80s?

I had this
Still have it around somewhere

>>
>>749830237
I had most of the major consoles along the way so I generally only played video games on consoles. I only really got into playing games on PC towards the end of the PS3/360 generation. My current laptop has an amd processor and an Nvidia gpu but I don't really play much games anymore. All I played this year was Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, Star Wars Zero Company and Blood of the Dawnwalker.

It's the same as LCDs; costs are small compared to the savings. Also; you can put them on walls too. You're not going to add 500kg worth of solar panels, just enough to charge your batteries and basic energy usage

Except I own a 2200sqft home and see no value in a CRT doing what a smaller, thinner LCD can do 99% of the time. I say this as I have two cathodes behind me taking up a whole desk.
