It is not unless you enjoy troubleshooting for the first 2 weeks and compiling your own audio drivers to fix problems and so on. Not to mention games having bugs that the developer doesn't understand and won't fix because they only happen on Linux through proton/wine.
>>
>>749858779
If you're on AMD then it's necessary because Windows AMD drivers are still trash. Also Windows kinda rapes you every day by having 8,000 programs startup on launch, telemetry never letting your fans stay low regardless of what hardware you have and constant popups, notifications and random shit happening all the time. It also feels sluggish compared to any decent wm in Linux.

Linux userspace is often described as broken or unstable because Linux does not provide one unified, consistently managed userspace platform. It provides a kernel surrounded by a large ecosystem of independently developed libraries, services, desktop environments, configuration systems, package managers, and distributions.

That fragmentation has real consequences: applications break across distributions, upgrades change system behavior, configuration formats become incompatible, and software written for one Linux environment may not work in another—even when both systems run Linux.

The strongest criticism is not that everything in Linux userspace is inherently unreliable. It is that the ecosystem has no single authority enforcing compatibility across all its layers.

I don't get how people can act like they've never had to hunt down a .dll on windows. You download the libraries, drop it in a folder, and link it with one line pasted to the terminal. I'll grant that it's one more step than windows but if you're already googling around for libraries you can figure it out. If it's open source then you don't even need to worry, it'll just compile unless you're treading some truly ancient ground.

AI in itself is not what will lead to the enshittification of the kernel, it's the brownskins and clueless retards that use it that will. And the fear (a very valid one at that) is that AI will enable these kinds of creatures to make changes to the kernel, review patches, and over time achieve authority in the Linux kernel development. After x amount of minutes, mouse movement causes FPS drops.
Steam overlay crash loops, causing the steam client to steal focus from fullscreen game.

It's insane how shit Valve is at software.

This happened when I disabled steam recording while keeping overlay on. So disable or enable both.

You have no idea how much shit there is if you think you can block all of it. Linux just works. Windows will forever rape you and you will keep getting raped by Windows forever. Get raped. Keep getting raped. You are raped. You will always be raped. Raped. You got raped. Windows rapes you. Windows raped you. Windows will rape you.

I don't use Linux, but even I am probably going to switch to it. I'm tired of bloated nonsense. Also people meme about it not working but it actually does "just work." It's been streamlined.

My greatest fear is just pajeets izzat farming with ai tools in my team

The maintainers that use ai were fucking based cause their debugging work has actually improved. And as usual, the boomer senior devs don't understand AI
>>
>>749873821
It just works unless you're unlucky and something doesn't, then you need to become your own tech support department. Thankfully AI makes it a lot easier to fix problems because you don't have to get help from some greasy nerds who hate you.

Maybe it's my controller, I have a DS3.
But it seems to work just fine as an xinput pad in other games.
I've had this issue for over a year now with several games, my setup has changed since, went from bottles to faugus, also tried a bunch of proton forks. Only the distro (fedora) and packaging (flatpak) remained the same.

I swapped from w11 iot ltsc to Fedora one evening. Haven't really considered going back. Even got my funny beacn mic working with a fix on github. All my MMOs work so I really don't need more than that. Outside of gaming, I found it was much easier to setup split tunneling on linux without any kind of leaks. I want to talk about, and recommend, it to my friends but I don't want to be that guy.

I can try that game on Fedora since I have it installed on my memepad.
Give me some time.

???
What do you mean by "finally"? You just click play and the game runs. Maybe you might need to change which version of proton you're using but protondb exists. I use an intel CPU and nvidia GPU and games run perfectly fine. What are you talking about?

Linux is so shit, there should be a "just play" button that auto selects the best proton
And I use Nvidia, would I still lose performance using Linux?
>>
>>749881045
directx12 can never be on linux unless microsoft explicitly forbids it
what is there is vkd3d, it translates directx12 calls into vulkan calls, which is how people play games on linux using proton
>>
>>749883130

>>
>>749883127
>there should be a "just play" button that auto selects the best proton
There's no way to know what the "best Proton" is without the kind of user reporting that you're complaining about, because no single version is best for everything. Even if you pick the latest release of whatever fork best suits your use case, you'll probably see regressions.
Also this isn't an issue with Linux itself except in that it's illegal for the Linux kernel to just contain a copy of Windows to eliminate the need for Wine.
If you just want an OS that behaves like Windows, good news: there already is one.
