AI “vibe coding” is starting to create a serious problem for the video game industry.

The release of Claude Opus 5.5 has made it much easier to decompile and recompile games, leading to a wave of unofficial ports, mods and game clones. Publishers are already filing DMCA takedowns over some of this activity. Kotaku

Former Take-Two AI chief Luke Dicken says developers and publishers need to take the trend seriously:

“This new wave of decompile-and-port is definitely something that developers and publishers need to take seriously.”
“More invasive DRM, platform-level solutions, and probably more of a push towards streaming solutions.”

Godot executive director Emilio Coppola puts more responsibility on platforms such as Steam, arguing that developers have very few ways to protect themselves while bad actors can profit from selling AI-made clones:

“The burden should fall onto the platforms who are enabling this sort of behavior.”

There’s also a growing concern among indie developers about showing unfinished games publicly. Coppola says he has heard from developers who are now:

“Worried and anxious to even share early access versions of their games”

companies can't sell stuff because people will just wait for free alternatives, AI idea guys can't sell stuff because their shit is still low quality, it costs a fortune to upkeep but none of the money from businesses that do succeed with it is coming back to the AI companies. the only reason shit isn't going down already is because the rich and powerful have too much money in the hole trying to make a personal utopia where they don't have to pay humans anymore.
it cant last forever, but it would be really nice if it exploded sooner or later so we're not dealing with an even worse aftermath than what could happen right now

I've already made fully functional prototypes of FIVE 2d games with Claude in literally just 3 full days, ranging from platformers, brawlers, rpg, castlevania clone etc .

Uh, this isn't the own that you think it is. Making shitty rehash prototypes is easy. Making polished games with interesting and unique mechanics is hard. AI has yet to prove itself capable of the latter.

I fucking love AI. It's allowed me to mod games in ways I never thought possible. I personal favorite of mine was turning the original PS1 Silent Hill in to a horror themed FPS. Even got a mini map working that update markers in real time. No longer do I have to open the map screen every thirty seconds. Also increased the draw distance to the point where the whole map is loaded in , but don't worry, I kept the fog intact. This shit is fucking magic.

This is nonsense, nobody is selling this shit. This is not something that is happening. Publishers are being humiliated because a hobbyist can now release a better port than an AAA team can. It's showing how incompetent and unprofessional teams like Grove Street games were releasing the demasters of the GTA3 series games, when a single person can do a far better job. Developers don't like being humiliated

>>
>>749905336 (Me)
Here's an example of the increased draw distance. As you can see, the whole map is loaded in, resulting in a much higher draw distance. Still not too sure how thick I should make the fog. What do you anons think? Should I lessen the fog some more, or is this good enough?
>>

>>

>>
>>749905752
I think the most I could do is make pick-ups that could increase a specific gun's damage and ammo capacity. But that might also fuck up the game's balance by making enemies too easy to kill with fully upgraded guns. I would also have to buff the monsters to compensate for the stronger guns, and that would require me to do multiple days of playtesting to make sure everything feels good to play.

We will make it the modding thread

MGS4xDS1 anon here, CQC finally works at a basic level (the MGS4-side item drops can be patched out easily later) after quite a while of having claude do some back and forth figuring out issues with depth and g-buffer fighting that made everything flash grey during CQC attempts.
This weeks usage has been mostly spent on:
>CQC (and very extensive fixes)
>Retargeting snake to dark souls animations so he doesn't just float around while swtiches are being pushed and such
>Octocamo implementation
>Solid eye night vision
I still have like 25% usage left, so I'll playtest more and log some annoying or game breaking issues for claude to sort out. Good times.

It's too late you fucking faggot, all the assets, blueprints, and systems are in our hands already. It is quite literally too late for you disgusting bastards. I want the people to democratize and take everything you have. I want you to have to sit there and watch as you all go broke and have to work for a living. I'd like it playable from the start of dark souls to the end, with as much of the MGS4 kit as possible usable and a choice of difficulty levels with some unique mechanics like an alert system that spawns more enemies in so stealth remains an actual part of the game. Dark souls enemies all have an aggro and player awareness system anyway, so conceptually I can just have claude alter those numbers and systems a little to make it happen.

how much is sub and which tier do I need to get the decomp capabitlites? i need to decomp some games so I could learn programming and coding from the source codes. learning what each lines do. i have no background and trying to refresh my highschool maths and learning c# now for Unity.
the games i'd like to learn from are:
>Noio's Kingdom
>Papers Please
>No I'm Not Human
>Celeste maybe for the tight platorming controls and feel
>Rain World maybe? for the dynamic creature motions / animations?
yes I know some of those are really simple like Kingdom but it's neat, and my goal is not to steal source code and just slap animay shit on top ot it. I actually want to learn from the codes.. as I said I've no background and is an absolute fucking beginner pleb in coding..

There are plenty of games that can be decompiled without any AI tool. Unity/Godot games can be decompiled easily using normal programs. And they provide the real source code, the exact way their programmer wrote, with the same names etc.
AI decompilation prolly uses reverse engineering tools that recreate all the code but nothing from the original source code can be seen, so the models will need to discover what each part of the code might do. This is expensive and will not teach you anything about how the game was made.
>>
>>749908440
Decompilations are not really "code", it's machine generated stuff that's like a C/C++ rendition of the optimised assembly. The AI can sort of make some stuff up about what the source might have been but ultimately it would be the worst learning resource you could get. Ghidra will give you the same level of usability on the source.
When it comes to unity games, you can usually recover the scripts 1:1 with the original through normal unity asset extractor programs. No silly AI needed.

What AI is useful for (for certain definitions of useful) is *changing* the source without understanding what you're doing. It's able to add things to the crap source in a way even experienced coders would balk at.
