Post you are favourite JRPG that no one talks about any more and then talk about it. I would personally like Sega to stop forgetting they have a bunch of Wild Arms games they could slightly remaster and release on PC.
>>749990050
on the topic of Wild Arms: not my favorite JRPG, but WA2 is my favorite of the whole series. i just wish it didn't have the shitty translation job that it had. if the series ever get a remaster of any kind, i'd happily welcome it.
>>749990050I'm not posting mine because I'd need to think about it more, but Wild Arms 3 is fucking greatDESU the final stretch was a bit dumb, but most everything else was greatFantastic soundtrack
>>749990050I don't know why I said Sega, I meant Sony
It's not my favorite but I really like it and nobody talks about itIt's been too long since I played to recall much, but the Xenogears-esque combat system was great. It was just the right mix of generic JRPG plus interesting mechanics and atmosphere
>Unironically wanting the current videogame industry to molest those classicsYou people don't really like those games / franchises; you're just hipster posers.
>>749991206He did say "slightly", but you're right that they should be left well alone.
I am replaying Star Ocean 4.Playing as Reimi this time instead of Edge so early game is going a lot more smoothly. My controller literally turned itself because of how long some of the cutscenes which yeah, that's seventh gen JRPGs in a nutshell.I really love how heavily 4 leans into the sci-fi with your visiting different planets. I wish there more games like it. The combat animations are a lot better than the newer entries too. Also I find funny how quite a bit of the conversation surrounding this game in Japan boils down to complaining how the female characters are TOO appealing/fan-servicey, looking at the state of the genre and gaming as a whole right now.
>>749990532I played this as a kid/teen without thinking too much about but going back to it the world-building is surprisingly good. Noa a cute.
Stella Glow for 3DS.
>>749992465Been meaning to play this, it's not a JRPG despite the anime look though
>>749990532>2 sucks mega assDid Jade Cocoon 2 also suck? I can't recall.
>>749993859Never played Jade Cocoon 2. I don't remember Legaia 2 being all that terrible but I certainly liked 1 more
>>749990050Somethin about threes
>>749990050>>749990237sell me on these games. is the story cool? i looked them up but they looked like very by the numbers jrpgs for children
>>749996250Story is fun but nothing exceptional, it shines in setting and music i.e. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFY_dCZCfYohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS19rrW3HS8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7jOKDQOeZchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBuWNO1mxcIGameplay varies from game to game, 1 and 2 are basic and 3 adds a bit more to that style and then 4 and 5 completely mix it up with a weird grid system that was pretty fun in 5.For my money: 3 > 5 > 2 > 1 >4
>>749990237>guy I know continues to defend WA2's script because that's how translations were in the 90s>I point out that 1's script was just fine>this breaks his programming and he just repeats himselfI love 2 in everything but writing quality and difficulty but come on
pic related has dating sim mechanics
>>749996250It's a JRPG with Western vibes.
>>749990050The Last Remnant >>749992587it's a jrpg made by a western studio, you can try to play it, but you'll need a guide for the obtuse point and click puzzles and the fucking mazes that consist of the later part of the game
>>749996172Some excellent spritework
>>749990050https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TYJxvlTqt4Wild Arms 3 IS my favorite JRPG
>>749990050Wild Arms 3 is my favorite Wild Arms game, fun cast, amazing soundtrack, easily the most yee-haw wild west jrpg out there if you don't count Live-A-Live
>>749999624I used to get Wild Arms & Wild Guns mixed up
>>749999362https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyalHwMVeygFate Breaker is probably my favourite track
5 and XF did really badly, the mobile game was their attempt to get it back in the fold but it flopped so hard the franchise is in stasis until 2030 at the very earliest.
>>750000703Which is fucking annoying because 5 is really good (Badly aged dub aside) but I don't think it's even on PSN unlike the others.
>>750000703I remember enjoying 5...
>>750001509>they got the team together>plot was actually interesting>it was a gacha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XG8fqutbafAIts a shame it got canned.
>>749990237I’m secretly kind of glad the crowdfunding campaign for the WA spiritual successor fell apart, because the art direction was dogshit.
>>750000648For me its https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyCMi19fRSoThe Ruins of Memories was in the demo disc back in the day also I find its kidna cool you return to the dungeon later and of course the plotwist with Asgard
>>750002410it didn't fall apart, it and the other game it was tied to both got fully funded, but of course they didn't ask for the amount they needed, they asked for a token amount they could parade to publishers, and no publisher wanted to touch it because both titles they were pushing had to be bought together, and both were based on tremendous commercial flops lmao.It was just a gigantic fucking retarded idea, kickstarter is poison, companies keep using it as a seed round instead of for the extra push they need, and then they fail out cause they need WAY more money. same shit happened to mighty number 9.
>>749990532I remember this one because they gave you a choice of ending up with your bitchy gf who starts seeing another villager while you’re off adventuring or a 10yo feral girl. I chose the feral girl and the game tried to make me feel bad about it.
>>750002918Well yeah I mean come on that's pretty fucked up
>>750003195IIRC the MC’s only like 14, surely that age gap isn’t too problematic?
>>750003315Yeah but regardless of when you played it, if you ever replay it as an adult or even if you didn't replay it but are an adult now I'm going to judge your actions as an adult and I'm going to insist you did this on the basis of sexual urges and I'll tell all my friends on bluesky and discord and
>>750003419I'm still seething that I bricked my game in the final stretch, one day I will replay and finish it.
>>749990237The ost for wild arms 2 is so fucking underrated. Especially the 2nd opening.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSQceg4CELM
>>750004301You can do it
Its weird how nobody ever try to do the WA formula of JRPG with Wild West. Or maybe Im missing a bunch of examples.
>>750005401If you don't mind earthbound sloppa:>https://store.steampowered.com/app/313470/Boot_Hill_Heroes/it also has a sequel that's okay.>https://store.steampowered.com/app/597220/West_of_Loathing/was an ultra popular youtuber game when it came out, it's like stick RPG combat, almost.Outside of those, Wasteland, desperados, fallout (sorta). Then of course there's the Metal Max games, but those are mad max wild west, not rooty tooty point n shooty wild west.
>>749992513That game gets brought up all the time on /v/. Granted, it's mostly because of picrel
>>750004508I tried WA2 a couple of years ago on an anon’s suggestion, but ultimately had to drop it because of the nearly incomprehensible translation.
>>750005510>West of Loathing>DesperadosWell I was thinking about japan but yeah I played those.
>>749990050>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFtnnc0-YoA>game has its own anime intro AND outro>changes as you progress through the gameWA3 is just overflowing with sovl.
>>749990050Learn how to use an emulator already.
>>749996250No story in a video game is good.
>>749996250they are pretty typical jrpgs with somewhat above average dungeon design and great soundtracks. play them if you like jrpgs and western movies.
