Can't really shake the feeling I get while playing it that I do not belong since I never played it originally and I'm a tourist but someone complimented me on my pulling and it gave a nice feeling. It's a pretty nice game because absolutely everything in it takes a metric fuck ton of time to accomplish so when you're in a group with people and you're getting the XP ticking up it feels really substantial and like you're part of a mass effort to push further into the game. Conversely you can spend 2-3 grinding occult crescent for phantom XP and feel like you're making 0 progress at all because everything in FFXIV is completely fucking meaningless. I don't really know how SE completely are unable to come up with meaningful long term grinds, and the grinds they do put into the game feel longer and more brutal than just sitting in a corner of the dunes killing lizards for 2 hours because it's 2 hours of doing optimal rotations on HP sponges with no interesting group interactions ever.
