What are /v/'s thoughts on I-Frames in modern action games?
>>
I-frames are necessary in action games, this is like asking people's thoughts on oxygen in flames
>>
I think they're fine even if it is the latest thing contrarians have latched onto
>>
>>750104505
>Years pass without anyone whining about the mechanic
>ER comes out
>Reeeee iframes are bad design!
>I really really hate rolling but will never use any other the other defensive tools
Really makes you think
>>
>>750104505
Invincibility frames are good because the player expects to feel rewarded for planning his attacks and jumps. Making the player work for something like a fight or a platforming section and giving him no recompense or relief is almost like torture. The I-frames make the game seem a little less annoying.

FTFY OP!

Only if the enemies also get iframes.
I demand EQUAL fights.

I think I-frames are a crutch for people who're bad at gamedesign.
Ideally you shouldn't be in position where you get hit, the game should be designed around that otherwise it's a QTE with extra steps.

Retarded souls slopper post. There were many action games without it before souls ruined the action genre
>>
>>750104701
>>750104778
Souls fatigue is real and am tired of sharing this board with souls niggers
>>
>>750105072
>>750105128
I don't even like souls games, I-frames exist in every single CAG in history and you would know that if you actually played them
>>
>>750105352
Monster hunter
Dragons dogma
At best they have a single class with I-frames.
>>
>>750105352
What a retarded post. There were dozens of action games that either didn't have I-frames or they were an extremely small part of the game
>>
>>750104891
yeah but no one cares what you think about anything because you're a third world pajeet that posts on /v/
>>
>>750104505
I-frames are basically bugs, no? It happens when character have some animations that devs didn't program the interruption of, or character don't have collision during.
>>
>>750105656
>Dragons dogma
lmao why dodge when you can infinitely menu heal

Why mad retard kun? Bad at videogames and need a panic button?
>>
>>750106006
Who said I disagreed with you? Who said I agreed with you? Maybe I didn't even read your post

Reread my previous post, and you may have your true answer...
>>
>>750104891
You are genuinely very stupid
>>
>>750104505
We are currently in an era of peak rollslop because of their excess.
>>
>>750105352
Zelda
Sifu
Ninja gaiden
Get off my board
>>
Has anyone made a rolling dark souls basedjak yet?
>>
>>750104505
>modern
I-frames in action games existed since the ancient times
>>
>Little bit of leeway in missing a button press vs frame perfect button press
>>

>Retarded faggot makes a dogshit point
>Then contradicts himself
OP (WW) is a faggot, go back
>>
>>750109827
What's the contradiction in op's image?
>>
>>750104505
i-frames and parries will not go away as long as casual console controllers remain the norm.
If the game has even a modicum of skill expression, then there is no other way to incorporate face buttons into regular gameplay if the player is expected to also perform actions on the right analog stick to remain functionally aware of what they are doing. Likewise a timing challenge like a parry is the peak of button economy masquerading as player skill expression.
>>
Bring positioning back as the main form of safety. Its not just the most intuitive but also the most complex
>>
>>750105072
>>750105128
literally every souls game can be finished without rolling or parrying at all, there is even challenge videos of all of them where the games are beaten without even blocking or gettng hit a single time, just by good positioning and timing.
the sequels only ever increased the choices of viable defensive options with ER having the most by far
>>
>>750111524
Every souls game after d1 buffs I-frames to the point that ds3 shields are under powered and basically a challenge run. Sekiro and Bloodborne aren't evil playable without I-frames. So besides Demon Souls and DS1 the series is roll slop
>>
>>750104778
>enemy behavior state machine has remained dead simple even as the combat mechanics changed
>and you only care about that now? hypocratic oath much?
do you have any opinions on player-type enemies compulsively rolling the moment the player uses a projectile? is it good or bad and why?
>>

they only changed it so you actually have to make a build for shields, but you can safely destroy bosses with them and there is webms of people just poking the final dlc boss in ER to death while hiding behind a greatshield.
every sequel also buffed parries alongside dodges making it possible to parry more and more bosses, ER added jumping attacks and many attacks can be jumped over.
sekiro and bloodborne both can be beaten without dodging or deflecting/parrying
>>
>>750113713
The fact this title exists means it is clearly not the intended way to play. Sekiro and bb were designed around I-frame abuse.
>>
>>750113713
People have figured out how to beat Mario without jumping as well. It doesn't change what the core mechanic is
>>
If you want an example how it feels to play an action game without i-frames go play a character in a fighting game without a reversal
It feels like absolute dogshit
>>
>>750114006
>>750114056
I'm aware that these games are more restrictive than the mainline From souls games, the point is that it is not impossible to ever do anything but dodge or parry and in some situations positioning might even be a viable option for a normal player that is not doing a challenge speedrun
>>
>>750104505
There's no reason for modern games to use i-frames, just make accurate hitboxes.
>>
I heard Monster Hunter is anti rollslop
Which one is the best?
>>
>>750109827
I watched the video too. What contradiction? Seems like more people are getting sick of rollslop
>>
>>750114156
fightans are a poor comparison, since even if we pretend that "wakeup dp" is a constitutional right, the whole genre is built on top of juggling hitboxes and hurtboxes (so disabling former entirely should be a rare occurence anyway)
from that perspective, ER had a decent idea in evasive jump, but ultimately it just ended up being a simple way to dualwield ultragreatswords or an even dumber PRESS X TO NOT DIE button, like with the bigass wicker golems requiring a small leg-invincibile hop to avoid the hellish inferno they spawn

I know who you are op
