I'm giving it a month when the new expac comes out. I'll do the extreme trials, but no Savage. Probably won't even bother with my crafters unless I'm fully back. I gave up around the middle of 7.1, occasionally coming back to plot watch, or try and get back into it, only for the attempt to just feel hollow and futile.I just want Evolved mode to be fun. I was a Black Mage main who just got completely broken by how they treated it in Dawntrail. It went from a 10/10 with the closest runner up being a 7/10, to being around a 3/10.(I didn't intend to rant here, my hands were just moving on their own, Onii-chan.)Story not withstanding, the first month of Dawntrail was an absolute rollercoaster for me. I had this huge well thought out plan to make my own crafted gear for raiding day 1. I took merciful breaks from the story to level my gatherers (not even ARR made me feel like I needed to do that). I spammed fates and hunts to gather nuts and gems for materials and materia. Grinded up my crafters in sequence, doing the hardest ones with the story quests to ease the process. And finally, I must have crafted hundreds of Tacos and Pancakes to get the crafter materia to penta-meld my shiny new gear set. It all went perfectly, and I had a nearly full penta-melded set of spell speed casting gear (due to 7.0, the class was fucking miserable to play at default cast speed. Plus, I just like playing with high speed) It seemed to all go well until a couple moments of cockiness, and then desperation left me with less than enough time to get the M4S clear. Next week after clearing the first three fights again, I got my clear, and the weapon drop directly, so all in all, I'd say it worked out. Though, it did mean that I would do the rest of my M4S clears as Red Mage just in case that weapon dropped.

Meanwhile difficult raids must be learned for each mechanic, and can only be practiced in that specific fight. It can just get exhausting to need to do that too much.

You can join in at anytime and none of the content feels like cul-de-sac because you can either reasonably solo it at level cap or because it's being kept alive by the duty roulette system. Cringe at me for making a WoW comparison but I feel like it needs be made. To this day, I have never seen XIV have a "Is it too late to start?" moment like WoW regularly does. Not to say that XIV doesn't have it's own share of FOMO like picrel but it still so much more tolerable compared to WoW. The only real downside of XIV is its glamour system. The moment it ditches the wardrobe and have a collection tab is the moment XIV wins forever.

Stormblood is 50-50 between dogshit and kino. It's both at the same time. Trials are cool and the music's nice and the story's decent for an mmo and outright good at times. Gameplay itself gets really stale though imo and is why I can't bring myself to play the game again no matter how many free login periods I use to try and get back into it. The races are kinda bad and boring compared to other mmos even if I personally like roes, lala and middies. If you try it though hope you have fun, but again wait until the game isn't fucked up.
