Who the fuck developed the Z.O.E. project? It was belka? We see those around in AC2, and they resurface in AC7 without being mentiones as their name. We also have the same thing in 8 with the IA on the X-40, and also the submarine. Is it all still Z.O.E.? is it belka behind it again?

Yes, Grunder was part of a major belkan conspiracy. As far as we know ZOE was destroyed permanently by trigger. However the advanced morgan designs still exist and are obviously still being worked on.
>>
>>750107063
The Z.O.E. AIs were made by the South Belka Munitions Factory, also known as Gründer Industries. The Usean rebels used them in AC2 and Phoenix shot them down. Gründer kept refining them in secret until their redeployment in AC7, and Trigger pretty much destroyed the whole Z.O.E. project. Its only possible legacy might be Nemo, but that's just fan speculation. It has nothing to do with the X-40 or the submarine, the latter especially is a separate project by Enso (which GR later acquired) called "Darkness of Enigma", the same one that created the X-49 Night Raven.
>>
>>750108151
>the former especially*
And on that note, I don't think the UAVs in AC8 were Z.O.E.s either, they're nowhere near as impressive as the ones in 7.

Yeah, but what bothers me, is that the Z.O.E. never get mentioned, there is no one who ever even say the name or aknowledge it, is just a 3 letters painted on some plane. It feels weird for a thing ad old as AC2. PA clearly thought about it, but why don't expand on it?

Yeah that too is kinda weird. I mean, every AC game feels like they wanted to do more, but they couldn't, bur overall, the games where pretty tight. Then 7 went into thi development hell, the story is a mess, like..why all this? They made a very good thing with 8

I hope Dision is an actual terrorist outside of simulation so Simon wouldn't just be "lol evil belkan scientist" and more of unhinged guy that doesn't mind Nemo actually do good to other pilots as long as he delete Dision. Airforce Delta Strike seems fun enough, some of the weapons and terrains are absurd in a good way, but the sheer amount of radio chatter gives me a headache
I can handle AC games just fine in that regard, but if you ever thought "man this is a little much, shut up" while playing 8 or something I can't imagine what it'd be like to play that for long periods
At least the girls are cute, shame about the lack of porn
It's something I'll get back to after I completely run out of Ace Combat, I think
>>
Seriously though I finished AC3 yesterday and it was really fucking interesting
I really like how they deal with the idea of playing out a simulation, it didn't make the playthroughs retrospectively "useless", it just drove the nail that Nemo being let out into the world can't end well

It's also pretty crazy to think that 2 years from the end of AC8, Dision gets blowed up, and 3 years from that, Simon could already be working on his simulation

I'm really excited by the little details PA has been sprinkling everywhere which validate AC3's setting too, like like Simon and Yohko working on the AI project in AC7
But I'm also thinking that the simulation of 2040, with AEON generators in Expo City, the Megafloat as we see it in game, and the Geofront, aren't necessarily how these places and project will look in actual 2040 (they're more likely to still be mainly projects by that point, half-finished or half-started)
>>
>>750109218
It's not really in the game but it's in the official story published by along with the game, weird shit, but it's mainly just because AC7's whole story is weird, and they probably couldn't spare more cutscenes delving into that side of the narrative

He made the simulation in the first place to ensure that Dision would be killed, so presumably it's accurate enough to have that be carried out when Nemo is deployed in the real world
Of course that doesn't mean it's going to be flawless, Simon himself is incredibly flawed so there's likely plenty of things he didn't account for, but I don't think he'd deploy Nemo without getting all the basics like people and places nailed down

But I don't know, the whole private Enso interweb shown by DD is a lot like a very developed but early version of our internet, and I can imagine that it's a good basis for the future electrosphere (which was meant to be "the future of the internet")

They can (and will) pull out the "lol simulation" card any time they want to handwave any differences between AC9 and 3. The question is *what* they'll change. The tech gap right now between 2030 and Electrosphere isn't crazy at all, aside from sublimation. What they most likely will change is the setting- OG AC3 was a pre-Strangereal game, "USEA" was the United States of Euro-Asia, there was no Osea, Yuktobania, Belka, nothing. And a cornerstone of the premise that the megacorps like GR have effectively rendered all nations de facto governments, and with how powerful Yuktobania and Osea are, we would need to see how they fit in into that picture. AC8 has already setup Usea's corporate takeover.

And one of the directors that went on to work with Cavia on Drakengard/Nier...

The presentation in AC3 excels, not just in style but in how it's implemented:
>As soon as the PS1 boot screen finishes, you get a 'presented by namco' screen with a CRT power on effect
>Main menu options are 'new account', 'download', 're-open' - this connects your Data Swallow account, everything in the game UI is governed by DS
>When you finish an ending, the game abruptly ends the scene with a CRT power off effect (Simon's program basically ends and goes back to another branch)
>The game discs themselves are something that 'shouldn't exist' - they have "PROJECT NEMO ARCHIVE DISC" printed on them and Simon was supposed to purge it all

You are essentially executing Simon's program via your Playstation.
>>
>>750133342
So much soul
There are also the moments where Simon speaks to you or the simulation kinda breaks and the screen becomes fuzzy, which must have looked amazing on a CRT

I'm not sure Nemo really "chooses" to follow a specific path, and that maybe he thinks more along the lines of "let's just try out every available option"
That makes Nemo a bit more inhuman in my mind, because he never cares about the other characters, only what outcome they'll help achieve (total Dision death)

That's one of those bits where the simulation's probably doing its own thing
the Geofront as it looks in the game isn't very realistic given the timeframe and the scale of it, so maybe what we see is more a mix of "what it could be" and "how it's planned to be"
Would be fun if in AC9 we end up fighting in the Geofront but under construction, caverns connected by tunnels, underground lakes, a bit like the Project Wingman DLC tunnel run

Erich points out that before awakening as his own entitety/being controlled by the player, nemo started out by copying fiona and rena's moves. He also directly asks nemo to stay with him, as he's the only one he can count to support him (and since fiona eventually leaves for neucom while rena leaves for ourobouros, he's not wrong).

It's also not accidental that erich, fiona, cynthia and keith are the ones to take down dision in their respective routes, with nemo only taking matters in it's own hands in dision's route.

RELENTLESSLY Kinographic. Is there a non-zero chance we'll go back to the anime art style for AC9?

I doubt it, just because I really don't see PA being comfortable with handing off large amounts of the cutscenes to an anime studio, but I think the character style they introduced for AC8 will work.

I wouldn't be opposed, but I think a lot of people would be taken aback because Ace Combat hasn't looked like this for 20 years. Especially in-engine, you've seen the characters in full 3D for a while now. They're not hyper realistic with extreme detail but they look like normal people.
The only way I'd expect a complete anime rendition of AC9 is if it was basically AC3+, same "story" and moments expanded with like a second act / "this is what actually happens" route, all from Nemo's perspective, and I don't think they'll do that. I think the game will have a similar overall aesthetic but not visual style, best we can hope for is an official version of JP AC3 translated into other languages as the next pre-order bonus.

When you think about it, if AC9 is AC3 (real) then it has the absolute fucking kino opportunity of putting AC3's staunchly more grim plot and tone up against AC's modern, more hopeful tone
Nemo embodying the dark future, and (you), the new singularity embodying the hopeful one.
>>
>>750137547
not a fighter pilot
>>
>>750148862
The real kino would be to treat nemo as a full fledged singularity that can actually shoot down the player without the game forcing you to retry to continue the story. No more mihaly being scripted to be invincible until it's time for the player to beat him, no more putting pixy in the final fight that you have to win lest the world be nuked, i mean actual ace to ace combat throughout the story.

>>750150363
Once you get good, solo ace fights in this series are either over too quickly to feel satisfying or they have to cheat one way or another, since you'll pretty much never get hit yourself which means there's no feeling of back and forth. It's why I was okay with Pasternak showing up with 2000 UAVs in his boss fight and going mach 5 when you shot at him
>>
>>750130124
I'd show Rena a DATA SWALLOW.
>>
>>750149737
I've been thinking that singularity vs singularity is one of the big things they still have left to do, where the enemy ace is actually out there doing sorties at the same rate as (You) and they're actively taking back land as you take it from the enemy
maybe Nemo even builds a squad over the course of the game because he sees that singularities usually have a couple people they fly with
so the entire game is basically Nemo learning to be a real boy while gearing up to kill Dision and (You) for getting in his way

Yeah, that's the most likely plan I feel, we're just way too close NOT to go over AC3's story even if it's more of an exposition dump.
>>
>>750166181
I feel like a DLC mission wouldn't do it justice, it really feels choked full of potential for a full expansion kind of game.
>>
>>750166261
Not with how long these titles take now. If we were still on a 1-2 year turn around then fine, but I'm not waiting 5+ years for a conflict that doesn't really add anything when Electrosphere is right there.
We also don't need 2 games in a row with Sotoans as the main enemy.
>>
>>750165834
Since both 7 and 8 have emphasized how the player character can be a variable that defies expectation, seems like that's laying the groundwork for a game where 3 starts happening but then goes off the rails.

And grieving for her dead sister in the only route where she lives. Putting her down is a mercy.

>>750166347
Yeah, that's my main issue. I'd be fine with two games back to back if it was faster to make these games but no fucking way that's gonna happen. I mostly just want to see how hype Tasha's mom was, honestly.

I like the idea of essentially a man-made singularity, that being Nemo, going against an actual singularity which will probably be our new protagonist.

I think if you had the new guy kill Nemo you'd end up pissing off a lot of Japs.
>>
>>750166842
Would they care? They know what the deal is, and AC3's true end isn't exactly a happy one. Making Nemo the recurring rival since it's as an AI monster that keeps coming back via backups/data transfers would be cool.

I feel like no matter how you cut it, "Nemo" is still a protagonist in the series. While the events of AC3 are the results of possible choices he could make, the player is the one making those choices and their reasons could be robotic autism completionist tendencies to see all routes or emotionally driven to follow a certain character's story. In that sense, Nemo has or can grow to have a character of his own.
I think it'd be cool to have whoever the protagonist of AC9 is be similarly-aligned to UPEO, so Nemo is a fellow ace pilot on different missions and he helps you on a couple. Then he goes rogue and starts doing his own thing, which culminates in you shooting him down. But then he comes back later, you learn about his true nature, and you fight him another time. He comes back again, not fighting you but trying to achieve things around the world, maybe there's a scene where he crashes a plane into something important to stop it, and he kind of sets the stage for you to accomplish your final goal in the war. Final scene for him could be hijacking some unmanned space flight to explore the universe after all's said and done.

Not really, I've been playing on PS and it's surprisingly easy to get S ranks at least on Normal. Not to mention the game is super fucking short, so repeat playthroughs with better planes will be easy as shit.

We are assuming nemo is a pure ai, but simons' doctorate thesis is "Basic Theory of Artificial Intelligence Organization by Genetic Information Conversion"

Memo might be sublimated pilot modified/brainwashed to accomplish simon's revenge.

After 7 came out I thought 8 would be AC3 (real)
I don't get why people think it would actually be the case next time when we still have like 10 more years down the timeline, I think they're fine stretching things out until then. Unless it's just newfags finding out about the series for the first time.

I am playing through 3, my first ace combat. I already got the list of what to check out next but is there any other game similar to 3's vibe and atmosphere, seriously stylish game, i love it.
>>
How long did it take for Bamco to take out Denuvo from AC7? I'm not playing 8 until that shit's gone. I got 7 with all the topgun dlc for less than $10 and with no denuvo on top, so I can be patient.

Drakengard 1 definitely shares some similarities in tone especially with the situation getting more fucked the further the game goes, and half of the game is ace combat but on a dragon. Drakengard's project name was actually Dragonsphere in reference to AC3. You just have to deal with the musou part which can be kind of a slog.
>>
AC9 being AC3 but in the 'real' world with Nemo left to roam free would be cool as fuck, but any players who didn't play PN or LWT's patches would be completely lost...
Remaking all 50+ missions for a modern title would be a gargantuan task, too.
Maybe they could pull an Innocent Aces and do a little OVA for Simon's simulation arc?
>>
>>750170569
AC3's vibe and atmosphere are pretty unique, but check out Drakengard (maybe just in video) as the other anon said. Same director (Iwasaki).
If you meant the graphical style instead, other Namco titles from the era fit, such as Ridge Racer Type 4. There's also Techno Drive on arcade (exact same UI designer). From a different company, genre and region (Europe) there's Wipeout - you have some Y2k futuristic visual elements courtesy of The Designers Republic and it features fast flying ships that can use weapons such as plasma missiles and mines.

Fair enough, though Drakengard 3 is its own beast. I really hated how they dropped the roaming flight from 1 for a star fox corridor flight gameplay. Didn't help that they shifted more to land missions than flight missions. And they got rid of being able to wreck a land mission by jumping on your dragon. I didn't hate Drakengard 3, but it really didn't feel like the sequel to 1 that I wanted.

AC from 4 onwards is a different beast when it comes to themes. Nothing really approaches 3's themes. Guess Bamco was heavily into Ghost In The Shell back then (they got the same studio to make the anime cutscenes and chara designs after all).
Nier Automata does kinda have similar themes with the whole android/person thing.
