I don't know what people see in this series. I've played all 3 games to completion and with the exception of Xenoblade 1 it's just action shonen moments for 90% with the other 10% being what Takahashi actually wants to write. It's like Nintendo lobotomized him. The gameplay is complete dogshit too, it's what I like to call "do nothing for awesome." Most passive boring bullshit I've ever played. I've never felt like my input mattered less than an AI's in a game, and it doesn't help that every enemy is defeated the exact same way with the same exact art combos. It's actually the perfect JRPG for the Wii because you don't have to think about changing anything at all for the entirety of its gameplay. Xenosaga and Xenogears lowdiff this series. Xenogears is nothing more than mashing deathblows, but at least it's possible to lose is battle f you don't adjust for some enemies' attack patterns.

Only Xenoblade 1 was good. The first game had an incredibly interesting setting, excellent cutscene choreography, good voice acting, above average writing, and (mostly) good pacing.2 and 3 basically failed in every area where 1 succeeded, especially the setting which was not even remotely as interesting in either game. The only reason the series is still popular is because it went full anime.X was a fucking mess but had its moments. Overall, as someone who isn't an anime gooner I'm incredibly disappointed with the direction that the series took. I've replayed 1 probably ten times over the years but never touched 2 or 3 after barely getting through them the first time.
