The meta would just shift to these more compact high value decks and even more handtraps than they already run. If one gets banned you just move on to one of the other 20 options. Not to mention the japan side barely bans anything and cards are designed for them first so there would be a steady stream of new cards powercreeping the ones we just banned. Some people want rotation, but aside from being a huge PR nightmare it would only help somewhat by taking out old staples like Ash. The majority of powerful decks doing unfair bullshit are the newest ones anyway. Genesys was a decent attempt since it basically cut out a cancerous tumor called Link summoning and uses a point system rather than a banlist to help balance. It does well making modern yugioh more fair, but it's still just as fast and combo oriented, just less obnoxious.Myself, I just think the game needs a soft reboot. It's own equivlant to magic's modern format. Change the frames a little bit, say "everything in this new frame is legal in this format, everything without it isn't. You can use both in advanced format." Print both card frame simultaneously for awhile, making sure to keep the new frame cards on a very low powerlevel and let the format's popularity grow. Then once it's more played than the regular game, phase out the old frames and pivot to the new ones exclusively.

I understand that if you're a Zexal or Vrains stan or something (I'm sorry for your loss) the idea of "another Duel Monsters game" may be irritating becuase those shows had fuck all for videogames and that's fair. It so happens that the big Konami videogame drought happened when your shows were airing. To me, it's a bit weird that what's undeniably the most recognizable face of the franchise is so behind in terms of the good games that you can play about it, moreso taking modern conventions and expectations into account.I like the original show and I'm not any more fulfilled as a fan because the characters are on Duel Links or there's a new broken DM monster or because Toons are broken on the modern slop game, I don't give a rat's ass about that, when it comes to a videogame about the show there's been fuck all forever too.
