can we talk about SimCity games?
>>
>>750127296
Sure. What's the deal with SimCity 4 and NAM anyway? Is traffic really that fucked in vanilla?
>>
>>750127296
had the big box for simcity3000 god damn I'm old as dirt
>>
>>750127516
at least you had a chance to buy GOOD games, unlike nowadays
>>
I've only ever made one successful city on sim city, and it was an archipelago. I am not a city planner. What is wrong with me? How do I make a successful city?
>>
>>750128847
you simply make one, it sucks, you learn and make another and so on
>>
>>750127296
I played Sim city SNES and then 2000, I don't think these games are for me, unfortunately. But I'll give you a bumperoni
>>
>>750127296
loved sim city 3k/3k unlimited.
played both.
the osts were awesome.
I kind of wish we had arcologies beyond 2k.
>>
>>750129289
I don't think the snes one was even a real sim city game
>>
>>750129608
Was it not just a nintendified port of the original SimCity?
>>
>>750129291
The arcos blew my mind when I first found out about them. They were ridiculously cool and had so much detail, like the bigass TV screen and the waste tunnels on the side of the first arco.

Seeing the launch arco actually launch was even more mind blowing.

Don't get me started on seeing the Exodus sequence for the first time.
>>
>>750127296
I love Simcity 4

>get sim city 1 from a friend as a gift
>never works on my PC
>read the back of the case and the instruction manual sometimes, wishing i could play it
>sim city 3000 unlimited is in a scholastic book order
>demand it from my parents
>manual is colossal, absurd amounts of information
>read it like a bible the whole day at school the day we get our orders
>install the game and start playing
>i'm really bad at planning and money management and all that shit just like I was playing bullfrog's theme park and RCT
>even worse in sim city with all the stuff you have to manage
>mostly watch existing cities and shoot disasters at them

eventually the game to teach me to be less of a spaz was zoo tycoon and then i went back and played countless sim games i'd tried and sucked at
good times. playing Foundation right now

focus on getting income first and then work on improving the lives of your people, separate pollution/noise/etc. from where people live (usually by sticking a stretch of commercial properties between the industrial and residential), don't be afraid to bulldoze shit to improve traffic or move services
>>
>>750130352
when i play cities skylines i listen to the SC4 OST
>>
>>750130397
I remember the SC4 tutorial making you cut funding for a school that's too big for the budding city you have too
>>
>>750130486
well a proper player wouldn't even place the school until it was needed or would use it's capacity.
it's good to know that you can somewhat undo an overreach by lowering funding but it's better to not overreach
>>
>>750130248
I would have too. I get they wanted as many people as possible to move onto the SNES at the time, but with how huge of an install base the NES already had, they must have left a shitload of money on the table.
The cost of actually producing and shipping the carts must not have made sense, but I think if they did put it out, it would have been well received.
>>
New SimCity game when?
>>
>>750131658
didn't the last one come out in like 2006? i think EA is just done with that shit, not like maxis exists anymore
>>
>>750131996
2013 akchually and it kind of had its issues but it was okay
>>
>>750132562
>always online
>forced multiplayer
>laughably small town sizes
>the entire population system was fake
>the system also caused the game to break because how it handled things like education requirements and traffic/housing
"had issues"
>>
>>750127296
yes
did you niGGas see the 360 camera mod for SC4? it's some magical shit

any game better than simcity 4?
>>
>>750130573
There's one where the game intentionally puts a large school that's just overkill. It tells you to bulldoze it as it just eats away your funds
>>
>>750129291
Someone should make a mod for them in SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4.
>>
>>750127432
Yes.
>>
>>750127296
We need a SimCity 4 decomp asap, TS2 and TS3 are getting cool rewrites, SC4 could be the ultimate city builder if it became open source.
>>
>>750138739
>TS2 and TS3 are getting cool rewrites
Wait, really? For Sims 3, that makes me wonder if it's possible to make it run better. Even on the best PC, that game was so poorly programmed that it takes forever to load and has tons of lag.
>>
>>750127432
I hate how NAM clusterfucks your menu by adding 10,000 "RAILROAD_HIGHWAY_PEDESTRIAN_BRIDGE_INTERSECTION_VARIANT_1a" items to the game and it's totally unclear if you should use vanilla highways or their customer super-highways.

Still completely necessary to play the game past the first 30 minutes, though.
>>
i bought this on steam but supposedly they removed some of the music and i cannot refund it. I have the original discs but never tried to see if they work on modern systems.
>>
>>750138739
>, TS2 and TS3 are getting cool rewrites,
Oh where at?
>>
>>750139012
Check out OpenTS3, it's basically vibecoded but the progress is remarkable, it's basically playable which is already a massive achievement.
>>
>>750134013
okay it was shit I admit
>>
>>750134013
all true
but Megatowers from the future DLC were neat, despite being constrained to tiny ass maps. only really played it through Game Pass out of morbid curiosity. Wish City Skylines or other city builders did Megatowers like that.
>>
>>750137175
That’s pretty neato
>>
>>750138739
I'd want an SC3k decomp just to make parades skippable, allow utilities to be auto-rebuilt when they expire, and fix the "wave of retirement" killing cities

It's a sensitive topic for me. SC3000 and SC4 were goated but after years of neglect, followed by the disastrous Simcity 2013, followed by more years of neglect, I have nothing but hatred for Maxis and EA.
